  1. And let's change the helmet too. Maybe we can change to the N to a K. Then when people ask what it stands for, you can say "Knowledge".
  2. How does the Dallas Morning News reporting this with 2 unnamed sources make this "official"? There has been no annoucement from the school. The article even says the AD won't decide until the end of the season. I know it probably will happen, but I hate seeing posters cite newspaper rumors as "official".
  3. Agreed, and they'll be a much stronger second, or even first in the computers, if they beat highly ranked Missouri and Oklahoma, while Oregon has a much easier finish. The computers absolutely aren't and won't keep KU out.
  4. But there can be a "who will you root for, KU or Mizzou?" thread on the football board? Bullsh*&! Hey, listen bud. There's nothing wrong with getting a thread moved to the right forum. As moderators and admins we don't hawk the board all day so some can and will slip through the cracks. After all, this board is free. There's still a link in the Husker football forum, so people can find your thread via that. fwiw, shouldn't this be in the Big 12 forum, not the NCAA non-Big-12 forum? But I'm not going to complain much about admin of a free board. But while I am, do we really still need the sticky about setting DST taking up space at the top of Husker forum?
  5. 2-3 years ago the computer guys were specifically told they could not consider margin of victory. This is why you see two ratings from Sagarin. One ("Predictor") is his system that does use MOV. The other ("ELO-Chess") does not use MOV, and that is the one he provides to the BCS.
  6. TO also supposedly started to have his doubts about Solich being the next HC. I've never heard this. What is your source? All I remember about it is that Osborne said he wished he'd have had a chance to get the 3 of them (Solich, Pederson, Osborne) in a room to talk about it, and he felt they could iron things out. I can't remember the exact quote. My impression at the time is that what he meant was that he could pressure Pederson to give Solich another chance. I considered using the word "convince" instead of "pressure", but at the time I felt that Osborne seemed miffed that things didn't go his way for his protege and I really couldn't come up with another reason for Osborne to get involved other than to change the outcome. I felt Osborne was butting in where he didn't belong. With more information now, I think Osborne knew there were bad communications problems with Pederson, and he felt they needed to be in a room long enough to talk things through (rather than passing notes under Solich's door), before Pederson should make his decision. Back to the original question raised, I will complain at first because I think we're at a low and I don't think Callahan can get us out of it; then I will wait and see what happens next year, and pretty much trust that Osborne had good reasons for keeping Callahan. But if things stayed down next year, I'd definitely be questioning that decision. Already this year I passed on opportunities to see 2 road games, though those were mainly due to spending more time with my daughter in her last year of high school than it was due to the state of Nebraska football. How hard I push to see Husker games in the future would be influenced by whether we continue having years like this one. I think it's a moot point anyway. Change is coming.
  7. The Big 12 does NOT have a contract with the humanitarian bowl in Boise anymore. NU will not be playing there.
  8. I chatted for a minute or two with his mom and a couple other family members after the A&M game last year. Really nothing more than congratulating them since Cody had 2 TDs and it was a really exciting victory, and then Cody came over but I didn't want to interrupt his time to celebrate with his family. As they were taking a group picture I said "Everyone say TD TD!" and they all had a good laugh at that. Very nice people. Anyway I wish things were working out better for him this year. I hope he's healthy for his senior year and gets some time. Castille is very good and a similar type, but I'm not sure who's better when Cody is healthy.
  9. That's incorrect. I've posted this before. I looked and couldn't find a new rule this year. What I did find is a rule from last year that said a 6-6 team could not get a bowl your conference has a contract with instead of a team in your conference with a winning record. If your conference has enough spots, you get one. And for at large games, such as those spots without a conference tie-in or free because a conference could not fill all of their spots, a 6-6 team cannot take it while there are uninvited teams from anywhere without a bowl. This is a tougher one to get. A 7-5 Mountain West team is not going to keep a 6-6 Nebraska out of a Big 12 bowl, because of the first rule. http://www2.ncaa.org/portal/media_and_even..._6and6rule.html If you've found a more current rule, post a link to it. I don't believe it exists. If it does, the NCAA forgot to post any kind of press release on their site like they did the one I refer to. What does this mean for Nebraska? If the Big 12 gets a 2nd BCS game (almost a lock) OR KSU OR OSU lose their final two games, the NU-CU winner is guaranteed a bowl due to Big 12 bowl contracts. If none of those things happen, we're in contention with whoever else in the Big 12 finishes 6-6. One of them will be left out.
  10. Tom Osborne, aka he-who-shall-not-be-named to Callahan, which would explain why you haven't heard this until a few weeks ago.
  11. And to answer the question, I guess I'm rooting for Kansas and the unbeaten Big 12 team to survive.
  12. Looking at the BCS numbers, Oregon's remaining schedule is crap. If KU win's out, they would have a W over 2 top 5 teams in the BCS. That would hurdle them over Oregon into the NC game. Same could be said for Missouri if they were to run the table, I think they could jump up to 2 on those 2 games. If OU wins the big 12, I think they even jump Oregon based on a win versus a top 5 BCS team, most importantly coming at the end of the season when everyone is watching. Kansas gets in if they go unbeaten. They will certainly pick up points in the polls since at a minimum they'll take OU's #3 spot. They should also close the gap on Oregon if not pass them in the polls because these games will prove they are real (remember the assumption is they win both), in big TV games. They're already ahead of Oregon in the computers but will increase the spread over Oregon based on each team's remaining schedule. Remember both computers and polls factor the point rating, not placement, so even if they stay 2 and 3, being a stronger #2 in the polls gives them more BCS points. Not as certain whether OU or Missouri would have enough to pass Oregon. Oklahoma would only have one more huge win. TTech and OSU wins won't hurt or help them all that much. Missouri would get two big wins so that have a lot to gain, but has more ground to pick up. The early win over Illinois is looking better for them, and beating OU in a rematch means they've beaten all opponents, fwiw.
