  1. I think someone brought up somewhere on the radio or something that there is a bit of an issue of teaching "old dogs new tricks" across the board. Something like the coaches were saying that during the games players were often lapsing back into their previous techniques coaching wise. Like perhaps one reason Glenn looks so good is because of this, he may be making lots of mental errors but the only technique he knows is what he has learned since spring.
  2. you know, I think the Callahan regime really changed the way we think. Even in the Osborne days it seemed like almost every year there would be a let down game, usually early in the year against the likes of Akron or UCF. Back then we were always like "our guys were looking ahead," "we are saving stuff for x," "people are nicked up and resting for x" - whether any of it was true or not we choked it down and usually had a good season. Now we see a game where we underperform in pretty much every way and still come out on top 35-12 and its "oh no, here we go again." Don't get me wrong, I felt this way all day, and I'm having a hard time convincing myself otherwise. I just hope everyone stays behind the team and coaches this time if things go bad.
  3. Did you have your eyes open on Saturday? They ran those stinkin crossing routes for 10-15 yards repeatedly without the play getting stopped, that's how it reminded me of a Cosgrove defense, the inability for the defense to adjust on the fly. You think that game was a marked improvement over last year? Nevada was held to 185 yards offense in the opener, and that team has more offensive firepower than Western Michigan does. Also, don't tell me to go cheer for another team if I wasn't pleased. That's a bullsh#t attitude. What I saw on Saturday was not a marked improvement of bogastic proportions that has been built up. True, they may be building towards that, but they aren't there yet. I am supportive of this team, but after the past 5 years or so, I am cautiously optimistic and would like to see more encouraging signs before drinking the Boberry kool-aid that everyone is drunk on. I think this team can and will get better, but after 1 game, I am not going to say they are awful, not going to say they are great. I am saying I saw a lot of things that we saw in the past few years that many complained about. Hopefully those things get corrected and they can continue to improve. I think that is where we will see the difference in coaching staffs. I'm not passing judgement, which is why I said, "I hope to see marked improvement between game 1 and 2 when most improvement takes place." I don't understand why some people cannot accept objective observations about their team. I don't think I stated anything that wasn't obvious in watching the game. Some of you need to settle down a bit. Geez. Yeah we had a little bit of trouble with a couple certain routes, and got burned by the TE a few times, but it never approached looking like a Cosgrove defense. Here is why: 1. when we stopped a guy behind the backfield early in the game, all 11 people were there making the tackle, I can't even remember the last time I have seen that 2. 8 rushing yards 3. DL's that do something other than act like they are blocking the O linemen 4. CB's that try to make plays on the ball more than the reciever 5. 4 sacks 6. 2 turnovers (left a few on the field, too) 7. and most importantly people acting excited- even coaches (lol @ ekeler). yeah we held Nevada to 185 yards last year, but had we played them later in the year when things were clicking and they had Kopernick starting, it would have been different.
  4. i think this game is going to be murderous, and the only reason sjsu will put up points is because of our reserves getting ample time.
  5. Yeah, its kinda silly, they have SWAT-like party busting squads, and undercover party buster agents.
  6. If you are back farther, that is farther you are throwing the ball, more time for the defense to react, too. Also, a deep shotgun gives you an easy angle at defensive end, or whoever is coming off the edge to rush. Has to be harder to snap that deep too, so why not have someone coming hard right up the gut? My only question is do the ref's extend their idea of the "box" that you need to be out of to throw it away when in the shotgun? I wish that rule never made it to college. What will be funny is if we play Mizzou and it turns into a defensive slugfest, everyone will be scratching their heads then.
  7. OU Tough one, IDK about Florida yet this year. I say Mizzou although IDk after that illinois game. would be a good one I'll take Texas, maybe McCoy will put it together again this year, I think they will be better again. not sold on Tech yet, so Auburn Bama they looked really good NU I'm liking what i see and not that impressed with Spurrier's team OSU could be that UCLA will magically be good this year, but I'm thinking Tennessee wasn't that good instead. No more Woodson, but I'm not sold on Hawkins either, this one is a draw for me, I'll go with Kentucky Petrino might have been a bad move, but Ark should have way more talent than ISU KSUcks...its Vanderbilt... Miss State is probly a bit better than Ark State, lol Ole Miss its funny that its the 'wild rebel' offense now, but whatever its called Baylor won't stop it. thats 6 B12 and 6 SEC IMHO, but really you would have to weight the top games more than the bottom games, too. Thing is the way teams match up is weird. Like, i might take Kansas against Auburn, but not against Alabama, and Mizzou might matchup better with LSU or Georgia or w/e
  8. I just thought that the running game looked a little out of sync. I saw a lot of guys getting good hits and whatnot, but the timing just wasn't always great, the speed of the blocking I think was the issue, I mean look at that run Lucky had where he had to stop and wait for a minute. Yeah WMU was stacking the line and using some run blitz/plugs, but I think a lot of it will be just syncing everything up a bit. I hope thats all it is, anyway.
  9. I just wish they would stop making losses in championship games count. All the conferences that have championship games get screwed hard.
