  1. Cally rolled the dice on both Brandon Jackson and Marlon Lucky in the same arena that BO would be rolling the dice on Oku, both Jackson and Lucky were extreme long shots to qualify academically. Brandon Jackson was not a diamond in the ruff, he was a highly rated RB that Blake pulled out of MS. So what difference would Bo be rolling the dice on the nations's number 2 rated running back, Oku, like Cally did with Lucky?? Nothing about Oku's character should be criticized by some anonymous BBS poster on any site. This is exactly the correct comparison in comparing Oku to Lucky/Jackson as all 3 have academic issues and all 3 were highly recruited players. Look at the Houston Nutt, he signed 37 and still possibly counting if Oku signs with Ole Miss. Nebraska isn't in a position not to be going after these type of talented players, they to have to roll the dice with them to since there are no longer prop 48s, which TO took advantage of.
  2. When, if ever again will there be the top 2 HS RBs in the nation so close to Lincoln?? And still haven't signed. TO, Cally would be all over BB and Oku. Even if both stated they didn't have interest in NU, they don't stop recruiting them. That's what sales is. BO is gonna have to get used to going after highly rated players/committed players to other schools and sell them on NU if he will survive. I agree coaching is a big part of the formula, but NU needs talent. Cally rolled the dice with Brandon Jackson/Marlon Lucky and they both turned out to be quality, quality players for NU. Both NFL players. Bo has to go after these type of recruits.
  3. Maybe Bo needs to "put this out there" to potential grade casualty star recruits in the future. A way to combat Texas screwing us on the prop 48 kids. Just kidding.
  4. Well the #1 running back/player (Bryce Brown) in the nation was in Omaha for a couple weeks visiting his uncle, a former Husker player, during signing day week and apparently no action. Then bam, the #1 all purpose running back (Oku) in the nation transfers to Lincoln East HS this week and again apparently no action. Cally, like him or not, would've been all over these kids. The issue with Oku is grades / test scores, you'd think Pelini would roll the dice with him and see if Oku could pull a B. Jackson/M. Lucky and qualify against all odds.
  5. As for the recent update 2 posts above, aren't there other HSs in OKie land that could offer the same things?? I thought it was posted months ago that this guy had quite an uphill battle to qualify. Seems like moving states to where you GF is probably wouldn't help, but what do I know. I do know that I was an 18 year old once and I know exactly what are on their minds!!
  6. SEC fans complaining of possible shady recruiting practices? Isn't that one of the signs of the Armageddon? Touche ARKIE Husker........that is one of the funniest things I've heard yet. Sidenote: ARHUSKER FAN, went down to Harrison, AR a few years back, my first time in the Ozarks, I live here in wide open plains land, Colorado/Nebraska, when I woke up from the nights drive to find myself there, I thought I was in a jungle. You can't see anywhere and it took me days for the claustrophobia to wear off. Trees everywhere, it is a jungle and the craziest roads I've ever been on.
  7. This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've read in a long time! What are you a Longhorn booster? Or do you just enjoy the taste of TU's ass? I'm tired of fans acting as if NU is the bastard stepchild of the Big 12. Without the Huskers there would not be a Big 12 conference. I'm gonna stop now cause I feel like flaming the $h!# out you for this one! First of all I live here in the state of Colorado, transplanted from the western panhandle of Nebraska. I am as big as a Husker fan as the rest of you and as I see Texas plates all over this state, each time I see one on the highway, down whorns single comes out my driver's window, I HATE TEXAS. I am just much much more realistic in point a view of where Nebraska stands in this conference-it ain't the Big 8 anymore and this ain't the 70s, 80s, 90s, this is 00s where $$$$$ and TV sets rule CFB. NU IS the bastard stepchild of this conference, they were the only 1 not to bow down to Texas. Who won the fight?? How did all the rules end up?? Where are the conference head quarters? How fast did TO split?? Where is the conference championship game about to be permanently moved to (Dallas)? I think you have that messed up, without Texas ($$$$ and TV Sets) there would be no Big 12. Add Notre Dame into the equation. Without Nebraska in the Big 12, Texas moves on and adds TCU or somebody else from the state in a heart beat. For all intensive purposes though without the Big 12, NU is on the lost lagoon, No conference. Tell me what pull NU has in this conference?? Moderate $$$, smallest state population at 1.7 million, the Volleyball team and John Cook?? This is exactly what I was going for. Texas will not be out done on just about anything related to money and exposure. One would think by now they would've secured the rights to a major network contract for the Big 12s football games. They need to go beat up on Notre Dame and kick them out of their contract with NBC so the Big 12 has exclusive rights on that network. I suppose it's just a matter of time.
