  1. This is exactly what irked me about the previous staff and another of the key reasons I was just done with them. For all the talent we've brought in on the OL since Bo took over, for whatever reason it never translated into dominating OLs. Our best OL may have been 2011 that featured two walk-on starters. That just reeks of inability to develop your linemen. Can't wait to see what this guy can do. Seems like a tough son of a gun!
  2. ... because there are a lot of idiots on this forum... Tressel was a fantasy... and Frost would have been a huge gamble. At least Bo had considerable experience in the role of DC. Frost is still on Helfrich's short leash. He's little more than the Papuchis of Oregon (albeit with a much better mentor). I'm sorry, while we have the fortune of a few decades of great history (you know, Minnesota once had that too, before most of us were born)... we're no Alabama or Ohio State. There's no Saban or Meyer who's going to come on board here, because they know they can't recruit to the level they need to easily win here. That said, Riley has done some noteworthy things, with a team which is another notch, or two... below where we are, in terms of recruiting appeal alone. I would FAR rather see an experienced coaching staff (far more experienced than Bo/company), one which has so much respect, they were even considered by a number of elite programs, one which HAS won games against top 10 opponents, with inferior talent, a history of identifying/developing that inferior talent into NFL drafts, etc... I would much rather see them come on board at Nebraska. They could be a flop... every new hire is a crap shoot. But I like the odds way better, than some of the numb skull suggestions that so many have suggested here. Now Riley is going to bring on/retain the guys he's comfortable with, thinks can get the job done. I'm pretty certain, he knows far more in what to look for in terms of qualified candidates, than anyone here. I suggest everyone buckle up, take it all in, and hang on for the ride.. all the whining/complaining/second guessing in the world, isn't going to change the outcome. Great post... +1. Assembling a staff is tough. It's not just as simple as hiring the best recruiter at each position. You assemble dream teams in between seasons in free agency on your Xbox. In real life, Riley probably isn't comfortable hiring a lot of guys if he doesn't know even if they are fantastic coaches. The guy DOES have to assemble a staff with some semblance of chemistry, after all. He needs like minded guys working towards the same goal. Very excited about our new coach!
  3. They are maybe THE most pass happy attack in CFB. His O-Line is consistently top 5 to top 10 in Pass protection. Didn't OSU set a record for pass attempts in a game this year?not sure about that but it will be interesting who he picks for an OC so we can get an idea of what kind of offense to expect, personally I don't think Riley having a June Jones like game plan will work very well in the cold weather big 10 He had two NFL QBs running the show in Sean Glennon and Sean Mannion. The guy tailors his offense to the personnel he has. He was much more run heavy when he had Steven Jackson at OSU. I wouldn't worry about it.
  4. Nothing's confirmed yet. We've got a couple Oregon sources saying Banter, Cav, Brennan, Bray, and Read to NU in some capacity. No titles announced yet though.
  5. There is way too much negativity around here lately. I thought we WANTED a new coach?

I don't care if they do that. Our LB and OL play and development has been atrocious. From what I've read and heard, OSU's has not.

  6. I love how we have suddenly shifted the goalposts from "coaches learning to be coordinators on the job" to "coaches learning to be successful coordinators with resources on the job." It seems like we're always just going to find something new to complain about. We probably will.
  7. I laughed my ass off watching this guy coach. I loved it too. This is the kind of attitude our OL has been missing for SOOOOO long... Can't wait to get this guy to town!
  8. So Riley was going to fire him from OSU but since he got a new job, all is forgiven? Something doesn't sound right here Many thought he was going to be this year's sacrificial lamb. New location and no sacrifice needed it would appear. I hope the report is wrong, but Lindsey Schnell was The Oregonian's OSU beat writer a few years back. She's not the schmo some here think she is. She also never said he was coming here as a DC.
  9. DING DING DING...we have a winner. There are folks so anti-Bo that when a potentially s****y hire is staring them in the face, they choose not to see it. I was willing to give the Riley hire a chance, provided the right coordinators and staff showed up under him--again, our AD said money wasn't a concern. But when Riley is bringing his defensive buddies from OSU with him...the same ones that choked against Eastern Washington, NOT Wisky, and the same ones the OSU fans wanted run out on a rail for incompetence...it's becoming clear this is quickly becoming a s****y hire and the mistake to end all mistakes with this progam. Yes, I am more excited about anyone's first year than I would be for a Bo Pelini eighth. And that would hold if the entire OSU staff came to Lincoln and brought their entire recruiting class with them. Bo Pelini was judged on his performace as the Nebraska Coach. Riley is being judged on speculation, since he's only been the HC here for two days. The two things are totally different. Also, before you Bo Pelini supporters get too critical of Riley's staff, let's remember who was on Bo's staff: His brother A golf coach An intern Another intern You may not like Riley bringing coaches from OSU, but at least they are experienced coaches. Sweet post. +1. Don't forget Bo also replaced the total ineptitude that is Barney Cotton with a guy he lured away from the appeal of high school coaching.
  10. Black was the color of my Harley-Davidson Deuce. Not sure what's gross about that. Edit - I've had that name for 10 years and I think I just now get what you're saying. LOL. Think in terms of your toilet bowl. But I was misinformed. Sweet ride!
  11. The USC-OSU game Jeremy posted in page 11 of the Staff thread = Wood

