  1. That's exactly what I have in mind. WOW that would be fun to watch with the power up the gut with Castille the shifty speed back of Helu and then the very fast slot guy. That sounds pretty damn exciting to me. I still think we should run a formation with our QB (whoever that may be) in the shotgun, Q and Helu to the right and left, with Mendoza in the slot. That formation could be deadly with so many different directions to take it. We didn't run many two back shotgun sets this year, so that could be a force to deal with in the the first few games of the season. Most teams have to look at the previous years' films and go off of that during the first part of the season, so it'd be nice to add in some formations that nobody has seen a lot of.
  2. i don't think they even had a sell out till two years ago and even when i was last there it was still fairly empty twords the top. I do not think that is true, and you are missing the point. We are not Nebraska, OU, etc (see earlier), but you do not get to start there. That is life, you build. You guys could afford some crappy years, because you have generations of people now who live and breather your football. If you sucked for a long time, it could go away, but that is hard to do when you are Nebraska. Just do not assume we cannot improve. We do have very nice facilities, a lot of recruits seem sold on them. They are a little smaller than NUs, but they are newer and football only, which I understand is another difference. At KU now, The gameday environment is really very nice, and the crowds are good. We now have the makings of a very good fan base. Also, the fact that you sold out 30 years ago is cool, but it makes little difference on what the gameday environment feels like. You do have an awesome environment, but the fact that our games were sold out when I was a baby is not selling that many recruits. The fact that it is cool probably sells more, and it is getting pretty cool in Lawrence, so that is progress for us. We are not likely to out tradition you anytime soon, but that is not how we can win on Saturdays. We don't want to be you, recruits who will only play for a ;legendary program won't pick us right now anyway, so playing the "tradition" that is not a good strategy for us over the next 10 years. We want to be a better Kansas than we were, and in that regard we are progressing mightily. It's a lot like life, you make yourself better and don't try to be what your not. We can be a good football school,a nd already are proving that. No question for it to be credible it must survive longer than it has. No one really knows for sure if that will happen, but our investments in the program help make that a lot more likely. If any of you boys want to come tailgate next year, if my company does not ship me by that time I am happy to host you. Even Bruno, as long as he is not overly fabulous. It's too bad many of you cannot relate to what the baseline is for comparing and seeing an improvement, but I hope it never returns for you to see.... "You guys could afford some crappy years" - we've had a few pretty bad years (by our standards) and to be honest I wouldn't wish that on anyone, including KU. I don't agree that the games that were sold out 30 years ago do not matter now. The sold out streak is who we are as a fanbase. Almost every recruit, when asked why they chose NU, says something about the passionate fans, the facilities, the coaches, and the education. I do agree that KU has been on the rise. I think it's good for the Big 12 (especially the north). I'm all for it. Really there is only one program, Colorado, that I dispise (no it's not a rivalry no matter what they say). The only concern is that history has a bad habit of repeating itself - hopefully KU can overcome its history. I agree That we would want KU to improve and be seriuos competition year in and year out. That is very good for the big 12 and espeacially the North as stated above. What I can't understand is why any other teams fan base would question NE fan base or our knowledge of the game and the history of the program. I understand that there are a few people that get a little cocky that is going to happen anywhere you go, but the majority of the people here aren't that way. I for one enjoyed watch KU the last few seasons and cheered them on. Just not against us. That in my opinion is the way it should be. As far as who is going to win well obviously we will be underestimated and I hope so it just makes it that much sweeter when we stomp all over the other teams. It will be a tough one and no push over in my opinion, but I think we also could come away with a huge victory there. I don't like putting Nebraska on a pedestal above other Big 12 programs, but as much as I want to see KU do well in the Big 12, they need to prove that they can have consistency. KU, MU, CU, etc., always have a few good years with a good run and then they slip back into mediocrity. I really hope that KU can at least keep something steady going.
  3. Well somebody is going to hee and haw for Notre Dame to be up there to. I know this ranking system isn't based on last years season, but it's amazing to me how a team can be thoroughly worked the entire season, have a good showing against a poor Hawaii team, and now suddenly people are jumping back on the Notre Dame band wagon. Nebraska, on the other hand, still gets little to no recognition for anything except maybe a few seconds on Sportscenter every couple of weeks.
  4. Just watched the RB's v LB's vid also and I was very impressed with Rex. I'd have to agree, he was by far the best back out there. The backfield will be solid in a few years with Rex and Trey! Rex is also very mature for his age. I really enjoyed seeing the Nike camp video (checked it out a few weeks ago on rivals) and he looked very promisng. As for the current thread, however, I'm very happy we have so many talented backs next year. Talented backs means competition for playing time, and competition amongst each other only makes em better.
  5. I still think Castille is the better back if he can just hold onto the ball (which he did well in the Gator Bowl, granted that was just one game). Castille has speed and power. Helu has speed and elusiveness. It's tough to choose either or, but personally I like Castille much more.
