  1. Omaha World Herald had a short story on BJax......He is certain that he is going to play, and is confident the hand will not be an issue. Let's hope he is right !!!
  2. I agree BRI, I too love to watch this offense when it is clicking.... It all comes down to the O-line. If Taylor has adequate time, allowing his WR time to run routes, the offense is lethal...... The underneath crossing routes are unstoppalbe if time allows.....
  3. Today on sports radio, a practice report said that Glenn doesn't expect to play much, if at all.... He thought he may get used on the goal line if at all...... Jackson has the cast off, but must wear a splint.... BC said that it would be interesting to see how he handles contact this week, but was sure the training staff would do a nice job of protecting the wrist...Lucky will need "shots" to help loosen up back prior to game, and Wilson was jogging lightly, limping today.... The backfield is a HUGE unknown at this point.
  4. You are telling me that Florida didn't have as much speed as teams today? How about Tennessee...Heck, most of their starting defense start in the NFL.... Those two teams had as much speed as most teams do today! To defende the option, you need DISCIPLINE as much as speed. Yes, FSU and Miami were able to stop NU with speed, but at that time NU didn't have speed on offense !!! Once, TO got tremendous athletes, speed wasn't such an issue... There are plenty of extremely fast athletes out there to run the option offense..... Why can't the offense cause problems with their speed, just as the defense? I believe NAVY had a tremendously successful season running the option, and they don't even get to recruit the fantastic athlete. They must play with guys who chose and qualify for the military academy ! I bet with the right mix of athletes, they could easily be undefeated.... I was not trying to start a battle with you.... I am just saying that discussing the option doesn't necessarily mean we are living in the past.... We are all well aware that the TO days are gone, and will always be, that was not the topic at hand.
  5. You are right on dedhed..... I really drug my feet about the Dallas/10:30 thing too.... We travel all over to watch NU and this trip just isn't attractive at all..... In fact, I am going because it in Nebraska football. I am not even looking at it as a "bowl" trip. To me, it will be like traveling to Lubbock or Manhatten. Nonetheless, it will still be disheartening to see very few fans.
  6. I agree 'skersfan...... This is the best opportunity to show the nation again, that NU fans are the best... I believe that many Nebraskans used the Big 12 championship as their "big trip for the season". It will be embarassing if we only have 14-15 thousand in Dallas. Dallas is one of the "easiest" destinations in many years... The forcast is great (50 degrees or above all weekend)... it is a short drive (10 hours) and tickets are cheap!!! I hope that we get a lot of fans... Texas is a recruiting hot-bed as all of you know, so if we show up with minimal fans, it will NOT impress recruits. Especially after the coaches have told them about teh greatest fans in college football.

Holy crap.... is anyone else getting sick and tired of the same ol' song and dance before EVERY bowl game thus far.... and EVERY half-time show... I get so pissed at listening to these clowns talk about USC and Michigan... I have watched most of the bowl coverage, but not all, have I missed anything on the Cotton Bowl? You have two great programs competing in the Cotton bowl, and these dumb asses can't even mention it !!! Damn these idiots !!!!
  8. I am going to Dallas, but I'm getting concerned that the crowd will be very disappointing..... Local papers and sports talk radio are really talking about this game being not very well attended... has anyone heard how many NU fans are expected. The university has only sold approx. 9500 of it's alloted tickets....
  9. Here is my two cents: Oklahoma State over Alabama...... Bama in coaching transition California over Texas A&M...... just a gut feeling Rutgers over KSU....... probably closer than many think Missouri over Oregon State.....Can't take "Beavers" seriosly Minnesota over Tech..... can't out guess Tech Texas over Iowa..... I really hope so.....being from Iowa, I can't stand the Hawkeyes Nebraska over Auburn... NU matches up very well vs Auburn Oklahoma over Boise State.... So much attention on Boise State for OU to over look Big 12 will go 5-3 in this year's bowl.
