  1. I believe if you look at Donald Trump's claims of driving a robust economy, you'll find the numbers no better and sometimes slightly worse than the last 6.5 years of the Obama economy he inherited. Not sure where you want to put the capture of bin Laden and high terrorist kill rate, or Obama's record as a first-class deporter. Most clear-eyed research suggests the United States was far more respected around the world with Obama than Trump. The entire MO of the Republican Party was to thwart the success of the Obama administration, even if it was good legislation for the American people. That's not a secret: just ask Mitch McConnell. Figure that into your metrics of success and get back to me, although I can't imagine being surprised by your answers. When I say Americans hated the idea of a successful Black president, that includes the non-stop attempts to make him unsuccessful. I played the race card only because Americans are some racist motherf#&%ers, and that was baked into Make America Great Again
  2. Indeed. An unfortunate number of Americans hated the idea of a successful Black president and went in the complete opposite direction. Keen-eyed political observers have also noted that Donald Trump ran against Hillary Clinton, not Barack Obama. As for Trump: what's not to demonize? The man has lost his mind and is clearly willing to drive Democracy into the ground for his personal benefit.
  3. This is a bad trend for elite players who now worry their bowl performance or injury will hurt their NFL stock. A bad message for supporting players, too: "actually we're NOT all in this together. There is no "I" in team, but if you rearrange the letters there is clearly a "me" in team, and that's who I"m looking out for when I leave you guys hanging for the last game of the season."
  4. My Democrat Congressman says almost all his Republican colleagues privately admit Trump's ploy is bats#!t and destructive, but they're afraid of their constituents. We live in a country where QAnon is not the fringe. It's the base. Scary as s#!t.
  5. My issues with Ben Sasse aside, that's a pretty stellar piece of researching, reasoning, and articulating the issue in a way his constituents should appreciate -- but probably won't.
  6. I guess we could be Florida, savoring that Cotton Bowl invite, only to find out our top three receivers have opted out of the game to prepare for the NFL, and the fourth can't play because of COVID testing.
  7. Just for perspective, Hillary Clinton has been voted Most Admired Woman in America 22 times, nearly doubling the woman in second place, Elenor Roosevelt. The only women who weren't First Ladies were Margaret Thatcher, Mother Teresa, Golda Meir, and Ethel Kennedy. Obama is tied with Dwight D. Eisenhower with 12 selections. Reagan and Bill Clinton are tied with 8. The only non-presidents to win are Douglas MacArthur, Henry Kissinger, and Pope John Paul II. I think what this demonstrates mostly is a lack of imagination.
  8. Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. Who'd have guessed when we asked Will There Be a 2020 Football Season that there would be a season and that it would end this predictably? Some of the things critics warned would happen, happened. Some did not. It looked and felt like college football, even without fans in the stands. The stats and standings may have an asterisk, but they seem legit. Players will be able to move forward with their careers or use the pause button. Lots of canceled games, and a get-it-over-with bowl season, but no deaths or serious hospitalizations IIRC. Regrets? Lessons learned? A lot of negatives with the Huskers, but had the season not been played, I get the feeling the program would be in a worse position.
  9. I am truly sorry that the Obama administration wasn't more aggressive in fighting Republican obstructionism, standing up for liberal values, and preventing rightwing media from incorrectly defining the terms of each issue. How exactly did Obama's cautious political moderation grieve you?
  10. That's why I want you to apologize for voting this train wreck of a human being to be the most powerful man in the world.
  11. When the polls didn't quite align in 2016, and again in 2020, they did the forensics and concluded that a lot of people didn't want to admit to supporting Trump, but voted for him given the anonymity of the voting booth. While the likability of Biden vs. Hillary no doubt came into play, every Democrat was slated to be an abortion-loving socialist, and for millions of Americans that was enough to vote for anyone in the opposing party. But millions of Americans genuinely embraced Donald Trump. That he was a race-baiting xenophobe, bully, and red meat populist is exactly what they liked about him. If you play the fraud card, you risk misunderstanding the electorate yet again.
  12. 70 million Americans voted for Donald Trump, knowing he was this kinda guy.