  8. Bad move on many levels. First, and I cannot say whether these statistics are accurate anymore, but the numbers I heard a few years back is that student athletes who redshirt have a 40% greater likelihood of graduating than do student athletes who do not redshirt. This alone makes the case a done deal. If anything, I'd like to go the other way and say all athletes should redshirt. Second, players develop at different rates and adjust to college at different rates -- a redshirt year of acclimation is as well a good thing. Third, and this is not centered so much on the individuals, but on the team --- roster management is much easier when you have redshirts to work with. I agree. Ask the ACC how they like Jim Grobe redshirting his entire classes?? Especially ask FSU fans and their annual top 10 recruiting classes how much they like Wake Forrest.
  9. Why would this get moved?? I am a Nebraska football fan and this has everything to do with watching Nebraska football on television. The TV gig NU/Big 12/Texas currently has is crap. Texas is apart of the Big 12 correct?? Texas runs this conference, if they wanted NU out of this conference it would happen in a heart beat. TV deals are based on 1 thing only, $$$$$$. Texas has a lot in case you didn't know. I think they have a little bit more then Notre Dame. That's why I brought his topic up because the TV contract The Big 12 is tied too, SUCKS!! Texas happens to be apart of this, they pull the strings.
  10. So is this waiting game gonna become a trend with these top kids?? One thing, they must be cocksure confident about their abilities because wherever they go that team ain't gonna play 2 had touch when they get to camp. In the 90s I remember reading FSU signing prima donna QBs one after the other. Like clockwork the Noles defense would tear a QB's shoulder up or blow their knee out in fall camp. This was back when college football actually hit people and there was no such thing as green QB jersey's in practice.
  11. I thought surely by now Texas would set this conference up with a primo network deal on par with the contract the Big 10 has with ESPN/ABC. Not yet. The Big 10 has their plush deal with ESPN/ABC, the SEC has CBS, why hasn't Texas moved their big, fat nasty weight around and bullied Notre Dame off of NBC or set up some sort of exclusive deal with Fox?? You'd figure they'd have done it by now, nobody can bully Texas, are they gonna set something up or what? This is their conference, were all here for the ride. I know a couple UT fans that are passed the boiling point of watching the Whorns on versus. They see it as the SEC has CBS, the Big 10 ESPN/ABC, the Big 12 should have an exclusive Fox Sports package deal, or kick Notre Dame off of NBC. The remaining conferences can fight for the scraps. Are there any TV/Media guys that post here??
  12. Injuries derailed Deangelo's career. This year present, 2009, NU hasn't seen a more talented runner since Deangelo Evans-IMO. Deangelo Evans is now a sports agent. A very ironic twist to a superstar athlete. Very humbling. Where are they now, D. Evans
  13. Thanks for posting the bulk of the article in the post here at Huskerboard. I try not to ever hit that site. Can't support Espn. I have noticed more so then ever people are pimping their sites all over the college football message boards trying to squeeze every last nickle out of CFB throughout the off season.
  14. I know nothing of the kid but what's listed here, can anyone say Brooke Berringer number 2 ?? Still saddened to this day that Brooke was taken 2 days before being drafted. Remember listening to talk radio here in Denver that the Broncos were looking to pick him up in the 2nd or 3rd round. He did very well at the NFL combine.
  15. Not all of them.......Cally had a very, legit chance to win the Big 12 in 2007. That OU game/ missed opportunity was pissed away in the opening series when Purify fumbled. NU had enough talent and IMO should've won that game. Don't mean to threadjack.
  16. [quote name='Danimal' date='Feb 5 2009, 10:35 PM' post='414032' As far as wr goes it does seem weird that we have trouble getting in on bigtime high school guys. Hopefully we reverse that trend in '10. It's not weird to me, did Gilmore recruit anybody this year?? Has he ever?? Over the years NU has taken just about anybody they've wanted from Wichita, Gilmore's from Wichita and NU hasn't landed one player from there in a long time. There's been ample opportunities for Gilmore to land players from that city, no dice.
  17. Don't bash XXXX recruit as much as you should Rivals/Scout/Espn. They are leech and scum. How they manage to pull the wool over on these kids and their families I do not know. Exploitation is exploitation. Whether it be 1 man or a corporation. I love this line: “We’ve got to the point where a handler or a street agent starts a Web site to charge money for an update,” said Tom Luginbill, the national recruiting director for ESPN and Scouts Inc. “I’m not in line with that. I think that is a precedent that could become very scary and very ugly.”
  18. Love how that paper's site lists individually each south school......then in the Other Category, Big 12 North signings Surprised they even added the North schools. I'm sorry the state of Texas rubs me raw. Wouldn't mind in the least if Mexico took back the entire state.
