Nice blatantly biased scewer of Pelini by ESPN
hskrpwr13 replied to hskrpwr13's topic in Husker Football
Stafford basically said he was frustrated that the defensive allignments weren't getting communicated fast enough from the sideline. (I'm guessing Bo called out Stafford for being out of position on the final first half PSU TD, and Stafford fired back at him.) Bo even admitted after the game that Stafford was essentially correct in his assessment of the problem. I had no problem with the exchange and it actually seemed to light a fire under both of them and even the rest of the team. Other than to further a specific agenda, I can't under why the GD Crew would have a problem with the exchange after it was clearly explained. -
Nice blatantly biased scewer of Pelini by ESPN

Good. It wasn't just me. I fired off an email to ESPN. I'm sure it will produce nothing, but I feel better that I provided feedback (I had a lot more to say than their 500 character count limi). Another thing they indirectly insuated was that perhaps this should affect recruiting. I don't remember exactly what was said. -
(For those that saw the segment this morning on GameDay).. I know how a lot of us already feel about ESPN, but jeez, was that ridiculous or what? Basically implied that the Pelini/Stafford "incident" was due to Pelini saying something personal. And that saying something personal to a player is out of line. Brought up the NW game situation with Antonio Bell. How this could impact recruiting. How coaches should never lay a hand on a player. etc..etc... They started with a montage of many coaches yelling/acting a fool on the sideline (Spurrier, Tubberville, Chip Kelly, Pelini, others), then proceeded to only talk about Stafford/Pelini and then made a bunch of statements that one would infer they meant to be that their statements was what happened between Stafford/Pelini. Both clearly explained what was going on in post game remarks throughout the week. If I'm an NU official, I'm firing off I'll kinds of communications to ESPN for that hatchet job. The whole segment really ticked me off.

Watching the Michigan State game again
hskrpwr13 replied to The Red & White Knight's topic in Husker Football
I haven't had a chance to watch the replay. One of the calls I thought was dubious, but didn't impact the outcome so maybe thats why I haven't heard much about it, was the reviewed Martinez fumble that the Huskers ultimately recovered. Wasn't Martinez's knee down prior to the fumble? It sure looked like it on the average tv I watched the live game. If I'm wrong, then okay. But if everyone else saw his knee was down, how does it not get over-turned (refs should've moved the ball back to that spot)? Had MSU recovered, it probably seals NU's fate, and I'm feeling like we got jobbed. -
See, the bold verbiage is what I'm starting to question. I wonder if the team actually has championship talent, or if these "mental breakdowns" are the result of players being put in positions that they're not talented/physically gifted enough to handle. I always think of Martinez in this context. Is he a actually a talented QB, or is he a physically gifted defensive back that is playing QB? (Thus, his mental mistakes are the result of his talents being miscast.) I just have a hard time believing that the coaches are just "allowing" the mental mistakes to continue. I gotta think there's more to it than our coaches "not coaching".

He made the play as he should have. Ya, he took a shot, and it resulted in a 3-yard game. I was more impressed with PJ's stop, than Bell's hit.

100% agree. I guess the B1G isnt used to the forward pass. I don't remember complaining this much about PI in the Big12.

Really what do fans want? Sound, disciplined football played consistently. In theory, assuming top25 talent, this would keep NU from losing to teams they shouldn't, and keep them in games against equal-to-better competition. I think we consistenly don't play this type of football mostly at QB and all Defense positions.

I'll throw a few names out... Chris Petersen? (Did not know about his kid's health situation) Dave Doeren? (Lots of regional ties - KC, Wisconsin, Drake - he's a midwesterner) Dana Holgorsen? Gary Patterson? Pete Carrol? Okay not happening. But if we want to keep up with the Ohio States and Alabamas, that would be one hire that would put us on pace to do it quickly. If we're just gonna throw out names, I'd be really intriqued with Paul Rhodes.

4 turnovers, countless penalties, really? Not saying there aren't limitations with Taylor at the helm. Its basically a two steps forward, one step back situation with him. I'll repeat: 38 points should be enough to win every game.
-
Not saying there aren't some valid points here, but all things considered, 38 points should be enough to win every game. This side of the ball is really not the source of this team's problems.

Bo Pelini=Kevin Cosgrove? Okay, thats probably over the top. But against "good" teams, it's what Pelini's defenses are starting to resemble. I'm starting to become concerned about the direction of the program. Our D-minded coach is cranking out bad and worse defenses two seasons running. Somethings not right in Camelot.
-
Even if Tom and Bo were told they'd have a certain level of participation/opinion with the AD hire, should they be THAT bent (so much so, that Sipple thought it was news worthy) if the role they thought they'd have was lessened? I don't pretend to know the politics within the Dept, but this potential reacion seems a bit over-the-top to me.

Possible candidates for Osborne successor?
hskrpwr13 replied to craigsker's topic in Rumorville: Hirings / Firings / What Ifs
Thats probably why hes no longer at 1620 the zone. He did state on his twitter yesterday that he chose to step away. I think it was like he had to make a hard decision and do what was best for him with some opportunities. I like how your comment is so deadpanned. -
to be fair, wasn't TO instrumental in getting steve here? You tell me. I don't recall that (however, theres a lot i cant recall these days).
-
Couldn't have asked for more from Osborne. These last 5 years have flown by. I am disappointed that there wasn't already a succession plan in place. I'm not 100% comfortable with Perlman making a "national search". This is not a hire he can fail for a second time.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/8427343/sources-nebraska-cornhuskers-ad-tom-osborne-going-retire Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne will announce his retirement during a news conference Wednesday afternoon in Lincoln, two sources told ESPN.com. Although it's unclear when Osborne will step down, he is not expected to retire immediately, one of the sources said..........

Thats more along my thought process. Unless something happened health-wise, dont know why this would be immediate. It might even be where he announces the succession plan, and perhaps stays on another couple of seasons (?).
-
Thats really what I was looking for today. Glad they did what they should've done to a team of ISU's calibur.