  10. A perfectly legitimate explanation of what happened could be that someone other than Andy did this to the woman, I don't think she likely just made the whole incident up. She turns around and confronts him, and he looks at her with the described "blank face" because he is confused about what the hell is going on, why is some drunk girl screaming at me and he was drunk himself. I'm pretty sure that she admitted she slapped him, and in response to that he poured a drink on her and walked away. She then approached him later because she felt accosted (and rightly so, but perhaps at the wrong person?) and a second drink was poured on her, then the bar tender who based on his comments seems biased against football players and perhaps a little too buddy buddy with the police jumps in and tells him to leave. Now, I'm not saying that the choices Andy made in this situation were good, but especially when drunk it would be pretty easy to get really mad about being slapped and some guy threatening to call the cops on you when you didn't do anything, and only escalate when the cops do show up and try to cuff you when you are finally bowing to the demands of the bartender and leaving. Just trying to point out there are other possibilities as to what the scene was actually like. Essentially we as fans just have to trust how Bo handles the team. Without the misdemeanor charges I would actually feel bad for him because he has missed so much of the season and everything. Just another reason for football players to stay out of bars though.
  11. Also, he DID plead guilty to charges of resisting arrest and assaulting the police vehicle or w/e.
  12. To beat MU we need to do the same things that they would need to do to beat us.
  13. i'd agree with the sentiment that they all looked good at times and not so great at times, but they all showed good talent and a nice aggressive playstyle. West had one of the best plays of the game when he pushed his WR into the other reciever on the little WR swing/screen, but then he had one of the worst when he hit that receiver downfield before O'Hanlon picked the pass off, would have been a huge play if he didn't touch him.
  14. I think you are talking about Asante, aren't you? Because he was pretty much what you described. I'm guessing he meant West since he is wearing #5 this year instead of Murillo. And with West, I would have to agree. The guy really had an opportunity at 3 INTs. First the one that bounced in front of him but he lost his footing before he could get to it, another that he flat dropped and the final one he got, but nearly dropped as well. After he finally got the INT, it looked like he got some confidence and played well after. But for over 3 quarters he was pretty bad. You guys need to strap it on and go show the guys how to do it... These guys have been functionally uncoached for a couple of years. Give them a few games to adjust before ripping them. They played hard, and that is a huge improvement. yeah, seriously, i was actually really surprised at how good West looked. The big play for him was on that WR swing pass where he blew up his receiver and pushed him into the guy with the ball. I haven't seen that play played that well in YEARS.
  15. this is all pretty pointless you just can't say anything based on a week of play as to whether or not this team is better than that team or w/e, and you also can't really use the previous year's stats against a team this year. maybe Juice really improved his throwing ability. hell, Juice could end up being one of the best qb's out there, just like pretty much every quarterback on every team
  16. the only thing i really remember is him quoting cervantes, that seemed kind of strange
  17. I noticed on the preseason NE Football show that Rigoni is an assistant for the strength staff. They have this one routine involving laying down and standing up with a "plate" that they make players do 100 of if they are late, Dobson said Rigoni did 1000 in a row just as a personal test.
  18. When was the last time we matter on a national level? That year and that game basically was the beginning of the end of us in the National picture. The next game only exposed us even more. I'm sorry but when teh #2 team in the country gives up over 500 yards and 62 points to the #14 team that is a drubbing. There is no other way to look at it. That game is kind of like when Roy Jones Jr got beat the first time people started taking notice that maybe this rough and tough dude wasn't what he was made out to be. Look what has happened since he has been beaten a few more times and has beaten NOBODY of substance. Sounds like us after getting smacked in the face by CU. I'm sorry but 7-7, 10-3, 5-6, 8-4, 9-5, 5-7 doesn't equal being back. Being ranked in the final rankings twice in that same span doesn't equal recovering from getting smacked in the face. No, no no. What I am really trying (and not doing a good job) to get at is that ONE game is not the CAUSE of years of not being top 10. That just isn't the way it works unless you believe in mystical bullcrap. You are simplifying the problem. This isn't a boxing match. I'm not saying that that loss didn't have a larger negative effect than most losses do, but if you look at that game our offense was doing just fine, a couple calls go our way and that game is even closer, I said I don't think of it as a drubbing because until some sh**ty calls late in the game it was still in reach and they weren't stopping us any more than we were them. The reason i say we recovered isn't because we were top ten the next year, but our defense was solid once again- losing our entire offense (crouch) from the previous year is what led to the 3 big losses to the 3 quality teams. But basically you can't take a program involving hundreds of coaches and players, millions of fans and whatnot and think of it in this manner like you are, I'm glad you brought up boxing because that is exactly the mentality with which you are looking at it as and you just can't do that IMHO.
  19. How can we not have recovered? That was seven years ago. None of the same players at this point. I just have a problem with pointing to that one game and thinking that that game was the end of something or whatever. I think we have to worry about recovering from last year, not one game that while we ended up giving alot of points wasn't quite the drubbing it got made out to be, nothing like many of those games last year.
  20. Meh I think we recovered once already from that Colorado game, I just don't see that game quite the way everyone else does I guess. Also, I don't think the other teams you mentioned will be going in circles forever. Hell, I'm no Saban fan but I guarantee Alabama will be back in the picture again. And FSU will have to put together a halfway decent season at some point for Bowden to retire. If the current staff falls flat on their faces, i don't think it will go beyond this year, but even then, someday, someone will come along...
  21. i don't know if nevada is a cupcake, they were playing pretty well at the end of the year last year, if we had played them later in the year we would have been in for a game IMO. I thought Illinois was decent last year, but they did lose their best player. Most importantly it ain't gonna be easy for Mizzou to come in here with swirling winds and win for the first time in idk how many years!
  22. they said the other day that starting today until gametime tomorrow it would run for 24 hours.
  23. meh, good nfl qb and good college qb are not always the same thing. In fact, it is almost always the case that good college qb's dont pan out in the NFL and the good NFL qb's come from nowhere. I agree with palmer's points, there is a reason Cally was recruiting Freeman, bc he had the NFL archetype.