  10. This is probably for the members from Texas or if anyone has gone to the Cotton Bowl before... Do you need a parking pass, or is it highly suggested to pick one up. I live an hour from Lincoln, so if anyone says that I should get one, I will find time to drive over and pick one up. Thanks for your help. What about tailgating in the lots..... People (security) pretty cool, or are they pretty strict?
  11. Nice info. Big Red Fan....thanks Busch deserves a lot of credit here, along with Watson .... This staff has been able to recruit.... I just hope that we don't see any last second defectors.... This class is shaping up to be maybe the best class that BC has put together.....
  12. Big Red Iowan........ relax !!!!! If you read 90% of these posts, no one says that they want the old offense back.... I believe the question was "will the option work today?"...... I emphatically think that it would work, but by saying that, it doesn't necessarilly imply that I want the old Nebraska back...... I think that most people have "moved on"...... We have BC, a new system, and new beliefs...... it is great to get different type of athletes in here.... I am just not sure why whenever we talk about TO or the "good ol' days" or the option, people have to instantly jump to BC defense....not many, if any of these posts even mentioned disastisfaction with the current system....
  13. Most of you are going to disagree with me, but the option would still work today...... If Tom Osborne was the HC, there is absolutely NO DOUBT in my mind that NU would still be the dynasty it was..... The option can and does work !!!! The reason why it fell apart at NU is because Frank could not recruit.... TO would still be able to bring "top notch" athletes to fit his system !!!!! If you try to run the option with lesser talent than Crouch, Frost, Frazier........ Phillips, Green, Mackovicas at FB, then the system doesn't work (ie Solich).... As a football coach, I know that the more difficult you make it for an opponent to prepare for you, you have "won" the practice week...... In today's West Coast, spread NCAA, teams would have NO chance to prepare for the option vs TO caliber athletes..... It is impossible for a team to practice for only a week to develop the discipline it takes to stop the well run option...... Now, under Solich, with lesser talent, you don't need as much discipline, because overall team speed on defefnse can stop the leser athlete. Does this mean that I want it back.....not necessarily..... I like BC's offense... It is fun to watch and we always have the opportunity to pick up the 3rd and 10, and the chance to score quickly in a come from behind chance.
  14. no kidding.... I am pissed. I have been to many bowl games and away games... I just feel more comfortable having my tickets is hand..... So, like a dumb ass, I spent $90 a ticket through UNL....When I ordered them, I asked for them to tell me where the seats are, but they couldn't for some reason.... I just received them, and they are end zone seats, 35 rows up...... I am pissed at myself, becuase on this board, I could have easily gotten 20-45 yd line seats, for probably less money......

    OT Dan Hoch

I have seen this kid. He is a man among boys... My brother coaches a select youth baseball team in the Harlan area, and Dan played for him for 2 years. The team is for 11-12 year olds. At that age, the kid was looked as if should be a junior or senior..... When Dan was pitching, and my brother went to the mound, he would make Dan step off of the mound, and my brother would stand on the mound, so he could talk to him face to face.... funny stuff and true. He says that NU has landed a good one !!!!!! Right now though, the kid is very "soft", even Coach Bladt mentioned this..... He will be a stud once he matures a bit.
  16. You know it KC.... I will be there.... I wish that I was traveling with my Husker Crew, but this time I made arrangements late, and will be traveling with a KSU and OU fan....they are going just to watch the Cowboys on Sunday..... I can't wait to catch up with the Husker crew in Dallas
  17. I will be happy to join in.....I have been to many bowl games and have enjoyed tailgating with opponents...... Believe it or not, Tennessee fans were very classy, and I have tailgated a few times with them.... Just let us know time and place. Thanks for the invite/idaa.
