  1. Come on girls! Youve got ALL of Husker nation behind you, especially us West-coasters!
  2. Sweet. I'm assuming Huskers are up...?
  3. For those of us watching this match via Smartphone updates from this board, can you all provide sone score updates? ;-) Pretty please?
  4. Sitting here in southern CA, where it's 75 and sunny... Eating ice cream, and being blown away by the insanity of this board today. Wow... Haha. It is fun, though. ;-)
  5. In my opinion (from a Southern California native; aka "outsider"), the 'classiest' label has morphed from just the fans in the stadium to Nebraska's worldwide following. Here is an example... a couple of years ago I was standing in line at a Starbucks in Huntington Beach, CA, and an Oklahoma fan came in... we were both dressed in our gear and soon the OU fan and I were having a great discussion... much respect on both sides, "You guys look great this year", "So do you", "Go Big Red", "Boomer Sooner"... it was great and ended on a peaceful and respectful note. 'Classiest fans in college football'. Later during that same visit, a guy walks in wearing USC gear... mouthing off "Trojans all the way baby!" and eventually gets around to my new OU friend who is still standing in line. After a few stupid taunts he comes right out (in public) with "Oh, and f*ck you Oklahoma... we got your asses back in 05!" With that perspective in mind, we ARE the classiest fans in college football. On the flip side...I have heard some Husker fans beat their chests and talk smack about how we beat (enter team name here) back in the early 90's. Fair point... I have done my fair share of boasting (I work with Iowa State and Missouri alums), but I have never been belligerent, abusive, rude, etc. But as Dan Beebe himself said, a few outliers and bad eggs do not a fan base make.

  7. My wife is a UNL alum and has been in CA for 9 years. The first time I visited Lincoln from my native Los Angeles, she took me out onto the stadium turf... And I instantly became one of Nebraska's biggest fans and have followed religiously ever since. That was in 2001, right before she moved here with me. Since then, the bowl game last year was our first Husker game since our kids were born. Needless to say, it's hard to travel and attend games with two little ones, a single income, and the cost if living here in Orange county... But we do (and did, last year) our best. :-) If you'd be interested in PM'ing me, perhaps I could put those tickets to good use. ;-) Also, I am checking in on the official roll call. My wife and I will be there! GBR!
  8. I have to say, I will be there and so will hundreds (thousands?) of my southern California Big Red friends. Here's a challenge to Husker nation: enjoy San Diego, enjoy New Year's, enjoy the looks of a bright and prosperous future... And let's sell the mother f'er out! 80% Nebraska fans filling the stadium. Chants of Go Big Red so loud it will seem like a game in Lincoln. Let's do it. GBR.
  9. South Orange county here. I agree. While I still feel that this is the ultimate 'slight', I am very much looking forward to seeing them. I will go to cheer them on, and it will be awesome. Period.
  10. Anybody else notice the team opening the UPS box with the trophy in it, at the end of that video? Yeah, me neither... Because it wasn't MAILED to them. :-) GBR
  11. One thing we all need to remember right now is that, regardless of attitude and intentions, as of this minute Taylor is a Husker... he puts red on, goes to class, and is responsible for some of the magic this season brought us. He deserves our support and positive thoughts until true facts are revealed. :-) Everyone deserves a second chance, right?
  12. Was this the commercial you are talking about? I am not so sure it's her... http://www.pacificlife.com/PLCorporateSite/Templates/HalfAndHalf.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fAbout%2bPacific%2bLife%2fGeneral%2bInformation%2fadvertising%2ehtm&NRNODEGUID=%7b34EFBEE3-94E9-4B76-9008-FC7D0EEC4EA8%7d&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest# Also, here is a link to the site with all of their TV advertising: http://www.pacificlife.com/About+Pacific+Life/General+Information/advertising.htm
  13. I'll agree with you that keeping them from the press was done to "protect" them rather than punish them, but I still think it was an emotionally-charged and bad decision. Are their egos so fragile that they can't face the media? It's part of building a team with high character. Do the players owe the media anything? No. Are amateur athletes obliged to answer to fans? No. Does Bo have every right to shelter his players from the media? Yes. My point is simply that they're better off as a team if they're made to answer for shortcomings as well as successes. DCHusker, great points and I totally agree. I think the biggest issue for me is that... yes, they are mature adults who can answer for their shortcomings but just like my example of a VP taking responsibility for his division's performance... I think it was Bo's way of standing up and saying "There is nothing that my player's would tell you that I can't..." He's basically saying HE messed up and letting his players answer for HIS let-down doesn't make sense to him. Although he was visibly frustrated with the play of the individuals, he is the boss-man and sees his actions as such. Great points... I really enjoy your posts, DCHusker.
  14. Wow... okay, where to begin with how wrong this post is. First, they are NOT professionals... they are amateur athletes and if you have attended school at UNL you know you see them in class, around campus, living away from their families, their hometown friends... and not profiting one bit from it. So don't call them out as "professionals". Pelini is the only one on the hook for this and he knows it and is stepping up. When he lucyliu said they aren't athletes, they are professionals doing their job, she was talking about journalists, not the players, you should've read the post more carefully... Point taken, DCHusker... thanks for the clarification. I will be much more careful in reading next time...
