  1. I just think he's way way over-rated. He's too small to smash people like Rozier and Phillips and guys like that did. He can't block either because he's too small. He does not have a great burst of speed needed to outrun the defense or bust thru a small hole. Helu's a little better but not much. And with Burkhead's small size he's gonna get injured over and over again as he has already shown. Sorry but we need somebody way better, bigger, stronger and faster than that dude... Alright you've got a point. Rex is too small to run people over. I think he has shown very nice burst, however, being a good north-south runner at the very least. Let's remember people... he may not be the second coming of Ahman Green, Rozier, or LP. But he might be very good for us. It is too soon to tell. He is only a true freshman and playing in one of the premier conferences in the nation. That is a tough jump to make. Hopefully, blocking and everything else will improve as he matures, and he will just become more comfortable doing what it is he does. He'll develop a better feel for what do, what cut to make in a certain situation. Although he is not huge. he reminds me of another NU RB who was not all that big... anybody love them some Pork Chop like I do? They both may be smaller, but they play with ALOT of heart.
  2. Also, Florida is in good position with Ronald Powell. I highly doubt OO would follow Powell to FL. I really do think we have a great chance hear. Like the post above says, looks like the cavalry is headed to Oregon for an in-home soon. That is a GREAT thing. Our staff does very well with in home visits. Somebody get Ek to a tattoo parlor...
  3. It is becoming apparent that although NU has added a ton of height since last season, we do not seem to be attacking with our biggest players. For example, here are stats for our three tallest players: Brian Diaz ©: 9.7 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, 1.3 blocks per game, 21.8 minutes per game Brandon Ubel (F): 6.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, .7 bpg, 21.2 mpg Quincy Hankins-Cole (F): 3.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, .2 bpg, 11.0 mpg Now, given Cole's stats might be thrown off since he is getting half the time per game of the other two. But it is becoming painstakingly obvious that our big men are still growing into their role. They will get there, I hope, but it is a process, and will take time. I'd love to see more aggressiveness, with much higher rebounding and block numbers. 4 rebounds a game from a near 7 footer in Diaz who is getting that much time are not enough. This begs the question... how much better would this team be if the 6-11 Christopher Niemann had not blown out his ACL again? Does anyone know what kind of skillset Niemann brings to the table? I have no clue on the guy, but I am not as informed as some of you. Hopefully Niemann gets a medical redshirt and can finally come back and play for us next year. Or perhaps the answer will come from outside the team. Doc has two current recruits for this years recruiting class, Kenyon McNeill and Andre Almeida. Obviously, Kenyon is a guard, but you have to love what doc has done recruiting the Southeast. He pulled Adrian Coleman out of Georgia from seemingly nowhere last year. Almeida may be a key cog in our plans for the future. He is all of 6'10" and 320 lbs. He is a true, thick post player. His 2008 JUCO stats were very nice... 13.7 ppg, 8 rpg, 3.5 bpg, and a whopping 70.5 field goal percentage. He could be a player. Also, do not forget Vander Joaquim. He did not make it with our last class, but is currently enrolled at the College of Eastern Utah, and still hopes to make it here. He is very highly thought of. That is another bonus with Doc's recruiting. Since hiring Walter Roese, we have been making nice inroads with Brazilian players (Vander and Andre). On the side note, Roburt Sallie, who was committed to NU, is now the second leading scorer for the Memphis Tigers. I REALLY wish we wouldn't have botched his enrollment at NU. We could have used him pretty well.
  4. Cmon Gixxer, give Rex some credit. AngryHusker is justified in what he said about Rex... He runs hard and hits the holes with conviction, which is exactly what we need in the kind of offense we run. He is also very shifty and also seems to just always fall forward to gain a few extra yards. I feel bad for Rex because he's had several runs this year where he's been one good move from taking it in for a long six. Roy seems the same way.
