  1. Do these gloves cost more than our other gloves?
  2. Even operating under the assumption that KSU was a rival, I don't feel like Cody has betrayed what it means to be a Husker by going there. Maybe it's because I was 28 years old before they beat us in my lifetime, and maybe it's because we've beaten them in our last six straight games, but frankly, I don't care enough about KSU to get all riled up about Cody going there. This is a team we not only beat, but DEMOLISHED 30 of the last 40 years (and we only "beat" them another five times in that span). Let him go there. Maybe he can do them some good.
  3. Think about how little sense that makes. You do realize the people in Nebraska own televisions, radios and have access to the Internet, right? I've lived in Nebraska most of my life, yet I'm a Bears, Bulls & Cubs fan. That's three teams besides Nebraska that I cheer for. Besides, we have 1.8 million people in this whole state. Even if you divide the population of Oklahoma in half with OU and OSU, that's still equal to our population. I just don't see what this "one team" stuff has to do with anything. I think there's something to the idea that Nebraska fans are more fanatical about Husker football because there isn't another team/sport around for them to naturally grow up with. Growing up in Nebraska, I only became fans of other teams with certain players that I liked watching (e.g. Michael Jordan and the Bulls), and when those players retired, I no longer cared for those teams. Nebraska is the only program that I am truly a fan of, even though I still watch plenty of other teams for fun. Thank you Herc for not having the blinders on and seeing the point. OK, you're right. The ONLY reason we're winning this battle is because there are no other sports teams inside the borders of Nebraska. Ignore the fact that most of the votes for Nebraska in this thing came outside of our borders. That means nothing. It's ONLY because we have no other teams. My apologies for having "the blinders" on.
  4. Well, I try. I do miss a few nice opp-y's though. (edit) like this one! Diss on you, Taylor! Hear that? Diss diss diss. lol! Hey, I never missed many regarding Z. Lee awhile back either. Just like always.....we're just getting our hooks and jabs in. Two months to go, old friend......just "two"......we......can.......hack it! GBR!! And then there's just silly old me, forgetting to pick sides and just rooting for anyone wearing an N on their helmets. Crazy, I know.

Yes. obviously it went over your head. How many of those teams that you listed as a fan are a college football team? Great example there. And as for Oklahoma, They don't only root for OU and OSU. Some also root for UT (I live here and hear about it all the time). So for Oklahoma fans, they have to split it three ways and if OU is up, the other two will vote for the opposite team just so OU won't get it (unless it is us and you know UT will vote OU). I don't know how many times when NU was playing the other, their fans were telling me that they hope our team would win so they could rub it in their faces. I think what you're missing here is that - and you may want to sit down as this could be a shock - people living in Nebraska may not all root for the Huskers. Some root for Michigan (like the guy driving the car with MGOBLUE license plates in my garage) and Oregon (like the guy wearing the Ducks hat in line at the coffee shop this AM) or Oklahoma (like the have a zillion people wearing OU hats I see around here). So again, the "one team" thing has no merit. We have TV. We have radio. We have the internet. We can follow any team we want, and many do.
  6. That does look very nice. We did something along the same lines a couple of years ago. I'm not sure what your soil is like, but here it's thick clay, and the hardest part of the whole job was cutting that clay and making it level. That probably took 2/3 of my time.
  7. You're welcome, zoogies. Your statement was quite dismissive of something positive about Taylor. Sure, you end it with an attempt to soften the blow, but once again it's clear where your intentions lie.
  8. It's a hell of a lot more solid "proof" than any of the BS rumors we've heard around here about the various nefarious things Martinez is supposedly saying/doing/behaving. Perpetuated, by the way, by you, among others. So you are fully willing to give credence to, and repeatedly repost negative rumors, but when a player tweets something that may be positive about another player you do not like, you very easily and quickly dismiss it. I think this thread says far more about you than it says about either Martinez or Green.

