The OP made an observation that it was nice to take notice of rankings again. No more, no less. Then out comes the usual suspects who have a genetic imperative to shoot down anyone who says anything that might be deigned optimistic. The OP did not say, hey we're back and a NC is around the corner! It was just a simple expression of an observation. did he not early address very well when he mentioned how to fix recruiting again, which everyone seems to agree with? he could have just said something about being disappointed he missed out on the player, but he likes his players and the talent he is bringing in. then mention that recruiting is competitive and challenging and some of the problems all programs face could be fixed by doing away with national signing day... so on and so forth. that would have been a good way to go. It would have been the perfect way to go. Talk about how you're committed to the players that committed here and go on about points about how you think recruiting could and should look. Or just make it personal again over something that happens to every coach who recruits big names. Have Ole Miss [read between the line$] a player? Ahem... Probably not that status quo you want in college football. Here's the funny thing, can anyone prove that happened? Also, assuming it did, it is not like player compensation under the table is a new, emerging problem in college football. It existed when Bo was a coach in 2008, and when he was an assistant at Oklahoma and LSU before then, two schools that have had such barbs thrown at them. So, either his naivete is astounding, or this is something different. Further, grumbling and calling parents clueless is probably not the best way to actually change the system. And speaking of changing the system, its reasonable to think and hope Bo could probably jump to the level of winning championships, but to think and hope Bo is going to be the Curt Flood of college football as it applies to this issue is pretty far fetched. Here's the funnier thing. Can anyone prove Bo was implying player compensation under the table? Or was he commenting on a parent subordinating a child's ARTICULATED desire to attend NU for some other consideration? But hey, gotta advance that ol' "Bo's wrong" agenda. The sentence is probably a good one. What Lewis did was serious and no one here has tried to minimize it. On the other hand, I'm not buying the special treatment agrument just because he's a student athlete. The judge would consider mitigating circumstances such as (paradoxically) being drunk, relative youth, lack of criminal record, pre-sentence investigative report of his life prior to the incident and propensity for either recidivism or successful intervention. Those mitigating factors apply to everyone.

Everything else is flaccid pretense........

He was smiling. I was furious with Bo for his conduct during and after the Iowa game. But I also recognize my shortcomings and while I try to work on them they're still there. And I also recognize some posters on this board have an agenda that they just will not let go of. Accountability made a good point. The flip isn't even being argued. We've let it go. What is being argues is the $ec cheating being put in the same breath as UNL textbook snafu. Actually, a good portion of the thread was devoted to the possibility of SEC cheating and McClain, and that was the point of my comment. You get no argument from me RE: the insanity NCAA view of giving football student athletes study guides as compared to giving family members cash or jobs, but then that was not part of my post.

I refuse to believe that this particular young man flipped to SC due to money. While it is possible the more rational explanation is that his parents made this decision for him. Now THAT I have problems with. Borders on helicopter parents. But I read nothing about him that leads me to think this is a Cam Newton type deal. The SEC cheats like crazy but I need solid proof that cheating was involved in this. Let it go, guys. Huge loss for us but we will persevere.

Just to be clear...... You are dogging on a season when NU's most prolific QB was out for most of the season, AND played injured in the UCLA game; when freakish injuries depleted an O-line that was supposed to be a strength, when the starting lineup wasn't determined until game time. Oh, and that average Georgia team that you diminished was a nine point favorite in the game. Got it.