  19. I thought the Gooners stated this kid is going nowhere but to JUCO. Those 5 lavish recruiting trips and all the attention he's milking out will seem like a far, far cry away when he's in a Kansas JUCO. For some reason, and I have no info regarding this kid and can't predict the future, seems like this is his swan song to never be heard from again. I say this because I've seen this countless times throughout the years following recruiting, you never hear form them again.
  20. Too many of these visits can't be good for his JUCO work right?? I take it he has a full load this semester if he's got 18 or so credits to go this summer time?? Don't mean to hex us, would love to see him sign AND qualify for NU, but didn't Joseph Townsend need a but load of JUCO credits over a summer period as well. Doh-sorry.
  21. I heard that same rumor. Perplexing knowing that he's Fabian's cousin. You'd think Fabian would rattle Latravis' noggin a little bit and talk some sense into him. Fabian is a little guy for the Ravens, 185, but he's still a pretty tough tackler as a true cover corner for Baltimore. He was a tough guy here at NU too. Maybe Latravis needs to red shirt next season to get with the program and if need be, switch to D-End where his speed and athleticm would be a welcome site on the D-line for the 2010, 2011 seasons. Heard he has the prototypical NFL body but plays like Jane deal. Hate to say that. Just the opposite of Lawrence.
  22. I got no info for you Duck, but looks like you're feeling the wrath of 1 Slick Rick Neuweasel and 1 Slick Rick Dan Hawkins 1B. Those 2 guys can sell some slop, even if they can't coach worth a lick. I thought Belotti and Nike U could sell some slop?? I personally give Slick Rick at UCLA 2-3 years before Almighty Pete cries the violation foul card and UCLA is on probation, so don't worry about it. NU recruits in Cali to, against the Ducks a lot of times. Seeing Oregon go into the Midwest to get skill guys is a bit puzzling. I guess NU and the other Midwest schools better get used to the Ducks recruiting here. (I love NU, but if Bryce Brown is my kid and Oregon continues to run the offense they ran the past couple years, I strongly think about sending him to Oregon to run the ball in that offense. The proof is in the pudding, the RB is gettin the ball. Shannon's got that kid and his mentor brainwashed good. There's no way in hell I'd send my kid to go play in that offense, I don't care if it's an NFL offense, I'd want my kid playing in an established offense where the RB shines and the O-line is established.) As for your WR recruiting problems, similar to NU's even though NU has been a passing team, what I've seen of Oregon is a spread option running team (NU should be running this offense in my personal opinion, I love your offense and Floridas). If I was a fan of Oregon, which I really don't care for Nike U, I would be stoked to see which direction your O is going. No team in your league runs this offense and it will be tough to prepare for. I've seen this offense for many, many years. Can't you see the writing on the wall with Frost coaching your WR's?? Unfortunately if you want star power at the WR recruiting slots, you might want to forget about it as PAC 10 schools, CU and others will negative recruit the hell out of Oregon stating all they will be doing is blocking with Frost Coaching them. You may not like it, but watch your offense in the future, check out this . Not exactly like your offense, but very, very similar concepts with the spread game. TO's offense in 97, the one Frost ran was a precursor to the spread o Oregon and florida runs today. I hope you didn't fall in love with Oregon's passing game like you may have been brought up on, but how many championships has any northern school won passing the ball?? As for the Dawkins kid, Bo may have whiffed on him. Just because a skill guy plays in the state of Nebraska or Kansas with lower HS competition level doesn't mean jack at the college game. All the kids in Cali, Texas and Florida get all the pub, and deservedly so, but if Frost saw something on tape he liked or when he talked to the kid, I wouldn't down play it. Frost played with/against the elite of the elite athletes in college football, he also was one. I wouldn't worry about it and trust the coach, Frost will coach the kid up and DB's will hate to face him.
  23. Wonder how those Sooner fans feel about this little nugget, the 2008 NCAA Graduation Success Rate for BCS Football Programs. Ahhh, they could care less what they're football players do after school. 1. Notre Dame 94% 2. Stanford 93 T3. BC 92 T3. Duke 92 T3. Northwestern 92 6. Vanderbilt 91 7. Wake Forest 83 8. 24. Recruiting wise, again Ekeler is a STUD!! He can sell anyone!! A recruiter! Ek went up against a very good one at ASU, Matt Lubick. Son of Sonny at CSU.
  25. (Holy crap. I think those True girls are going to hook up.) So still weighing his options? Sounds like he's interested in a school where he has a really good of playing almost immediately. Either that or Sarkisian's pulling some more monkey business. Sarkisian is already committing recruiting violations left and right at Washington. Guess he's finding out he's not at USC anymore. Has to make you wonder all that goes on at SC??? What are the realistic possibilities that the kid qualifies anyhow?? 18 credits or whatever are a TON for a summer semester. One time I tried taking 6 classes in a spring semester, not again. Maybe he pulls it off, good luck to him.
