  1. Thanks for taking the time to do this research. I've been saying this since day one - our cupboard is not bare. Say what you will about Callahan and Co. but they can recruit. We have a ton of talent on offense, and with a good scheme we have the potential for a decent-to-good defense. It's not going to be the end of the world next year.
  2. From the AP recap of the game: I completely agree with Coach Prince here. The whole concept of "running up the score" should be abolished in football. If you put on pads and cleats you should expect to stop the guy in front of you. If you can't, they score. That's how the game is played. I have no sympathy for anyone crying about their opponent scoring on them, whether it be NU against KSU or KU against NU.
  3. If you think calling someone "clueless" is a personal attack worthy of a warning, you should see what's been posted about me - by Freemason, among others - in my brief time here. I didn't see anyone coming to my defense then. I shall not call anyone clueless again, however. Point taken.
  4. Absolutely! I think his death if anything has dampened his legacy. Think about it – Berringer was the closest thing Nebraska had that resembled a true NFL QB in 20 years. I have no doubt whatsoever that he was going to be drafted, and he would have at least gotten a shot on the field. I believe he would have had at worst a decent NFL career. The kid could really play. Take away a 3-7 year career (or longer?) and all we have to go on is his body of work at NU. That’s certainly impressive, but with nearly two decades of offensive flops in the NFL before Brook, he would have been Nebraska’s “favorite Pro” if he had any measure of success.
  5. I was right on top of the QBs as they warmed up and I had excellent views of several scoring drives, and in my opinion it wasn't even close - Sam was far and away better than Joe in the Spring Game. I am frankly stunned that Joe is doing so well. Judging by how he did in the Spring, I wouldn't have predicted half the success he's had. Don't get me wrong - Joe was NOT awful in the Spring. It's just that Sam was clearly better.
  6. The problem with your KU analogy is that there are vastly different expectations between KU and Nebraska. Mangino had all the time in the world to make that sow's ear into a silk purse because they hadn't done anything in the past umpteen years. Another problem with your analogy is that KU is far more likely to be 6-6 next year than 10-0, based on their past history. Teams play over their heads every year. Clearly KU is doing that this year. You simply cannot expect that to happen year in and year out. That's a complete apples to oranges comparison, clone.
  7. If you're a Husker Fan, you would be included in that "WE." We're all in this together. WE may not all have liked all of those decisions, but WE all have to live with them, especially if WE are going to continue to wear that big red N on our shirts/hats/coats/etc.
  8. Agreed. So don't you think TO would have to make the decision that the majority would favor?
  9. I think his inability to coach FAR outweighs his potential. I guess my question to the people thinking he deserves more time would be, when is enough enough? He's had two "good" recruiting classes and two "OK" recruiting classes, so allegedly talent should not be the issue. He's had four years to acclimate himself to the college game/routine, so that should not be an issue. He's had ample time to evaluate his coaching staff and make any changes where there are deficiencies, so staff should not be an issue. But even with all that time and whatnot in his favor, his overall record is still barely above .500. He should have been much further along than he is now. He should be beyond correcting mistaken assumptions by now. He should be in a position of strength both from on-field play and recruiting. But he’s nowhere near those positions. So what will happen to make the future Bill Callahan do a better job than the present Bill Callahan? Why would one more year make any difference?
  10. Do you think the majority want Callahan to stay or to go?
  11. I would just about suspect that this happens. It's far easier to fail than succeed in college football. In a pressure-cooker like Nebraska, where the demands are so high, little things can get magnified and make the job that much more difficult. Any new coach could struggle just coping with the expectations that come along with this job. But all that being said, that still does not mean that Callahan should stay. He is not the right fit for this job, and the next guy's success or failure won't change that. The Callahan coaching staff needs to go, and whether we turn out better for it in a year or two does not change that fact.
  12. How you can make such an analysis of this guy based on less than a dozen posts on some Internet forum is beyond me. I appreciate the sentiment here (defending your team) but maybe you'd want to tone it down just a bit? Maybe?
  13. It's not as easy as you might think to just can everyone and waltz through the rest of the season. Plus there's some professional decorum to consider. Callahan may be the wrong fit for this program but he's not Attila the Hun, either. It would cause far more problems to fire him today than two weeks from today. Just be patient. This will all be over soon.
  14. I will always be a fan of Sam Keller. I appreciate what he did, and further what he tried to do, in his brief time here.
  15. Boy... talking about Joe's balls... I think it's coincidence. Joe throws some pretty good wobblers out there, so I don't think it's because he throws a "more catchable ball" as some announcers have said. I think it may just have more to do with confidence and familiarity. They know Joe longer, and they just may be the "X" factor that helps them catch the ball better.
  16. What?!?!? Why in the world would we take off our Husker gear? Now, when the chips are down, is the time to show our support. What a weird thing to say!
  17. Bear Bryant has caught up to TO! It's 37% to 43%. That is unacceptable! Come on, Husker Fans!! Get out the word!
  18. In the next two weeks we could either sit here and gnaw the bones of our collective frustration, or we can do our best to focus on the positives of being a Husker. Whether we are Pro-Callahan or Anti-Callahan, the vast majority of us are Husker Fans. This internal bickering is pointless. T.O. will do what he will do, and then we can all talk about it. For my part, I pledge to stop posting negative things about Bill Callahan. Like him or not, he's not the "enemy." He may or may not be a good fit for this program, but I fear that if we spend two weeks debating on his fitness for the job, we're going to delve even further into such levels of negativity that we could do great harm to our mutual love of this team. So here's my pledge: I hereby solemnly pledge to stop bashing Bill Callahan, Kevin Cosgrove, and/or any other current or former Husker Coaches through the end of the regular season of 2007. I further pledge to wait for whatever action the Athletic Department is going to take before jumping to wild conclusions regarding possible coaching changes, lack of changes, or any developments therein. Finally, I pledge to be respectful of my fellow Husker Fans, recognizing that on Game Saturdays they all wear the same Red that I wear, and that if we were all to meet for a beer (or soda, for the underaged) that our discussions would likely be friendly, not aggressive like they tend to be on the anonymous message board. 19. As usual, I will miss all of our Seniors. They just don't play here long enough, IMO. You develop an attachment for these guys, and not one of them is a bad person, or an awful player, or is a person I want to see leave. If I had to pick one guy I'd say it's Mo Purify. There are a lot of guys you could say this about, but I don't feel like Mo has gotten a fair shake at NU. A guy with all of his potential, and it just doesn’t seem like enough balls go his way. I would have loved to see him featured in game after game after game. I know all about the double-teaming and whatnot, but there are ways to scheme around that. I haven’t had my fill of watching him play yet.
  20. Thanks for posting that email, but at the end of the day there's just nothing concrete there. Nobody is accusing you of lying - it's just that there's nothing to go on there, you know? If he had the flight number, or a bona fide eyewitness who saw Bo Pelini on the plane and/or an official from NU talking to him... that would be something. There isn't even a smoking gun there. You'd have to imagine that there are NO other reasons from someone from red stick to fly here - like for actual business, or for... who knows what. It's a fun story, but in the end this could all be some practical joke your friend is playing on you.
  21. I heard Bill could stay if he learns the Texas Two-Step while dancing on the head of a pin.
