  1. Being a Husker fan has little to do with results and more to do with connection. My connections to Husker football are numerous and long standing. Severing those connections would be like severing an arm or a leg. I understand the frustrations with the on-field product. As someone who counts the minutes between games and seasons, you feel a sense of complete let down when the team doesn't do what you had hoped it would. But, after a time of feeling bad about it, you pick yourself off, dust yourself off, and start hoping for the next game or season. Nebraska is going to a bowl game this year. I am not exactly happy that we won't be going to one of the major bowls and that we won't be playing in Indy, but I have no more control over these things that anyone else on this board. At least they will go bowling. And at least we aren't Northwestern and playing a "playoff" game to get to a lame bowl. Our boys can go out on a high note with a win over Iowa and a win in a bowl game to get to 10-3. Then we will begin the LONG LONG LONG and SLOW SLOW SLOW march to the 2015 season. And when it gets here, we'll all be ready and hopeful. In the end, it's not... Why do I bother being a Husker fan anymore? It is, despite less than great results, a reality that being a Husker fan is almost as basic to some of us as our name. Will Nebraska ever be a national team again? I don't know. We always have a shot because we have a support structure that lends itself to quick revitalization. The team could struggle along for years and, with the right coach hire and the right push. BOOM. Husker football is back. If Husker basketball can be revitalized, then Husker football is a NO DOUBTER.
  2. People that know I am a Husker fan razz me about it. But if you walk into an Alabama living room and bring up Nebraska, they're gonna look at you funny, then say... Big 10, that's not real football. This is SEC country. That's the home of real football. Quite frankly, they aren't going to take the time to differentiate us from any other program in the league. Which is the sad statement. Lee B stated it best in a column before the start of the season. Paraphrase would be that Nebraska is an also ran team, in an also ran division of an also ran league.
  3. I get what the OP is trying to say here, but I don't necessarily believe it's possible for most Husker fans. The love for this program goes deep and the connections are far reaching. If we all were turning out at Memorial because the team won a lot and it was fun to watch those wins, then yes, by all means, don't go. But a lot of us go to games or watch them or listen to them because we are part of a family, extended family and group of friends that love and have always loved the Huskers. Season ticket holders are frequently found to be the second or third generation of fans to have gone to games and lots of us have stories of family or friends that went to NU games pre Devaney. Going to Memorial is a social experience. You get to be around your fellow Nebraska fans. You get to feel the tradition that's long been established by the program and by the people who support it. Maybe going to the stadium also serves as a way to remember your departed relatives who used to make that same trek with you. Nebraska may lose. And none of us like it. I have sworn before that I had it with their losing and blah, blah, blah. Next season comes up, and I am ready to go. And I am hoping for wins. Saturday is the last home game. It's the last chance to see the Huskers play in Memorial until September, 2015. That's about 285 days from Saturday. Miss that chance. NOT ON YOUR FREAKING LIFE. Bo is the coach now. He won't be the coach forever. I was a fan before Bo and I will be a fan after. I am a fan forever. Even if it seems like logic would dictate that I give up. GBR! GBR!
  4. My take away from the press conference revolves around consistency and predictability. He talked about how the players are feeling pressure to "WIN" and because of that, we are trying too hard and failing. He says he tells the guys that in order to win games you must do your job every time. It's not about doing the spectacular, Bo tells them. It's about doing your job, consistently, play after play. A lot of people talk about how players would run through a wall for this guy. The love his fire and passion. And yet they're obviously not listening. Play each play. Do your job. Be consistent. He is saying those things. And none of it is sticking. Secondly, on predictability, he talks in the presser about how certain plays that worked in practice didn't work in the game. Kind of hard to build a game plan and have a good week of practice without predictability. When you are working during the week, you want to spend more times on trouble areas than you do on those items where your team has demonstrated proficiency. According to Bo, we are struggling on plays that the guys seem to demonstrate proficiency in executing during the week. So what do you do in practice, give extra time to trouble areas, or treat everything the same and neglect those trouble areas because you don't have confidence the guys will repeat what they do on the practice field come game time?
  5. If we can't beat Wisconsin, then I don't want to go to the championship game. A loss to Wisconsin would almost mean a certain BLOW out loss against Ohio State. Raise your hand if you would like the Huskers to lose to Wisky, back into the conference title game and lose WISKY 2012 style to Ohio State.
  6. Can you pause the audio stream on the app so as to sink up the radio with the tv?
  7. This feels like 2012 in a lot of ways, aside from the fact that we beat the Badgers at our place before getting pounded on them in the title game. Nebraska had a really good thing going with the win streak. We've been a little sloppy, but I think we have had some good moments and we know who we are from a style of play stand point. Wisconsin had been kind of "finding their way" back in 2012 but seemed to be peeking just in time for Indy. This year they've had two QBs and played horrid on offense in the pass game against LSU. Of late, their offense looks good. And the defense seems to be doing a comparable job to the solid work of the Blackshirts. I felt going into that 2012 title game that Nebraska might lose to Wisconsin, but that it would be a close one. None of us saw the kicking coming. In the times that Coach Bo has talked about that contest since then, he basically said that we got thrown off balance, that we played out of sorts and that we were completely out of character. I remember Coach Osborne saying a similar thing about how a game can get out of hand if one side gets thrown out of whack by big plays early. This year, the Huskers' trip to Madison has me thinking the same thing. We are very capable of a win. We could possibly lose, but it would be a very close one. If Nebraska plays "out of character" again, the problems go deeper than any one-off result. I think it would be really hard at that point to argue otherwise.
  8. What is the deal with Adam Taylor? I know that he got hurt in the lead up to the season, but I thought he would be available by now. Are they going to hold out for a medical red shirt even though he has already had his regular red shirt?