  12. Also, if what HANC is saying about Pearlman is true, that's really, really unfortunate. Makes me feel bad for Bo and anybody else involved in the program in any capacity during his time here. Makes Pearlman sound like a really petty jerk with an inferiority complex.
  13. I'm with BlackDeuce. Gross name, BTW. Considering the amount of leaked misinformation during the coaching search, I am not going to believe a THING (especially based on a tweet) until it's made official. But good idea for a thread, PowerT. +1 man.
  14. Everybody needs to take a breath.... And chill. Let's see what actually transpires before getting our panties all in a bunch over a bunch of "reports." Did the way the coaching search unfolded teach you nothing???
  15. Okaive had a pretty good idea, perhaps you could edit the OP to reflect all new hires? Holy crap, it's pretty easy to see who's a fan of Riley and who's not. Some of y'all want the guys head on pike before coaching his. FIRST game... Lol
  16. Minny Sker pretty much nailed it. I share his sentiments. I don't know if he's the best overall coach as far as Ws and Ls go, but I'm beginning to believe that he is the best overall fit we could've hired (culturally, leadership qualities, experience, demeanor, specializes in QB development). But again, "best" is somewhat ambiguous. I marked that we could've probably gotten Willingham, Schiano, Frost, and obviously, Riley. I don't think any of those other guys (Bielema, Briles, Patterson) would've had any strong incentive to leave their current home and come to Lincoln. I think McElwain, while a favorite of mine, was always SEC-bound and I think Tressel's just done coaching, personally.
  17. It will be awesome to see how the new staff evaluates all the current players. It will be very interesting if any new contributors emerge that were buried before... I'd imagine many will. Especially along the OL.
  18. Am I the only one who thinks Riley's pro style offense and Frost's Oregon roots make him an awkward choice as OC?

No, which is one of the many reasons I'm not happy with this hire.

There are other proven OC's out there. Hold off judgment until he gets his staff in place.

  19. Great to know! Hope we see an awesome season from JT next year! Feel much more confident about Riley maximizing his talents than Beck!
  20. Right on Skers! Feels good to say GBR and have some confidence again! One good thing about this is Bo sure left the cupboard more full OVERALL than Cally (sans Suh).
  21. I seem to get this issue when typing in default text, though I also recall it happening when doing some copy and pasting, Zoogies, so I'll be mindful of that. I generally use Firefox at home and Chrome on my phone, so IE isn't the issue. Is there a button to toggle off the Rich Text Editor when posting? If so, I will try that. I'm typing in a lot of different lines to see if I can replicate the issue. It is pretty infrequent, honestly, but annoying when it happens. I don't think I've tried refreshing it Zoogs, I'll try that next time it occurs as well.
  22. Dude, guy. Is than an OSU backpack? Let the past go! It is. I concur.
  23. I'll keep you in mind, bud. That is kind of annoying, now that I think about it.
  24. Good on you, president. FYI, for everybody who seemed irritated by the creation of a new division between Pro- or Anti-Riley, that's not what this poll was supposed to be. I should've made it more clear. This was just supposed to be an immediate reaction to the hire kind of informational poll. I worded it really, really terribly-- was in a hurry out the door. Obviously choosing sides and quarreling at this point is somewhat idiotic. I'm excited to be back to a point where we can all just support OUR team again instead of arguing over what needs to happen for its well-being. Regardless of my incompetency, it seems like most warmed up to the hire eventually. I will admit, I was SUPER underwhelmed when they announced Riley on the radio. I almost thought it was a joke. But the more I've read about this guy, the more I feel he's everything Pelini wasn't and could really be a diamond in the rough for us.
