  1. If this turns out to be true, could it be that he and Bo came to an agreement that Watson is a West Coast guy only ... and a new coach is needed who would better serve Bo's offensive vision? I can imagine Watson not being comfortable with the direction the offense. Perhaps he told Bo this would be best for "both of us?" I would think Watson, if he truly is gone, will look for another OC job with WC written all over it. That's what the guy knows best, not where we are headed.
  2. Until we throw the ball more, WR will be by far the most challenging area to recruit. With the exception of perhaps a local kid, a higher profile WR will be extremely hard to come by. As one poster said, we will have to find the diamonds in the rough. Certainly not an easy task.
  3. A few comments. I saw the first half and first part of the third quarter. I saw Bubba make some great moves on a scramble. It's possible he may be more shifty than T-Mart. His head coach said Bubba for the most part didn't fit his offensive system and would have limited playing time for him, but he thought Bubba is a great athlete. I didn't get to see Green's nice runs. Unfortunately, I had to leave and only saw him drop a screen pass at the beginning of the game and one short gain. How did Green compare overall to the other Rbs?
  4. Yes, John Pelini, the older brother of Bo and Carl. He was recently hired as the head chef at an Omaha country club that my parents belong to. Small world huh.
  5. Thanks for the great posts!!! I agree that T-Mart has yet to prove he can throw on the run ... in fact he's terrible at it. Since he's a redshirt freshman, hopefully he gets better with experience. It's encouraging to know that Bubba can throw on the run. I remember Joe Ganz being really good at it. Bubba indeed looks like a unique prospect. Do you guys think he has room to put on another 25 pounds without loosing any speed and quickness? What's his personality like ... does he have good leadership skills and interacts well with his teammates? This is the area of concern I most have about T-Mart.
  6. Hi folks. He indeed looks like he could be a rare find. Since his passing numbers are not that great and "on paper" it "appears" that Turner and Carnes are "better" throwers, could it be bad pass protection, poor receivers, lack of practice time for the passing game, etc.? How is his control on the mound? That can be some indication of his potential as a passer. Who has seen him play? Statistics alone don't tell you everything about his passing ability.
  7. Yes! Another season of big game losses. I'm so geeked! I understand what you are saying, but the wins over MU and OSU could be what you would consider big games, so we didn't entirely fail in those type of games. But we didn't win the Big 12 championship, and that sicks out like a sore thumb no matter how you look at it.
  8. You are right that there will be other rivalries, and I will scale back a little ... but there is a history of bad blood between those two coaches that "MAY" make Penn State NU's biggest rival of all in the Big 10.
  9. There is about as much hate between John Cook and Penn State's coach as there is with he Washington's coach. This perhaps will end up being the biggest Big 10 rivalry in volleyball.
  10. Especially since we need Bo to turn over most of the defense over to Carl so our HC can focus much more on the offense.
  11. I'm a fan of Northwestern's academics. Their advice and suggestions should be priceless for NU.
  12. I hope the nay sayers give the kid a break and stop pre-judging him. We don't know what goes on through his head ... only TM does. The only thing I for sure know about him is he is quiet and is probably shy. Some of you need to stop thinking so much and wait and see how it all plays out. If he does come back next year, some of you who have been harsh on him will feel pretty silly.
  13. irafreak said: "Really? What a disaster. This game would be nothing but an embarrassment. There's little chance we reproduce the results of the first game so there is nothing to gain here and everything to lose. Will the kids even want to play that game? Smells like the brewing of Missouri Navy..." I share your concern. Nebraska won't want to be there and may not be motivated for this game. Washington will be pumped up ... they have nothing to lose. WU certainly has better athletes than SDU, and you saw what happened in that game. Washington again?