  6. Are you sure about the 7? You're free to vote for Brook, but how does it make sense to say he was responsible for getting us to the NC games, when Tommie was 10X more responsible for getting us there, especially in '93 and '95? Brook helped, doesn't make him the best QB, IMO. Thats what made Brook so darn good. Tommie Frazier was getting all of this hype of being a great football player which is was he was a darn good option QB and had two great seasons before hand to and once he went down from his knee injury, Brook had to step up and fill in some HUGE shoes. Nobody expected Brook to do the things he did and remember Brook was the one who struggled against Wyoming but yet brought us back to win that game (Remember Wyoming was up 21-7 at one point in the 2nd quarter). He also had a collapse lung during that game. Also Brook had to win a big game in Norman Oklahoma that same year two where if I'm correct we won 13-3 because Brook scored the winning TD. Brook also beat Coloroda in Lincoln who was ranked #2 and we were #3. Thats alot of pressure for a QB to do all of that and still win games while filling in the shoes of Tommie Frazier. Well, , kudos to Brook! Wasn't TF out because of the blood clot issue that year? I don't get how you can consider a guy who played 7 or so games as compared to the rest of the players on this list? Yeah, Berringer was good but as for overall ability he doesn't compare with the greatest.
  7. I guess this is a poll on our favorite Husker QB and not the All - Time best. Frazier was ridiculously good no doubt, but in terms of overall skill I don't think you could necessarily give it to him. He could throw the ball, but we all know he was no pocket passer. The best thing about Frazier was his running ability and his ability to keep plays alive. I think in overall terms of "All-Time" QB, you have to vote Tagge because of his ability to run but also throw the ball.
  8. The topic isn't who is a better pro NFL QB, but rather who is a better college QB. And what good is arm strength anyways if you can't put the ball where you want it or avoid a sack? Arm strength is very important. Not so much as accuracy, but it's still very important.

  10. I think we will see more frequent subs this year. The staff was limited in subs this past season due to the lack of depth, there simply weren't a whole lot of options. Some of that was self-imposed with all of the redshirts, but that was a calculated gamble Bo and Co. made and it looks like it is going to pay off. They were planning for the future which is something I'm very happy to see. I mean, I'm all for playing a guy as a true freshman if he is playing phenomenally (Ahman Green), but if a player could benefit from a year in the system as a redshirt then I'm all for it. It can only help us.
  11. Previously bad coaching (pre-2008), an inconsistent offensive line, and injuries plagued Lucky. I'm glad that he had a great game and has picked up some kudos heading into the draft season.
  12. As long as Notre Dame doesn't leap frog us like I saw in another pre-season ranking, then I'm fine.
  13. We won't know until September, unfortunately.
  14. Exactly. Defense has a trickle down effect. If the d-line can supply pressure on the quarterback, this give the secondary and linebacking corps time to get into good position and make plays. It all starts up front, so we need to be thankful for our returning starters. Is it bad that I can all ready see some headlines for next season..."Who will replace Suh?"
  15. He's probably transferring because he wants playing time. It's not like we are losing the guy to USC or some high caliber powerhouse school, it's Mcneese St. I wish all Nebraska players would just be passionate like Beau Davis was..just wishful thinking
  16. Can't wait for the 2009 season. I haven't been as excited for Husker football since the beginning of the 2007 season. What a let down... I'm just proud of our boys and confident seasons like 2007 will never occur again.
  17. What is a quarterback without great receivers? Every team needs their play making receivers despite good the quarterback is. Better quarterback than Ganz? Maybe. More athletic? You've been drinking too much koolaid. Ganz ran a faster 40 yard he was much more mobile than Keller.
  18. Is optimism dead under Husker fans? You guys make it seem like it's a shoe in for a loss. Given our coaching history over the last several years, you can't expect Nebraska to remain weak against quality opponents. I mean who expected Texas Tech to go down the way it did? Plus, most ESPN analysts had us slotted to lose the Clemson game. Thanks to Callahan and Co., ESPN analysts were always 100% correct when picking Husker games, they finally got one wrong.

  20. At least it's not the season opener. It will give us time to get things clicking the way we want. I still think we'll lose this game, but it's going to be hard fought. Their offense still won't be very explosive and it will be a gritty match.
  21. I realize its a tough time for some people right now, but do you really think its going to stop people from paying $5-12 with free admission for kids from going to Memorial Stadium? I would anticipate a similar turn out to last year... sure we aren't breaking in a new coach, but there will be the qb battle and the season ended with a lot of excitement. Some of you guys are forgetting that it's more than just ticket fees. Some people traveled from all over the country for the spring game last year ( i know a few that came here for it ). They had to pay for food, gas, and hotels to come watch it. The people that live close will make the drive, but people who live long distances may not.
  22. I couldn't agree more. I remember hearing something early in the season about the coaches having to push him to work harder because he wasn't showing up that well in practice. He seemed like the type of guy who just expected to be great, and didn't think he needed to work for it. I don't agree with the assumption that "a career under Pelini would have made him a Husker great". As far as the offense is concerned, we have no idea how great some of our players may become. We can expect some defense trophy award winners, but the offense still needs to prove itself. As far as I'm concerned, he was an over-hyped kid who didn't work hard enough to really make himself as explosive as a Reggie Bush. It's sad, but he made his choices and injuries really nailed him this year. I wish him the best of course, but I don't think he played to his potential.
  23. The other thing to realize is that because winter conditioning has started, you can expect each linemen to add 10-15 pounds of muscle by August and optimistically, maybe even the Spring Game. Hopefully our line will be much more powerful and dominant with that extra muscle. And does anybody know, Ricky Henry is a junior right now but he redshirted, so does this mean he only has one more year of eligibility left or two if he becomes a 5th year senior?
  24. The stretch run is an extremely powerful running play. The problem is that our o-line the past couple of years never seemed like it was able to block for it, so it rarely helped out. I'd love to see the stretch play actually work.
