  1. Depends on how long the race is, on a track, Robinson wins hands down. Even Cody Green is faster to 10 yards as timed by our staff than Taylor last winter. However Taylor did beat Cody in the 40 and shuttle run IIRC.
  2. In a very sad development, Dorial's younger brother Darnell (an outstanding prospect in his own right) has been diagnosed with Leukemia is undergoing treatment immediately to combat it. Prayers going out to the Beckham-Green family in this rough time. http://www.kspr.com/news/local/kspr-darnell-greenbeckham-hillcrest-freshman-diagnosed-with-leukemia-20110223,0,1723614.story
  3. This one will be interesting, I don't see how a cameraman flashing a shot of a recruit sitting next to a coach equals an announcement of a player.
  4. You can view a sample of Dr. Tom's multiple formations and plays within each formation here. Some of you are already familiar with this website, but for those of you who aren't, it's highly recommended reading. Furthermore, compare the Nebraska run game to the Oregon run game. The similarities are uncanny in language and concept. FYI, Chip Kelly did visit Nebraska coaches while Dr. Tom was still head man at NU back in the 90s so it's not surprising why similarities exist between the two. Ditto! This saying may be a broken record, cliche, beating a dead horse, whatever else you wanna call it, but: It Starts In The Trenches. I had heard of this site. I have now spent the better part of a rainy day checking it out. Thanks Nex. To quote the aforementioned website in my previous post, this was the reason why our O-line had success during the Osborne era. Hopefully Beck's playbook is similar conceptually speaking. The less the O-line has to think, the better off they'll be. The blocking schemes during the Osborne era were anything but simple. I've attached our 97 playbook that is out on the internet. There were 170 plays in the 1997 Nebraska Offensive playbook, which isn't exactly simple. Mike Leach's offense, was actually pretty simple. They ran a handful of plays, but ran them out of different formations and used great repetition in practice to get to the level of execution that they had. Also, it's been pointed out that Chip Kelly took inspiration from TO for his offense, which is true. But Chris Ault specifically says that his offense was developed off of what TO's mid 90's offense was, so the pistol was developed based of TO's offense primarily. I knew there was a reason I liked watching Nevada's offense so much
  5. Taylor wasn't allowed to scramble? He couldn't scramble. If you watch the tape, you'll see Taylor trying to get around the end and getting caught be a DE. Did Cody play well in the Holiday Bowl? Absolutely not, but he did come in on a cold wet night trying to fix an offense that was stumbling all over the field before he came in. We'll have issues if Cody starts, but if we start a redshirt freshman that hasn't taken a single snap in D1 we'll suddenly be fine? Yes, Taylor did okay as a RS Frosh last year, but then again we had basically the same record with him as we had with a gimpy Zac Lee the year before, and all of Taylor's stats came early in the year, vs crap competition, just like Zac Lee.
  6. You answered your own question... Let me add that as you roll, so do the defenders, you now have 5-7 defenders in about 1/2 the space as you do in the pocket which makes the reads more difficult, it's much easier for defenders to make breaks or hide when the field is congested. Joe Ganz was a prime example of this IYAM.
  7. He'll have better vision, won't have to worry about managing the pocket, will be able to improvise and run the ball if he wants to... Plus maybe since he'll be outside of the tackle box he'll have an easier time learning how to throw the ball away, since he can just throw it into the stands if he wants to... Just as long as he doesn't underhand flip it again... It's much more difficult to read a defense while you are on the move than standing in the pocket, when you roll out you get limited to basically half the field rather than having the whole field. Taylor struggled to make reads in the pocket, why will rolling out allow him to make better decsions? It's more difficult to throw an accurate ball on the run than standing still. When he got to the outside this year we saw things like flipping the ball, throwing across his body in the end zone to Travis Lewis, running but not tucking the ball resulting in fumbles. Obviously spring and fall practices should help this out, but I've never understood why people think that having a player move out of the pocket will improve poor vision, decision making or throwing accuracy.
  8. Cody played the entire first quarter against OU, and the first play of the 2nd quarter (a 3rd and 8). Cody wasn't given a chance in that game, His first drive on 3rd and 6 Williams had a false start to make it 3rd and 11. Conservative QB sneak then punt 2nd drive Marcel gets a personal foul called on the first play, putting Cody in a 1st and 24 situation. 3 conservative calls later and we punt 3rd drive Marcel gets a false start, puts the O in a 2nd and 16, conservative then punt. 4th drive we get it to 3rd and 2, and Helu gets stuffed on 3rd, punt. 5th drive we went run, run, and an incompletion, punt. Then we got the pick, and Lee threw the TD after Trey got stuffed from the 1 but OU was offsides. Lee did nothing in that game, he ran 10 times for -13 yards, and threw 9 for 35. That means he had 19 plays and gained 22 yards. Cody had 11 plays for 12 yards (6 runs for 8 yards and 5 passes for 4 yards). Both were pathetic, Helu and the D won us that game, even Alex missed 43 yarder that would have made it a 2 score game (his only miss less than 50 all year).
  9. Sorry, but Taylor has enough trouble with accuracy when standing still most the time, why do people think that him trying to throw on the run will be a positive thing?