  10. Agree about 300 vs. GoF. It's doubtful GoF ever gets made as a movie at this point, and that's a tragedy. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I've exchanged many emails with Pressfield about his ancient Greek work and writing in general. He's a very approachable guy. I've never met him in person, but if I'm ever in the neighborhood when he's speaking, I'll definitely be there. He's been doing a tour of army bases the past month or so in support of The Profession, his latest work. Sadly, everything has been on the coasts - where the military bases are. I also agree about McCullough's writing when it comes to battles. Being a woman, she's far more interested in character development than in military strategy, so when there was this big chapters-long buildup to Gaius Marius taking his legions up to Gaul for the first battle of the series - and then the whole battle was described in about four paragraphs. She writes voluminously and in tremendous detail about a tremendous amount of characters, so it's hard to keep track sometimes, but taken as a whole, the series is very satisfying. I've never read A Clockwork Orange, or watched the movie. I probably need to get that done soon.
  11. I don't think JFK commented on the subject. I'm betting he did. The fact he had a gay friend doesn't mean JFK commented (publicly, which is implied but I'll state it directly this time) on homosexuality. Do you really think having a gay best friend would make you less likely to wonder about the cause? Even publicly? I don't even know any gay people very personally and I do..(Care enoigh about the subject to comment about my theories on chromosome link versus influence of the parent(s)). Being a public figure would probably tend to make me less likely to share any actual beliefs, but I seriously doubt JFK was always that polished. Read the linked posts. We're not talking about whether JFK wondered about homosexuality. We're talking about whether he commented on it. Now, if you're going to assert that JFK made a public statement about homosexuality, I'm going to ask you to show me where he did that. Because in the early 1960s, homosexuality wasn't something the president commented on publicly. That social stigma had yet to be broken.
  12. Wow. Could not disagree with you more. You're talking about one of the most physically gifted and aggressive DTs of all time. Not just recently, not just at Nebraska, but for any team, anywhere, ever. And you're saying that not just one, but two of our current players are "just as special?" Crick has had some pretty good games in his tenure. But where are you getting the impression that Steinkuhler is even remotely as good as Suh? Which game(s) can you point to where Steinkuhler has had a significant impact? I can point to several where he's had little to no impact at all. I've talked a lot of football in my day. More than is probably good for me. I've heard some bold predictions. But this.... this is madness.
  13. There are going to be dozens of these articles written over the next year or two. Every sports writer, radio show guy and TV sportscaster in the Big XII footprint will have their own take on how much better off the conference is without Nebraska. They likely won't mention Colorado, nor will they mention the catalyst for the events of the past year (Texas' near departure with five of their Chosen Ones). Of course everyone is everyone's friend right now. What choice do they have? Like strigori said, the have-nots left in the Big XII are staring down the barrel of irrelevance if Texas decides to be done with them. It is in their best interest to kiss Texas' ass as much as possible. Without Texas, at this point, they're screwed. If you guys want to keep linking to these stories, fine, but all we're doing is giving them clicks for talking sh#t about us. Most likely we're going to start merging all of these stories into one great big thread of Derp as the season starts. It gets pretty repetitive after a while.
  14. I don't think JFK commented on the subject. I'm betting he did. The fact he had a gay friend doesn't mean JFK commented (publicly, which is implied but I'll state it directly this time) on homosexuality.
  15. Not sure what to make of Pierre. He exploded his Freshman year, taking over after Turner broke his leg. Allen should have been better and better, but he just never seemed to improve.
  16. I saw Jared Crick coming out of math class a couple days ago. He's as big as the doorway. Seems like a lot of football players take summer classes. I've always thought that must be awesome for the ones who graduate in the summer and then in their senior season they're free to just play football. Yeah, I think a lot of the athletes are here during the summer taking classes and training. I see tons of them as I swing around the stadium by the weight complex doors. Just yesterday on my walk I saw: Gina Mancuso, Lara Dykstra & Jordan Wilberger (VB players), two gymnasts whose names I don't know, Baker Steinkuhler and later KC Hyland and probably another WR whose name I didn't know, plus Harleen Sidhu and Jordan Hooper as they ran up to Lindsey Moore's car. You can't swing a stick without hitting two Huskers this summer.