  5. Nebraska 81, Texas-Pan American 53 Associated Press LINCOLN, Neb. -- Ryan Anderson scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half to lead Nebraska past Texas-Pan American 81-53 Wednesday. Nebraska (5-1), which led by as many as 10 in the first half, struggled to put away Texas-Pan American (1-7). The Broncs cut the Husker lead to five with three minutes gone in the second half. Then Nebraska's Ray Gallegos hit a 3-pointer with 16:16 left that triggered a 22-2 Husker run. Anderson scored 11 points in the spurt, including two layups off steals and a 3-pointer. Eshaunte Jones's 3-pointer capped the run, putting the game out of reach at 67-42 with 10:39 remaining. Nebraska had Gallegos 13 points for Nebraska. Jorge Brian Diaz and Jones added 11 each. Luis Valera led Texas-Pan American with 13 points, Ben Smith added 12 and Jared Maree had 10. >>> Anderson is playing well. Would like to see more intensity from Diaz. He dropped 22 on TCU, but has been spotty to start the season. A lot to ask of a frosh, yeah, but I have high hopes for this guy. Would like to see more work, especially on the boards. 4 rebounds per game for a starting center is not up to snuff.
  6. I think Watson becomes so conservative with CG in there, it could do nothing but hurt our chances to win. I've felt like the changes made on offense for the last half of the season have been too conservative regardless of who is playing. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we are winning, but it makes Zac look like he is insecure at running the offense. It brings back fears of BC's playing-not-to-lose strategy. I think we have a chance, but I'm afraid that Zac might be afraid to take chances in fear of making a mistake. I wouldn't mind seeing CG play some snaps. He reminds me a lot of vince young, but with a bit more accuracy. Zac does look very timid making decisions on the field. Sadly, it is probably partly due to the fact that Bo and Wats get in his face and let him know when he does make a mistake. Does anyone remember the Oklahoma game, when Roy fumbled that option pitch from Zac, as we were approaching the Oklahoma endzone? It was a few plays after he bust a huge run on the OU D. When Zac went back to our sideline after that fumble, Bo and Wats ABSOLUTELY lit him up. And yes, I do think throwing Green out there, perhaps on first down, having our receivers run some simple routes (drags over the middle or in routes or something), and giving Cody a safe run/pass option may help the offense. Alas, if it were only as easy as NCAA on my xBox...
  7. Ahh, I see what you mean there. Kind of a "Longest Yard," throw the ball at the ref's junk twice in a row kinda thing, eh? Rock on.
  8. FWIW guys, Suh is also kicking the crap out of Brandon Spikes and Terrence Cody on a poll on ESPN's homepage. I don't know how long it will stay up, but the poll is "Who should win the Chuck Bednarik Award for outstanding defensive player?" Suh dominating with 50% of the vote. Cody getting 26% and Spikes getting 24%. I guess that's what happens when the best player in college foootball goes up against an overrated chubbly knock-off and an eye gouger. Suh deserves this and all the otheer awards he's up for. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/fp/flashPol...mp;pollId=81844
  9. Here's what I hope happens Saturday. I hoped to put it on the "Can Suh Cripple Colt McCoy" thread to lighten up the mood there a little, but alas, it was locked. On the first play from scrimmage, Suh blows his way thru the TU offensive line. He proceeds to grab Colt and break him cleanly in half. Injury timeout, they send out the stretcher, and eventually Colt's two halves are carried over to the TU sideline, where he proceeds to watch the rest of the game. Suh spearheads an excellent, physically played game, our boys fight hard, and eventually triumph over Texas. Suh trots over to the Texas sideline before any B12 Champs hardware is handed out. He runs over to the two halves of Colt, now sobbing at the thought of what could have been. Suh, having superpowers, uses them to heal Colt's pieces back into his old functioning body. They shake hands, hug, and become best friends after the game, going on to both star in the new "Ebony and Ivory" music video. Oh yeah, and the huskers win the Fiesta Bowl. That too. GBR!
  10. Hoorah. Regardless of whether Big Suh gets screwed by the Heisman voting politics, here's at lest one vote we know he will get. GBR!
  11. So I guess the board isn't quite done with the cody green nonsense posts..... Nope. Check the Husker Football page.
  12. This one had me thinking a little bit. Earlier in the season, I was a huge proponent of the "Start Green" plan and thought he would provide at least some spark to our offense, with his athleticism. When he failed to do that, we stuck Z Lee back under center (AND NOT IN THE #$%@ SHOTGUN ALL THE TIME!), and he has done admirably thus far. He has managed the games well, and has not turned the ball over unnecessarily. He has gotten us wins as the leader of the offense. Mock it all you want, but he has taken charge and led us to five straight W's... which is all that matters. No, by no means is this a call to arms to have Zac removed as the starting QB. He's earned that spot n that is the way it should stay. However, I remember reading a story the last few days that predicted that for us to have a shot against TU this weekend, C Green would HAVE to see the field. I cannot remember where, but I think it may have been ESPN... . Given what he has shown so far, would any of you consider slipping Cody into the game to get a new wrinkle, a new element against a good Texas D? Keep in mind... Jerrod Johnson absolutely GASHED that D last week, and C Green reminds me a lot of Johnson, although he has definitely not proven he is nearly as good a passer. I am also a Philadelphia Eagles fan. They brought in Mike Vick in the offseason to add a little something to the offense. So far, that has worked out miserably. Mike never seems in rhythm when inserted into games, and he breaks McNabb's rhythm when he does come in. So, what say you? Woulld any of you even consider this?