  14. I am not saying that the following article clears this subject up. We don't know what's going through TM's mind. But with this article, there is at least room for debate concerning this. Is Watson telling the truth that Martinez is interested in the game on the sideline and many of you are off-based? I can't answer that, but we need to keep an open mind and give the kid the benefit of the doubt. Draw your own conclusion. Whether Martinez or Green takes snaps, NU has a plan By BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star | Posted: Tuesday, November 30, 2010 11:40 pm Last year Zac Lee was playing with a torn flexor tendon in his throwing arm. This year Taylor Martinez has a beat-up right ankle and a sore toe. Grab an excuse if you wish heading into the Big 12 Championship. Just know Shawn Watson isn't joining you in that line. "Just part of the game," Nebraska's offensive coordinator said Tuesday. "Every season there's adversity. Usually the adversity that comes up for a coach and a team is injuries. It's how you manage them and how you handle them that counts. "I've always believed this: You have to tweak yourself to manage wins. We've been able to do that. Sometimes it hasn't been romantic or pretty, but we've found a way to do it." And sometimes finding a way means having two sets of plans. So it is this week as Nebraska prepares to meet Oklahoma on Saturday. Husker coaches were still unsure on Tuesday about who will start at quarterback, just as they very well could be come Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, maybe even the greater part of Saturday. Asked if there was some set time that coaches wanted to know whether it would be Taylor Martinez or Cody Green starting in the season's biggest game, Bo Pelini said: "What time does the game start?" Point taken. "We'll do whatever is necessary," Watson said. "Bo and I are on the same page. We build our plans. Both guys can equally do what we want to get done in a plan. We always have Plan A, and Plan B always is ready. Always." But what's it going to take for the redshirt freshman Martinez to prove to coaches he can be Plan A against Oklahoma? Ever since Martinez injured his ankle in the second quarter of the Missouri game, people have been putting percentages on the quarterback. He's 80 percent, no, maybe he's 85 percent. ... Then against Texas A&M, he reinjured his ankle and suffered a turf toe injury that had his left foot in a walking boot during most of Monday's practice. So what does Martinez need to show coaches when the boot is off? "He needs to be able to run the offense," Watson said. "You see it on film. You see his movement. You'll know if he can." Martinez did not play against Colorado, the offensive reins handed over to the sophomore Green. But even when Martinez is on the sideline he's put under the microscope. Some have wondered why he doesn't wear a headset on the sidelines as much as Green and Lee do when they're not in the game. Watson said Martinez is just doing what is asked of him. "Sometimes, what I've done with him is I've asked him to just watch the game," Watson said. "And then I always talk to him. Usually the first guy I do talk to his him, and then after that I'll talk with Cody ... and ask him what he's seen. Try to keep his mind clear so he can see it and make sure he's seeing the things he needs to see as a quarterback from that perspective." Watson said any perception that Martinez seems uninterested on the sideline would be off base. "No, that's not Taylor's demeanor," Watson said. "That's not who he is. That's wrong of them to say that. That's being overly critical of Taylor." With Martinez on the sideline against Colorado, Green made the most of his opportunity, completing 10 of 13 passes for two touchdowns. Just as important, no interceptions. Green was called in to replace Lee for a series in last year's Big 12 championship game. The drive started at Nebraska's own 1-yard-line. Green threw only one pass and it was nearly picked off. At times last year, Watson said Green got a little "nervous in the service." But the coach thinks more experience has calmed the quarterback heading into this year's championship game. "He's a totally different player. I think you can see every time he walks out on the field, his demeanor has changed," Watson said. "I thought he managed a really good game this past week. He really did a nice job in the passing game. We didn't ask him to do a lot, but he was pretty on target with everything he did." But Watson knows this week is a different animal than a home game against Colorado. A big stage awaits. It's the kind of stage where a quarterback can really prove his worth. It's Nebraska-Oklahoma. Winner takes home a big trophy and bigger memory. "You feel it in your preparation, your week's work," Watson said. "There's a championship at the end. That's what makes it special. There's electricity that's in the air." Reach Brian Christopherson at bchristopherson@journalstar.com or 402-473-7439.
  15. Jones has not been great the whole year ... we know he has had some bad games. Yes, I think he is a decent QB overall, but not in the category of a Bradford, a white, etc. He has shown he can get rattled. I'm not saying he can't hurt us, but if we stop Murray and the run game, we will have a good chance of making it difficult for Jones.
  16. DeMarco Murray is no question a hammer. He made some important first downs last Saturday by making tough yards after contact. I hope we can hold onto him better than OSU.
  17. We must tackle well on D. Passes in the flat and so on. We must make the tackles or OU will make some big plays that could determine the outcome of the game.
  18. I don't care what others think in the Big 12. All I care is that we win and move on to a fresh start away from a conference that has gotten very stale for NU. Big 12 not coming to Lincoln perhaps was half legit and half lame. He could have sent assistant Ed Stewart to present the trophy. It so happens that Stewart played football at NU and made All-American. But yeah ... I supposed Stewart would have been in great danger and would have needed 10 security guards.
  19. I saw the video. I saw the Aggie player clearly grab his private part. How can the Aggie fan say the player wasn't even close to grabbing it? The video doesn't lie ... there is no debate here. He grabbed Cotton's private part -- PERIOD!!!! You don't have to be bias and partisan to see this in the video. Whether a Husker player did something like this in the past or a player from another team did something similar, they all should be suspended! So I am disappointed in the Aggie fan, who has been very fair in the past, take such a bias view. It is what it is in the video -- CLEARLY!!!!
  20. It's a homerun for NU. I just have misgivings of leaving the Big 12 without a victory over UT. And how could we lose to a bad UT team? But with that said, it's a great move for the school. The academic portion is huge!
  21. 184-185 (99.46%) on the career, his miss came in 2008 vs Baylor. Wow to that!!! Is there a PK right now on the college level that can match Henery with PATs?
  22. Has Henery ever missed a PAT? I don't remember him missing one. Don't have time to read the whole thread, so sorry if this was already discussed.
  23. In a recent interview with Kevin Kugler and company on Cox 16, he said when he committed to N, there wasn't a second team in his decision. I see him 99 percent committed. I see this more than football and is perhaps faith based.
  24. While I enjoy the other festivities, it's the game all-the-way!!!