  10. The past is the past with Cody and Taylor. Hopefully every QB on the roster has a clean slate and will be in contention for the job this Spring, and hopefully we have a starter named by fall camp, but I really doubt that will be the case.
  11. Sean Callahan posted a few minutes ago that Gilmore is a candidate for the open USC WR coaching position. Best of luck to Gilmore in finding a new home.
  12. Ted Gilmore rumored to be in the running for USC WR job

  13. This article explains a lot http://benkoo.com/articles/biz-and-tech/ex-rivals-founder-shannon-terry-looking-to-challenge-rivals-scout-and-espn-with-college-recruiting-network-20.html
  14. We went 5 years ago on vacation, Aquarium, Braves game, Coke and CNN tours. We used the MARTA system the entire week and it wasn't too bad really other than when we thought we could walk back to the Marta station from the Martin Luther King Memorial rather than wait for the bus, we went through a rough neighborhood and the wife freaked. Other than that? Great place to visit.
  15. Bo has dropped by his school in the past month.
  16. probably not many - but look around at how many have a dedicated QB coach... exactly.............. Oregon, Auburn, Stanford and Wisconsin all managed just fine in 2010 without a dedicated QB coach. did they all have first year OC's?? This isn't Beck's first year as an OC
  17. probably not many - but look around at how many have a dedicated QB coach... exactly.............. Oregon, Auburn, Stanford and Wisconsin all managed just fine in 2010 without a dedicated QB coach.
  18. Other schools are considering doing it, with as much responsibility that centers have with protection calls in both the running and passing game these day and making adjustments it isn't a bad idea.
  19. And the funny thing is everyone remembers the 2007 KU offense as one that threw the ball all over the field, but they actually ran the ball 486 times to 502 passes after factoring sacks in as passes rather than runs. That's pretty balanced in reality, but I would expect to see more of a 60/40 to 65/35 run/pass ratio at least this year.
  20. Would people have said differently about Tom Osborne's old staff? That staff was unique because of continuity, not because it was a cast of superstars. Gill was the only one considered a rising star, and McBride, while respected, did not have near the reputation of the Pelini brothers as a defensive mastermind. I'm personally just happy to see the last couple of ties to the Callahan era severed. Bo's got his guys now, let's see what they can do. Agreed, but you understimate the staff that Osborne had, our offensive coaching staff passed over many opportunities over the years to move on to bigger positions but were content to stay home so to speak. And a final note, best of luck to Shawn Watson. It's unfortunate that it didn't work out for him at Nebraska, I know he worked hard and did his best to put a successful offense on the field. If he does land an NFL job, it seems like a great fit for his skill sets and experience.
  21. Depends on what type of offense Beck wants to run, I think Taylor and Cody will be neck and neck for the starting spot with the nod going to how we want to run the offense. If we go back to a more even run\pass ration it wouldn't shock me to see Cody get the nod. If we stay with a 70/30 mix like this year then Taylor is the most likely option. I don't see Carnes pushing either Cody or Taylor at this point. Turner will have a leg up in the freshmen QB category due to making it through spring ball, and while Bubba is an exciting athlete, IMO he's Cody Green V2 with a little more speed, but still a very raw passer. Kellogg and Spano may be our 2 best true passers on the team, Taylor is improving (the ankle injury really hurt his development in the passing game) and Cody gets a fresh start hopefully (he struggled with the West Coast route concepts, as did just about every QB and WR in the program). I think the most interesting thing will be what will the offense look like under Beck, do we stick with the 2010 type schemes or do we move to something more like KU's offense back in 2007? My guess is somewhere in between where we try to spread the ball around the field a bit more to get our playmakers in space.
  22. Fisher is the RB's coach, Brown covers TE\WR, Cotton and Garrison cover linemen (I think it may go Cotton for exterior line and Garrison for interior line) and Beck has OC\QB. On D you have Papuchis for DE's & ST, Els at LB, Raymond for DB's, Carl for DC\D-Line The interesting thing is who will be the Recruiting Coordinator? I would guess Els or Brown at this point, but probably Brown.
  23. Other than Tariq Allen what is this connection that I am missing or overlooking? On thing Els can bring to the table is someone who can match Bo's attitude, the guy can be a straight ahole as well, so I like that just not Ross. He did find Marc Boerigter(SP?) of KC Chiefs fame. Still say Coleman was the miss. aspeedlin is right about him. Well known and respected in the Jersey area. But oh well. That is why we sit on computers and Bo Knows Football(yes my first Bo Jackson reference ever since the hire, I seriously want to +1 myself for waiting so long) Bo has been friends with Fisher for around a decade, knew him from when Bo coached in New England through a mutual friend. He interviewed for a spot back in 2003 with Frank, guessing that was at Bo's request. Not that it may matter much, but apparently the high school he coached at hadn't had a season that they won more than 5 games in 30 years, they went undefeated this past year. We'll have a very young offensive staff, especially on the offensive side. On paper, this looks like a coaching staff of a MAC team, not a Big Ten team
  24. Found this from an older OWH story "Fisher even interviewed for a position on Frank Solich’s staff at Nebraska when Pelini was hired as defensive coordinator in 2003." http://www.omaha.com/article/20101026/BIGRED/710269770
  25. There was, it's been taken down already though.