  13. Proud Boys are a fairly small and stupid organization, but they can agitate at something like.....oh I don't know,...the Million Maga March scheduled for the day Congress certifies the election, helping convince folks like yourself that Antifa is the real threat, and fueling the fantasy shared by a disturbing number of supposedly mainstream Republicans that the President didn't actually lose to Joe Biden. Proud Boys are gathering in Washington as we speak. The "stand back, stand by" shout out wasn't super secret at all and every role-playing racist warrior will want to play along. Hopefully they will stay in character and look small and stupid. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/proud-boys-trump-washington-hotel-b1779450.html The point that you keep refusing to acknowledge it that regardless of how likely they are to succeed, Donald Trump considers the Proud Boys his allies and loves the idea that they'd take arms on his behalf. Trump has given similar shout-outs to biker gangs and right-leaning police officers. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/434110-trump-suggests-that-things-could-get-very-bad-if-military-police I'd love to dismiss the threat as a clown show, but the parallels to the Reichstag Fire are a bit troubling. Terrible apology. Try again.
  14. Say, as long as I'm in the Angry Violent Right thread: that was a big f#&%ing bomb set off in Nashville Christmas morning. Don't know much about the guy who set it off, other than he was white. Wild guess: this would have generated breathless coverage on Fox and a non-stop Tweetfest from the President had the bomber simply been identified as non-white.
  15. It's not a super secret. That was the point of my post. Please give a little more thought before responding. The other point doesn't concern whether riots actually take place, it's that the President of the United States is willing to side with white supremacist militias if he thinks they might take action to keep him in office, contrary to the law and democratic process of America. As a Trump voter, the only thing you should be doing now is apologizing. BTW...anyone opposing Donald Trump's attempts to remain in office is an anti-fascist. Hope you'll join us.
  16. Yes, Archy, the metaphor "dog whistle" refers to a sound that one party can hear, and the other cannot. In the current usage, everyone can actually hear this "dog whistle" but it's phrased so people like you can pretend it doesn't mean what everyone knows it means. Does the President of the United States saying "stand back and stand by" mean he's calling for a riot? Yeah. He is. And everything Donald Trump has said and done since only goes to prove it. You do know that the f#&%er you voted for is seriously contemplating a martial law decree to avoid leaving office, right?
  17. They're not confusing. You got it on the first try. Although I think you meant "coded message to NOT support the incoming administration." It's also a dog whistle to protest or death threat any Republican who acknowledges Biden's victory. You don't want to be reading Ben Sasse's emails right now.
  18. If someone had told you the real life adventures Trump had in store back in 2016, you never would have believed it.
  19. We're doing pretty well all things considered, and donated our last stimulus check to a variety of non-profits, charities and political causes. Felt pretty good, so would do the same again.
  20. You gotta admit, having Captain Chaos stumble into the party at the last second and sidle up to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Nancy Pelosi is a pretty delicious Christmas treat.
  21. I know a lot of liberals were thrilled to watch The Lincoln Project conceive and fund those great takedown videos of Trump, but as they say, the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. If the LP wants to keep going all the way into a Third Party, at least it would be an honest choice. Stephen Colbert's team did a good job of putting Rick Wilson in perspective:
  22. I know what you mean about mentality and what I'd personally like to see from the team. But a team that feels like they don't deserve a bowl game isn't necessarily a weaker team. Just a not very good team that's honest about moving forward. None of us can presume the mentality of everyone on the team, but we should respect that the Huskers are in no way unusual or suspect for opting out. Also, while the team might be a "family", most players have biological families that they may want to hang with during this particular holiday season. Also, unprecedented global pandemic and NCAA clusterf•ck.
  23. Again, better teams with more to play for opted out of this highly problematic Bowl Buffet. From what I've seen most fans are behind the decision. Go home. Be healthy. Spend the holidays with the family. Put this season in the rear view mirror. We'll meet up early in the new year and see if we can make a fresh start.
  24. You know how sometimes a team gets the ball with :38 left until halftime, in a game that's not going very well, and instead of pulling out the stops to see if they can squeeze in a score, they just run the ball into the line and let the clock run out? This feels kinda like that.
  25. How close are they? What exactly is she "teaching" him? Because that could cloud the issue.