Broke his ankle or foot I thought

    3. Danny Bateman

      Danny Bateman

Hustler jock is correct. The knee was a high school injury.

    4. TonyStalloni

      TonyStalloni

He broke his ankle and initially it was said he could be back in 6 weeks. About a month ago there was a statement that said he would be out for the year.

  9. The other BIG games on Saturday might be interesting to watch, Ohio State vs. Minn being one of those contests. But at the end of the day, I don't care. I want a BIG title and will take whatever bowl comes with it, be it playoff or not.

I think there's a good chance Minny upends tOSU.

And if it happens, we can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

  10. Michigan State and Wisky are built in similar ways up front and the Spartans top back has big game ability. He flashed that some against us, but, overall, the Spartans were unable to run the ball. Aside from one run, their top back had a 2.8 yard per carry average. This is a toss up in every sense of it. Special teams = EVEN Both have a great RB. (Assuming Ameer is healthy) Both have a capable OL. Both have defenses that have played well this year. They might have a slight advantage in the pass game with Stave. Nebraska has the run game advantage at QB with Tommy. I expect this game to be a fist fight. Game might be similar to that 2001 Nebraska vs. Oklahoma game. It might come down to some little trick play or unique formation. The team that pulls it off the best wins a close one.
  11. ESPN... Dang it. I thought the cable company was telling me I had ESP. Disappointed Kevin Sorbo style!

  12. Wisky and Nebraska are evenly matched in almost every way. Both have a damn good RB. Both have hot-and-cold QB situations. Actually give an edge to Nebraska. Wisky has a runner that's so-so and a passer that's so-so. Armstrong's passing isn't always spot on, but his run game and ball fakes are considerably better. Defenses appear to have some ability, but neither is great. Return games have some possibility on both sides. Kick game about equal. Game is going to come down to a couple of factors really. Can Nebraska stop Melvin from getting to the edge? --And-- Can Nebraska avoid turnovers? If the Huskers stop perimeter runs by MG and if they don't give the ball up with fumbles and picks.... Huskers win.
  13. Here is an anecdote about me, not Bo. And proof that I can hear what Bo is saying. Story goes like this. Me and another guy, standing side by side, when a penalty was called on Nebraska. Shaky to be sure. Me and the guy next to me look at each other and shake our heads. Then the guy next to me offers, out loud and not quietly, "Man, that call was total bullsh#t!" And the line judge turns to us and says.... "Did one of you guys say something to me." I shook my head no. And he continues "better not. you ain't a coach and I am not going to hear that from any of you. Say it again, and you're out of here."
  14. I could record myself saying it. LOL Guess that wouldn't be the same. LOL
  15. The problem with comparing Bo to Tom is that when I read these statements, I hear Tom's voice. And the tone Tom speaks in and his general manner is subdued. Bo doesn't share Tom's tone or temperament.
  16. I can't stop being me, so I'm going to say you need to get over yourself. Couple things: a) as someone mentioned above you're bringing up issues from the BIG XII days - that over three years ago at least. We've all seen Bo mature quite a bit over that time frame, hell even in the last year he's matured quite a bit. It's a bit unfair to criticize him on past events now. Why not bring it up then, or just let it go? b) I'd much rather have a coach that is able to yell and scream at his players when they mess up, isn't that the point of coaching? Unless you want to see a program like UT's last few years with Brown or the issues up at Michigan where coaches are essentially cheerleaders. No thanks, this is football and if someone screws up you make sure they don't do it again. One thing to consider, he might get after a player or coach - but from what I hear a lot of those guys like playing under him. He's obviously doing something right. Taken under advisement. You make good points. And to an earlier poster, I should heed my own advice and I will try to do that better in the future. Good discussion though. I appreciate it. We are all Husker fans at the end of the day. GBR
  17. I am not important enough to get those tapes and I wouldn't have even if I had the opportunity.
  18. My phone keeps subbing out Bo in favor of No. That's funny, right?
  19. The message can be delivered without being a jerk to everyone. He just can't do that.
  20. I can't remember for sure the year this happened. It's been a while and I am fine with you guys not believing the story. It's one story told by some anonymous dude behind a CPU screen. My point is not that No says off color stuff but that he doesn't stay on message when arguing calls. He gets personal. After the A&M game 2010, I think he admitted that. And he dwells on stuff too long. Move quickly on to the next play and management the team please.
  21. I have been on plenty of sidelines, and heard many coach rants at players and refs. And I have to disagree with you. Here's a classic example...Bo goes up to the ref on his sideline, doesn't make an argument laced with profanity. That would be the typical coach thing to do. Instead he walks up to the ref and calls him a c@cksucker. When asked by the white hat what the problem was, he says the problem is this guy's a c#cksucker. Nice. That's really cool Bo. It's really helping.