  18. I think Grix is a huge liability as much as anyone..... but I think he will be in there until he graduates... I believe that Thenarse came to NU more as a safety than a CB..... this is probably the reason he isn't gtting the reps.....Hopefully, this spring, he will mature as a cover CB, and compete for the starting job.... I understand the philosophy of "we can't do any worse", but that is not the case...... If you put a kid out on an island that doesn't grasp the scheme, you will have NO shot at covering, and guys will be wide open.... At least, in most cases, Grix, is somewhere close.... If anyone actually "watched" the game close, you would have noticed that on 90% of the passes caught on Grix, #4 pushed off at the point of his break... This is illegal, but never called in football.... His lack of size kills him, but he at least attempts to be agressive.... On the 60 + TD pass in the 1st qt.... Grix had very good coverage.... don't be afraid to tip your hat to Thompson, who threw that ball absolutely great.... something he hasn't done all year..... I am just as concerned about Jones, who came in as a "hot-shot" JUCO talking trash before the USC game, and he is horrible...... He cant cover and he cant tackle !!!!! He is so unsure of himself, that he will let the WR run to him instead of forcing the issue on a tackle....
  19. Hey, I love the Huskers.....more than most.... but my goodness....how the heck is Ruud 1st team all big 12... I just don't understand it..... ZT deserves this and everything that he will get, but Ruud can't tackle !!!!! Hell, no one on this defense can tackle...... Shanle being HM is a mockery of the whole system... I wish that Shanle played in the early 90's when I was at NU... It would have given me the incentive to walk on... Hell, I made better plays in the streets, after mid-night, in the rain, dodging cars, drunk, playing nerf football.... I can't wait for this kid to graduate !!!!!! BJax is 2nd team, which is deserving.... Moore is 2nd team.....Grix is HM, which is once again, laughable.... Bradley is HM..... Are you telling me that Thaddeus Washington from CU is HM and Ruud is 1st team..... I hate CU with a passion and love the Huskers, but this is a joke... Go Big Red.
  20. Rumors.....Rumors.....Rumors.... and we will hear more over the next few weeks/months I do believe that Bowman = gone Purify = gone (grades)...so he will enter BJax = staying.... better offensive line will up stock Blake = gone to NC
  21. Let's hope that he finds his way to class, or he will not play next year anyway....... There was and IS a reason he was at a JUCO..... academics doesn't appear to be his strong point or point of interest.... He may be gone, but due to academic casualty !!!! C'mon MO, get with it !!!!!!
  22. The latest that I have seen/heard cbs sportsline has NU vs Auburn in the Cotton (obviously picking OU in Big 12) Local sports talk radio this afternoon had NU vs Arkansas in Cotton.....possibly Auburn The host said that he would rather see NU play in the Cotton vs SEC team....much more respect there, instead of playing in Fiesta vs Boise St. His opinion was that Boise gives NU a "no-win" situation.... We would probably be ranked well below Boise, yet we would be favored..... If NU wins, "it was supposed to" and if NU gets beat, "it was by a WAC team. I still think if we don't go to Fiesta bowl, NU will land in Holiday, with Texas in Cotton and AM in Alamo.
  23. Hate to be the bearer of "rumor", but met with family today as did most of us, and the word "inside" the Lincoln Journal Star Bowman is gone..... I have a lot of family that work at the LJS and are usually in the "know" and they were confident he is gone...... supposedly already told BC...which would make the ISU tailgating incident believable...... The rumor is Thenarse to move to Grix's spot and Grix move to FS for Shanle next season..... I think JOnes would be a better FS, but that is the word on the street..... Take it for what it is worth......RUMOR........ I am not saying that I totally believe this, just telling some info..
  24. Hey, how about the opposite..... I ditched a chick for a Husker game..... The night my future wife and I were on our first date, NU was playing Troy Aikman and the Bruins.... at half time, UCLA was leading by at least 3 touchdowns..... I go pissed off and went for a drive to cool down...... left her sitting with my brother the whole second half.... I am now a driver's ed teacher, so the whole driving around to cool off thing isn't very smart... She stuck with me, and has traveled nation wide in all kinds of weather supporting the Huksers to this day.....What a keeper !
