  1. Herman Cain, it was nice knowing you. I have a feeling this is just the first of several crazy comments we're going to be treated to soon: For the record - it doesn't matter if you're Muslim or believe that Muslims are all terrorists or whatever. The fact is that you cannot ban mosques, period. It is a basic tenet of our constitution.
  2. Here's a couple of pics of the field from the 2010 Fan Day so you know what I mean by "bit of a mess" :
  3. I'm going to merge this with the other thread in a second, but here's the answer to your questions... You should arrive at least an hour, if not two hours, before it starts. I know that may sound excessive, but the line to enter was at least three blocks long last year. It may be shorter this year due to it being on a weekday, but I'm betting it's not a lot shorter. I would not plan on getting to everyone. Again, that will be based on the attendance, but I doubt seriously you'll get all the players, or even most of them. Most lines are 100 people deep, and the QB line is 150-200 people deep. Same goes for the RBs. There are just a LOT of people, and a lot of players, and not much time. Last year they had folks enter the stadium at two points, both on the south side, through the walkways that lead to the SW and SE corners of the field. There should be signs that tell you which gate will get you to which position group, like one gate takes you to the defense first and the other takes you to the offense first. Honestly, it's a bit of a mess on the field.
  4. It. Is. Too. Hot.

No joke, 110 heat index today? I'm ready for fall.

It was 137 degrees on my patio next to my grill last night. I demand lower temps. Now.

  5. And that we weren't given the ball. And remember that EMart was suspended for that game in what is still the only player suspension for an on-field hit in the history of the Big XII. I thought he was suspended for the hit during the Okie Lite game? Yep. EMart's "dirty" hit came during the Oklahoma State game. The Big XII suspended him for the next game, which was Missouri.
  6. Potentially a big deal, if it's possible those drugs came from Oklahoma. If not, it's just another case of a kid using drugs.
  7. Clemson is more like an SEC school than 5 or 6 of the schools in the SEC...plus they need an East representative and a West rep. Hey, KC. I was wondering where you'd got to. Good offseason? I think Clemson makes a VERY strong case for SEC membership over Oklahoma. Not sure what the Sooners would do with themselves if Texas left them.
  8. I have zero like for Shaq, but I really hope none of this is true. Horrible is the word that comes to mind. At first glance I would say "consider the source." This guy doesn't appear to be very trustworthy.
  9. I have always supported my conference mates, both in their OOC and bowl games. Their success reflects well on my school.
  10. This article helps explain why ESPN has it in for the Big Ten: ESPN's 'lowball' offer triggered Big Ten expansion
  11. My hope is that Feldman comes completely clean about the inner workings of ESPN. There are shenanigans on top of shenanigans going on in Bristol. I had long resisted, but lately it has become more than obvious that the ESPN coverage of the scandal at Ohio State is much, much greater than their coverage of any other college football scandal. Why would that be? Because the Big Ten Network is a very direct threat to ESPN and their partnership with the SEC. ESPN is not acting in good faith, all the while pretending to hide behind the cloak of 'journalism."
  12. I think I'm the guy who mentioned "ye olden days" so to be clear, I wasn't advocating that that was the offense we should run. We could run it, but then we could run any offense, and be successful. I think pretty much all of us are saying we can be successful running any kind of offense, if we just execute. To borrow Bo's favorite word.
  13. If I had to make a guess, I'd guess: Heard - least likely to have an impact this year only because he sat out a year. Taking a year off could be detrimental. Green - Played very well in a very tough high school division. Solid chops, and solid potential. Abdullah - Again played well in a very tough high school division. Probably equal chance of impact with Green. That's a really flimsy answer, but there's not much else to go on. EDIT - forgot to mention that I think at least one of these guys will Redshirt this year. There's not much reason to have all three play when we have Rex, any two of these guys, and Curenski Gilleylen and Ty Kildow, both of whom performed OK in the Spring Game.
  14. I'm not doing your legwork! However, I would agree that "traditional" quarterbacks are most likely more prevalent than running QBs in High School. It is common in most football settings to think of a QB as a player who calls the signals and passes the ball, NOT runs the ball. Places like Nebraska are the exception, not the rule.
  15. This is pretty much a coin flip, isn't it? We have no idea how any of them will do, or if all three will even play.
  16. Every scholarship player participates in Fall Camp. Since this is a thread about Bubba, who would be on scholarship, the answer to your question as it pertains to this topic is, "Yes."
  17. The college football world is abuzz with a report that Yahoo! sports writer Charles Robinson has not one, but two stories coming out this summer dealing with college football scandals. He was on Waddle & Silvy from an ESPN radio affiliate in Chicago, when he dropped the news: I've cruised through a few message boards and folks seem to think the "ten" target is Auburn. I sure wouldn't shed a tear to see them lose their championship from last year, nor would I lose any sleep over Cam Newton losing his Heisman.
  18. This is 100% not true. The only reason I've ever heard of any guy not taking part in Fall Camp was injury. Every player on the roster takes full part in camp whether they are a fifth-year senior or newly-signed Freshman. The roster for fall camp is limited (to 105 IIRC) until the fall semester of school starts and then everyone can participate. I believe that the Freshman walk-ons have to wait until school starts, but not the scholarship frosh. Which is why I said newly-signed.

  20. This is true, but one of the sides will win the White House. Silly as it is, we have to pay attention. When we stop paying attention we may as well open the doors to the Barbarians, because we're done as a nation.
  21. This "it's too cold to pass" idea has been around for a LONG time in Nebraska, but it's just not true. Michigan thinks we live in the balmy south and they've had pro-style QBs with great WR talent for years and years and years. You can recruit those kinds of players here, we just chose not to for 30 years because we wanted to run a unique offense. __________________________________ Part of the genius of Osborne is that he stuck with the Option when he realized it would open a recruiting avenue to players that most other schools weren't going after. That allowed us to attract the top QBs and RBs from option-style high school offenses. Cornering the market on a specific kind of talent is a wise move. I maintain that Osborne's offense as it existed in the 90s would not only succeed but could dominate right now, just like it did then. But you'd have to have the coaches to teach it and frankly, we don't. The guys we have now coach their kind of offense - whatever that is - and that's what we want them to do. Watson failed miserably when Bo asked him to coach an offense with which he was not familiar. That's the square peg/round hole problem that we've had these few years past.
  22. That makes me wonder how much of the Martinez dislike simply comes from the fact that he's not a pro-style QB, which makes me wonder how many people over the age of, say, 30 have these same concerns. It would seem that those of us old enough to vividly remember the 80s and 90s are more likely to be unconcerned with such things, having seen a number of run-first QBs succeed. The funny thing is, the same biases against run-first quarterbacks that were being exhibited by the pundits in the 90s exist today, and just like the 90s, they are completely misplaced in college football. Run-first QBs can succeed today, just like they could then. The most successful class in college football history, the Huskers who went 60-3 in their five-year careers, came from a run-first offensive philosophy. And they did it in an era where it was "impossible" to succeed doing it that way.
