  1. well according to those in the know, NU is in the running for multiple really talented D-Lineman. Below is a summary list from a post about the prediction proficiency of Louisana Husker. Corey Adams might be one of the best recruits in the nation if you take into consideration the position he plays. I personally feel that interior D-Lineman like Peter, Smith, etc. take a D over the top. I don't think this is a case of focusing first on O-lineman, I just think they got more commits from O-Lineman early do to NU's proficiency on that side of the ball. Remember the D is a work in progress. Corey Adams Visit 9/26 in his top 4 Randall Dent Top 2? Latu Heimuli Jamarcus McFarland William Sutton Siosaia Tuipulotu Visit 9/5
  2. I don't know, next season scares the hell out of me with no proven QB at the helm. You know teams do go through this every so often, new players do eventually have to step in. TT doesn't seem to get their back up QB's in that much and they just keep plugging them in.
  3. So you want to hand them out, but not based on the tradition? That doesn't make sense, these jerseys wouldn't exist if it weren't for the tradition they sprang from. Is the intent to make a whole new tradition. I have an idea, let's have the fans vote on what the "tradition" should be going forward. Let's check the definition of tradition: tra·di·tion /trəˈdɪʃən/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[truh-dish-uhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from generation to generation, esp. by word of mouth or by practice: a story that has come down to us by popular tradition. 2. something that is handed down: the traditions of the Eskimos. 3. a long-established or inherited way of thinking or acting: The rebellious students wanted to break with tradition. 4. a continuing pattern of culture beliefs or practices. 5. a customary or characteristic method or manner: The winner took a victory lap in the usual track tradition. It seems clear to me that you just can't make up what you want a tradition to be as you go. The tradition is that the 2-Deep earned the shirts.
  4. It seems no one remembers the 80s when our defense was why we never won national titles. They gave them out back then, right? Exactly, I love how everyone is trying to equate this to game performance as the "tradition." As Huskerswrkhavok said above, the 2-deep got them at the end of fall ball just prior to the first game week. It symbolized the work it took to become a starter. Back then the work was tough, the walk on team was large and fought the scholarship players tooth and nail. Still the overall performance of the starting D in the 80's was good, but not the model of perfection everyone seems to make a Blackshirt D to be. The tradition wasn't created or changed by the dominance of the teams in the 90's but that seems to be all that anyone remembers. How is this for a comparison, no one in the Big XII is higher than 34 in total D (Oklahoma). In fact only 3 teams are in the top 50 in total D, OU, UT, and OSU. Nebraska sits 5th in the Big XII at 64 in total D. From being very near the bottom last year to upper half of the Big XII I would say is a signal that this year's team understands what level of effort and dedication it takes to play at this level. They have earned the Blackshirts.
  5. i tend to agree, i think this kid may just be a huge sleeper....... I tend to disagree. Watch for incoming QB, Cody Green to make a splash early. I do not see any of the current quarterbacks on this roster making any type of considerable impact during their tenure at UNL. Especially if none of them get any type of experience before they EVER get the nod. Based on what exactly? Are you watching the practices? I haven't either, but I know that Kody Spano was a pretty good recruit by any measure, and was more of a dual threat QB than the current back up which is Witt. I don't see a freshman QB coming and starting, I know it happens sometimes but I don't see it in this offense. Let's just say I have seen my fair share of the quarterbacks on this roster. As you said, no freshman will come in and start right away, especially at the QB position within this offense. Agreed. But also, as I said, I do not see any of the QB's on this roster making any type of considerable impact in the future. If anything, Witt will be the guy until Green or someone else steps up. Ok I'll bite, exactly what/whom do you see happening next year at QB? This question was next year only I believe. I have little doubt that in 2 years Green may be the answer, but as a true freshman I just don't see it. Nor do I ... unless Green is just that good, and the coaches think he is our best shot at winning. Next year I believe Witt will be the guy. While he isn't as mobile, he has the best arm and best knowledge of the offense. He reminds me of Zac Taylor and Brook Berringer; and we all know how those guys turned out. Don't quote me on this either, but Green could turn out to be the next Frazier. While I agree with the sentiment about Witt, the issue I have with that statement is that Zac was good under a different offense completely. Witt is nothing like Brook, Patrick Witt is no where close to the runner that Brooke was. Witt wouldn't stand a chance in an option attack. This is why I think Spano will have a great shot to win the job. The current offense they are running is a spread attack that relies on a mobile QB. Ganz is always making plays out of the pocket and the option is a play they run again. Witt doesn't bring that element to the game. Maybe Lee over Spano.

  8. Remind me why you are a NU fan? Nothing is ever good enough for you. We won by 28pts, i dont care who it is 28 pts is a beat down and you have to play some decent ball to win by that amount. If it would have been 70-7 would that have satisfied you? Because it easily could have been. We took the air out of the ball in the second half and didnt run the score up. Its not our fault we have to play the worst "looking" team in the Big 12. Take the W and be happy. God it must suck to be you, life is hard enough let alone nit picking some college kids for not scoring 70 pts. Sounds like the kind of guy who would complain about winning $10M in the lottery because he would have to pay nearly half in taxes....I think we need to make a triple batch of Koolaid
  9. in other words, what? Answer to original question was yes, but I would like to see more sacks. To tie in another thread relating to the defense, if we can sack Baylor's QB a couple times while running a good defensive scheme (ie no big 60ish yard touchdown runs) maybe those blackshirts can get passed out and we can move on to the next issue. Hopes that was engrish enough for ya's It's OK Army, I got your back. Next time just use a whole bunch of ackronyms like you are used to.