  17. That's the thing about Crick's stats being comparable to Suh's in their Junior years. NOBODY thinks Crick is going to be another Suh this year. But hide the women and children if he's even close. I work myself up so much thinking about stuff like this. If B Stein improves even some, and Crick improves even some, and Camstache improves even some, and EMart is an upgrade over Allen... good God that's a scary D Line. That's 2009-esque, that's what that is. With David & Co. at LB and Dennard & Co. in the secondary, this has the potential to be a scary defense.
  18. I can't imagine that this is true. Children of professors or deans don't get automatic full rides to college, why would the children of coaches get that? I would imagine they get a fair chunk of their education paid, if not a full ride. My dad worked for a local college for many years and had I lived near enough to go to school there, I could have taken classes on a major discount - and he wasn't even an Admin or professor. Maybe they don't get full rides, but I'm sure family of UNL employees get their education FAR cheaper than us regular folk. But I'm sure the NCAA frowns on having star players on your team that aren't counted against your scholarships, which is why the Cotton boys all will be on scholly. It's an NCAA issue. They had better be talented enough to earn them, though. Bo's nephew is on the team, and he's a walk-on, I believe.
  19. To be fair to Steinkuhler, though - the dude was an underclassman this whole time. He's a Junior this year, and he could very well have a big leap in noticeable production. I say noticeable, because for armchair quarterbacks like us, we're apparently not seeing what the coaches are seeing (which is why nuance's source is saying Stein grades out well on film). I just want to see chaos and mayhem, dammit. That's what the Blackshirts are all about. EDIT - and I think I actually spoke to Baker the other day, now that I look at his bio and pic. I walk around the stadium at lunch every day and I see a lot of the players, but some I don't recognize. They all look the same with those helmets on, after all. I exchanged a couple of words in passing with a pretty large, shaggy dude, and it turns out that must have been B Stein. Saw Caputo on Monday or Tuesday this week, too. He's shorter than me, and he walks all bow-legged. Thick as a tree trunk, though.
  20. Let's just hope these gloves don't have shrinkage. It could get ugly if there's a rainstorm.
  21. My opinion - on this year's D Line, the spotlight shines harshest on Steinkuhler. We know what Crick brings, and if Steinkuhler can step up his game that could open Crick up to a monster year. But if Stein can't get it done, he's got to step aside.
  22. Quick Knapplc, delete his post so we didn't just spend all that time arguing about something that was quite literally nothing. And that would be different than the last four months.... how? While the rancor was regrettable, the conversation itself was welcome. There's just nothing else to talk about right now.
  23. I just finished these early this year. VERY good reads. I didn't think I'd like them much, but I got hooked. Do you have the Classics two-volume series from Barnes & Noble? That's where I got mine. You can't beat the price. I will definitely be reading this again, soon. @Carlfense - if you like history, specifically ancient history, I recommend Colleen McCullough's Rome series, starting with The First Man in Rome. It is an absolutely brilliant series. Her Julius Caesar is an incomparable character. I also highly recommend anything by Pressfield (who focuses on the ancient Greeks). Start with Gates of Fire and work your way through the Alexander series. Crazy-good stuff. I have insomnia, so I read a lot while I wait for the pills to kick in. Right now I'm re-reading some schlock I picked up as a kid, the Mordant's Need series by Donaldson. It's cheesy, and the first book is incredibly dull (and the characters are vapid), but it picks up in the second book, IIRC. I've read over 300 novels since I started this campaign in January, 2007. It's been a lot of fun.
  24. Yeah, McNeill got the shaft last year when we went with Martinez, who wasn't nearly as prolific a passer as Lee. With Lee at the helm I bet we pass a LOT more, and McNeill's numbers look tons better.