  13. Getting rid of Cosgrove won't solve all of our problems on defense. Callahan's recruiting focus is on offense. He figures the defense can be shored up with JC transfers, which I think has been a pretty big reason why we don't see a lot of spirit on the D. And then he doesn't hesitate to raid the defense for offensive players (e.g., Major Culbert). That's another reason Callahan should not be the head coach.
  14. He's not a good head coach. The team has not been behind him for most of the year. He lost his team in Oakland. The proof is there. You just have to see it. You like his offense, demote him to offensive coordinator. That's the only scenario I could possibly stomach, and I question that. I'm sure he wouldn't accept it anyway.
  15. Remember when we used to pretty much expect 70 in a game or two many seasons, rather than be shocked by it? Jason Peter is now repeating stats on 1480 (I missed the first time he gave them) showing how many yards came in garbage time in most of these games. The majority of the yards vs USC, Missouri, and Okie State came on the last 4 drives, when the games were over and we were going against their subs.
  16. there was a little more right after the bold part of the statement, which tells me at least, that he knows he's gone... basically, saying that with a new coach and offense change there will be a lower chance of repeating last weekend... my 2c That's how I read it too. More importantly, I don't think that record of giving up 76 will be broken for a long time either, as long as Callahan and Cosgrove are out of here.
  17. Isn't Callahan the one who talked about a loss being "just one game"??? But if it's a good game, that's solid gold proof of your system, right Bill? How about this, Bill? - Ganz was really sharp - The receivers really went after the balls well and hung onto them. - The O-line gave Ganz lots of time on most plays - The running game was working too, so KSU had to try to defend that as well - KSU really played poorly - and oh yeah, your system seemed to work for once
  18. Well, Keller knew about the last punt return, or more likely someone clued him in before they did the sideline interview with him. But at least he sounded convincing and interested in Husker history. I figured Sam was going to be the biggest just-get-me-to-the-NFL player on the team, but either he's a really good actor or a great team player. I hope he does get his shot at the NFL. Whatever you want to say about him playing ahead of Ganz, that wasn't his fault, and he gave his very best effort. Personally I think Ganz caught lightning in a bottle today, and Keller was due to have a day like that until he got hurt, but I'll be happy if I'm wrong and Ganz is for real.
  19. I'm not certain how this applies. I know we can't go to a bowl and leave a 7-5 conference team at home. And we can't go to a bowl outside of our conference tie-ins if there is another team in D1A with 7 wins. But I'm not sure that bowls have to pass on us if a 7 win team is assured of being in another bowl through our conference tie-ins. I'd try to find the full rule, but I'm kinda busy oogling cows on the internet right now...
  20. ...or a Buffs fan. And NO, the two are not the same thing Good point, but the question doesn't specifically name Nebraska. "you" should apply to your team to you. Did you vote "no", that you don't want CU to go to a bowl??? I'll stop picking on you soon. It's all in good fun. You seem like a decent enough person. Actually, for a CU fan, you're probably about as good as it gets! OK, so maybe I'm not done picking on you yet.
  21. Can we have another subthread titled "Rumors which have absolutely no basis or merit"?
  22. Nobody likes to see a game determined by a ref.
  23. Actually, the box score is wrong. The game was a tie, the refs just waved off overtime for... you know, no reason whatsoever. And NO, I'm not going to let this one go. My Buffs got absolutely SCREWED out of bowl eligibility today, and I am PISSED. OK, but you don't mind if we bring up the 5th down again then, do you? I didn't see it, but it sounds screwy. It will be interesting to see what the conference officials have to say about it.
  24. Beat CU and we are in a bowl, probably guaranteed. The Big 12 has 8 spots for sure. We'll almost certainly get a 2nd BCS bowl, which makes 9. Keep in mind that you have to be in the top 14 (Hawaii or Boise needs to be in the top 16) and there are 10 teams in BCS bowls. We are hogging 4 of those 14 spots so unless there are upsets among those 4, 2 of them almost have to be in. The North has 3 teams eligible for sure: MU, KU,and the CU/NU winner KSU could be #4 but needs to beat MU or Fresno State for their 6th win. The South has 4 teams eligile so far: OU, UT, TT, A&M. A&M has 6 wins and Texas left to play. Okie State has 5 wins and is in with a win over Baylor (or KU or OU). Iowa State, Baylor, and the CU/NU loser are out for sure. That's 9 at most, so if the Big 12 gets two BCS bowls, or if KSU or OSU lose out, the CU/NU winner is guaranteed a spot. And if 9 are qualified for only 8 spots, we're up against other 6-6 teams. While it's possible we'll be the only 6-6 (which leaves us out), it's more likely that some or all of A&M, KSU, and OSU are 6-6 with us. We'll be the only one of those on a 2 game winning streak. I like our chances over those, though we wouldn't deserve it over OSU. Gotta gotta gotta take care of CU though.