  15. Wow... okay, where to begin with how wrong this post is. Tim Griffin, from the Big 12 Blog at ESPN, posted something very similar and I sent him this response... "Tim, you really seem to have it out for Bo Pelini with some of your commentary... what gives? I do not believe his decision to keep his players from the media was related to "punishing them", nor do I think (as you state) that a 'better punishment' would be to have them go before the media and explain their actions... I don't know about you and how your job works but the team that I manage at work, I take full responsibility for them, apologize when WE make mistakes, and I NEVER throw any of them under the bus, because as a leader you just don't do that. Asking Pelini to parade his defeated and deflated team out in front of the media after a performance like that is actually like asking a VP to go into a big board meeting and, rather than explain to the board himself his division's sour performance, parade each one of his employees before the board in an effort to show how little was actually the VP's fault and how much it was his employees. Emotionally-charged, wrong decision? No... Your attack on him for making a management decision and ensuring his team is not demoralized further... WAY WRONG. He's looking out for his boys and he's doing it in the way any leader would. If Bob Stoops had been on the other end last night, do you think he would have said "Hey, it's not me... ask my players why they screwed up so bad!" Come on, Tim..." In addition, it's not embarrassing that he is trying to rally his players, especially when some of them don't come close to matching-up, athletically, with Oklahoma's starters. (The same goes for Baylor... did you see their speed in the open field?) I agree you need to hold in some of the F-bombs when the cameras are all on you and maybe Bo got to feeling a little loose with the curses when he was just D-Coordinator and Les Miles had to take all the camera time... but the bottom line is, I would love for my son to go to a school where he can be pushed to be the best he can be and a coach who won't let him quit... Bo is not abusing his players, he is driving them to succeed and sometimes they don't give the effort or make the plays and Bo corrects that.
  16. Sorry, but they are the only ones to blame for the ticky tack, stupid, lack of concentration penalties we picked up this half... I disagree entirely. As a player, if you don't have the personal discipline to avoid those type of stupid mistakes then you should not be playing at this level I see to remember, as a player, making TONS of mistakes like this that caused penalties... and not one of them was my coach's fault. BUT, he sure made me feel the pain for causing those penalties the next week at practice and I sure as hell never made the same mistake again. I think Bo will do everything he can to pound it in to his team... but false starts and being ancy on defense and crossing the line early... I don't blame Bo for that...
  17. After reading your posts for so long and really enjoying your opines (I dont even know if that is how you use that word!) I would agree 100% with you... enough said. :-)
  18. I'm kind of wondering if ESPN did this JUST to rub it in our face or if they thought this would really be a good game. I am having trouble thinking of the last national Husker game that was a GOOD game for the Huskers...? Oh shoot, they just showed Daniel and Buffet... good Lord, can't Nebraska have anything sacred anymore.
  19. Hahaha... that is a great poin... right on! My wife just got up and walked away, disgusted, and I laughed, reminding her that, like Nebraska, Missouri will not dominate forever and hopefully it will return to a fun-to-watch rivalry game.
  20. Ahhhhh... the joys of the HD-DVR... YES, he did do a quick one-finger salute but then quickly pulled it back. AND, I'm pretty sure he is drunk or well on his way to being drunk. FUN! At least he, unlike Joe Namath, didn't ask to kiss the sideline reporter...
  21. Nice to see true Husker fans are censored on a night when people like this can get away with throwing "their" team under the bus. **Nevermind... I don't mean to start anything... moving on.** My bad deleted your post for personally attacking the poster and not the post. No censorship just making sure things don't get out of hand. I do have a question, What is a "true fan"? I've always wondered that. Idea: Perhaps we can start a whole thread dedicated to "what is a true fan" during the next week or before the TT game. I'm sure the definition is different, each and every person you talk to... but my definition, if you are asking (LOL) is someone who follows their team through the good and bad years, cheers louder when the team has been knocked in the mouth but is still going... and who never, ever chastises these young men for playing their hearts out for our entertainment benefit.
  22. I never stated they were "getting it done". Re-read my response... What I DID do was call you out for making judgments and throwing the coaching staff under the bus for failed execution by the players (almost none of whom were recruited by this coaching staff). In High School I had a coach who, our first year, led us to a 1-9 record. Everyone laid it on his shoulders and said he "wasn't getting it done" and but it was his first year and we went back to the drawing board, re-learned his strategies and plays, and re-dedicated ourselves. In our second year we went 10-0 and won the City Section Championship. I realize this is not High School (although I'm sure this is the only comment most on this board will focus on) but I also point to the fact that evey (EVERY) win and loss is laid squarely (in my opinion) on the shoulders of the head coach... but to state that the coaching staff is part of the problem with this group of players is inaccurate at best, ludicrous at worst.
  23. Agreed, DCHusker... we just are hurting ourselves tonight... badly.