  10. Number 21 in passing yards so far in the season and he's not impressive? Considering the lack of talent around him (with the exception of one individual), I would say that's pretty damn good... Again. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I think the reason they did not get any reps is because the QB they want to have the reps is not here yet. As clone says Opinions may vary... As for having Ganz in during the 4th Quarter during the MU game, apparantly that is turning out to be a good move. The coaches seem to be pointing to that moment as a turning point in the offensive schemes. Watson wanted to work on some things and felt that getting something going for the first string O, and get wins THIS year, was more important than getting backups in.
  11. I think Kody Spano will make the biggest impact simply because I think he will win the starting job and QB is arguably the most important position on the field. As the starter, he will have the biggest impact on how the team does.....good or bad.
  12. Stoops is starting to gain the rep of not being able to win the big game. I hope that's not another similarity Bo and Stoops will have in the future. TO had that reputation for what 20 some years? Stoops biggest problem is staff turnover. This killed Snyder at KState, and it's killing Stoops at OU. Looking at our staff, it's hard to say if we'll lose anyone. Watson is probably the only logical choice for moving on, but I can't really think of anyone else. Ekler is really starting to make a name for himself, especially as a recruiter. IMO he will leave for a coordinator job in 3-5 years. I also think Beck is destined for Coordinator positions in the near future. Not wishing poorly on Watson but I wouldn't mind seeing him stick around here and take those duties. While I like Beck and he definately has experience to do this, especially as Passing Game Coordinator at Kansas, I am not sure I want to see NU go to a true Spread Offense. I like this "Nebraska" offense Watson has going now. They can do a whole lot out of it.

  14. Hm, it always seems to be that Watson is 'too conservative' on 3rd and shorts. That, or he gets 'too cute' on 3rd and shorts. In the end it's just about execution, and as you say, they just didn't get it done in the 3rd quarter. I think we came out flat after the half, but thankfully they got their act back together. IIRC, the big thing was the lost scoring opportunity at the end of the half. It could have been 28-0. My comments on the 3rd and shorts was simply that they FAILED to execute. My comment about Watson getting conservative wasn't my explanation of why they failed. I was pointing out that while Watson tried to run a bit more the team still had several golden opportunities to keep drives alive, that is as you put it a lack of execution. They continued to run the ball more late in the 3rd and 4th, yet they converted better and it yielded 2 TDs.
  15. Yeah but he is playing behind Dillard. I don't see him supplanting Dillard next year, and if this year is any indication the back ups aren't coming in a lot at LB. Could just be the coaches building depth, but also could be philosophy about keeping starters in.
  16. This is typical for a Callahan led team. Wait he isn't the coach anymore. I figured some of the younger guys would have played as well but what are you gonna do? If it wasn't for the turnovers in the first half, this would have been a lock early in the 3rd. We see the scrubs then IMO. Still a lot of room for improvement.
  17. I like the way they are getting Mendoza involved in the passing game now, a screen here and there. Might make him that weapon in the future that Lucky is now.
  18. I completely agree. Some people only have to remember being a fan in the 80's to understand. I watched too many defeats in the Orange Bowl.
  19. Well they stole some of our traditions too....like the tunnel walk and "Cyclone Power" its exactly like the Husker pregame, and I got pissed today sitting in Jack Trice watching them ruin it. and, what was with all the smoke when they ran out of the tunnel? Did that sort of thing die with the Miami Hurricanes? Was it me or did it appear that the ISU players got lost a second or two in that smoke? They disappeared for a moment, I think they stopped and hesitated like they weren't sure which way to run?
  20. Pretty much spot on, only point I will nitpick a bit is your assesment of the running game. I think the running game is a bit healthier than you indicate. This was the second game in a row that they have had success in the running game. The TT game and ISU together make for significant promise of what this team can do this year as a balance offense that holds the ball for 35 to 40 minutes a game.
  21. I think my favorite was one poster asking Mack to call off the dogs and another poster saying "Um why? We don't call the dogs off either when we're up big. Why should we beg for mercy?" Serves Pinkel right, loved how he ran off and avoided the press after the game.
  22. He was on fire today. I thought the receivers played well though, other than the fumbles. Hang onto the ball! Other then the fumbles? Reminds me of all the runningback fumbles Nebraska had Solichs first year. That is an excellent point. Holt and Peterson both gave up TO's. Swift almost had a TO in the first half. I think Holt also had a near miss. A lot of issues holding onto the ball today.
  23. watson got somewhat conservative with the play calling in the third quarter...you can see how it threw our offense out of sync right away...agreed we should of gone for the kill...i've said it before and i'll say it again. we can move the ball on most teams if we come out with the intension to throw and throw until they give us some running..the only person that can mess that up is watson with his play calling sometime...i like running the ball as much as the next guy but with this line we can't just line up and run people over..our success in the running game will only come when we open up the passing game...throw and throw then run some not the other way around...i hate it when watson tries to get conservative with the running..now i'm done with my complaining You know I just rewatched the game and I think that that 3rd quarter was a result of 2 or 3 missed 3 and shorts. I think they had at least 2 3rd downs and 1 or 2 to go and they just couldn't convert. Right before that they had moved at least 1 first down prior to each. In the first half they made all of the 3rd and shorts. I think Watson got a bit conservative, but if they make those I think they get at least another TD in this game.
  24. So what is your point? The point of an institution of higher learning is to challenge your way of thinking and allow you to see all sides of life/issues. They say that history is written by those who won or are in charge. The universities prevent that from being overly oppressive in the development of the young mind. If you don't get all sides of an issue you can't make a rational decision. At it's core, this is a large part of what free speach is all about. Being able to express an opinion without oppression. I for one applaud UNL for doing this, it represents what America is all about.