  13. Bump... More fuel for the "screen" fire. I really think RB screens could be a great play if run effectively. We're going to need some big plays vs. Texas D. http://bigrednetwork.com/archives/2009/12/screen.html
  14. Texas grinds my gears. We had them on the ropes the last two times we've played them. We actually had the *@ won in 2006... we threw a slant pass to Terrence Nunn, who caught it PAST the first down line and proceeded to fumble. All he needed to do was hold on to the ball and we could've taken a few knees and won. They marched downfield and beat us. Then in that miserable 2007 season, we played them close and even led after 3 quarters at their place, and then they decided to start running with Jamaal Charles, who ran all over us. They win again. Keep in mind these were games under CALLY. WE DO OWE THEM ONE. Let's just deliver the knockout punch this time
  15. Bump. Does anyone know which, if any, Husker recruits plan to attend the Big 12 Championship?
  16. I agree. When he grabs colt and breaks him in half, texas may have to bring in their backup QB... this may hinder some of Colt's stats.
  17. Dead on hskrpwr. Now, if only we had Beau Davis under center, this wouldn't even be an issue.
  18. I think one thing this offense lacks that past NU offense have relied heavily on are passes to the RB's. Lucky worked wonders with those. I think both Roy and Rex could do great things with swing passes or check downs, however we never send our RB's on sideline patterns anymore... only up and crossing the middle of the field. Also, we have had to eliminate the RB screen totally. I wonder what Roy or Rex could do behind a wall of big uglies. Only thing is, seeing as how our O line is coached by Barney Cotton, I do not think we could get the lineman out to the flat sucessfully and the play would be blown up. I was TOTALLY in favor of getting rid of that WR screen... but I wonder what screens could do if we had competant lineman. I feel we are losing out on that aspect of both Roy and Rex's games.
  19. Helu just will not be 100% this year, no doubt about that, You cannot put the ball on the ground. Next year with 2 healthy running backs, I like our chances against any defense. This year we just have to mix up the backs and go with the hot hand. Helu has gotten us where we are at, but Burkhead had fresh legs thanks to 5 weeks off. Whoever is running the best, should get the bulk of the carries I think we will have more than two healthy, capable backs next year. Don't forget about Tray Robinson. He looked quite good when given the chance to shine. He ran hard and could develop into a special power back, in the Q mold. Also, depending upon what happens this year with recruiting, we may have another back to throw into the mix (i'm refering to Gio Bernard).
  20. Hey... just gotta say... if anyone remembers South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut... according to that, mormons are the "correct" religion and they will get into heaven
  21. http://boards.espn.go.com/boards/mb/mb?spo...4805&lid=25 Lol dug that up on ESPN's Sportsnation Message Boards. Check it out. Good for a laugh. Apparently someone thinks we're pulling a Clemson/CJ Spiller.
  22. I have heard two seperate rumors concerning offensive tackles in the last week. Oddly enough, both are from Missouri. One state that Joe Burgess is a silent commit to the Huskers. He did indeed visit for the K State game, even if it was not listed on Scout. I could very realistically see him being blown away by the atmosphere in Lincoln and commiting to the coaches during the visit. Also, one that has already been discussed some, regarding whether Nick Demien has inquired about the status of his Husker scholly offer. Anybody know anything?
  23. Hopefully just a sense of complacency that comes from knowing that you have your college paid for and have no one left to impress. I saw that in a kid from my own high school who committed to Iowa... he took many plays off over the course of the season, knowing he was taken care of recruiting wise. I bet when we get A Rod actually on campus and working with our O line coach, he will play up to potential. Unless said coach is still Barney Cotten. Then we can just wait and watch A Rod during his four/five years of underdevelopment as a lineman and mediocre play. . FIRE COTTEN! . And yeah, that is me, beating the dead horse.
