  1. Yeah. no kiddin. Trying to draw players from the most talent rich areas makes no sense whatsoever.
  2. Actually, there's a lot more creativity to what Michigan does offensively than say Ohio St. Michigan is more comparable to Wisconsin in doing a lot of different little things from blocking schemes and misdirections. Ohio St is more comparable to what we've been most the year. Line up and go about it that our guys are better than your guys. You dont have to be in shotgun and pistol and runnin all the fancy zones and read options and spreadin receivers across the field to be a dyanamic mind. And just cuz you like 22 personnel or like to get in the I and move receivers and TE's around presnapt doesnt mean youre not a dynamic mind.
  3. Im jacked for a 30-40, 340 yard, 3 TD, 0 int performance from Darlington just to spike the punch with a little "dafuq?"
  4. fify 1st back to back 0 turnover games since the Solich era, I read on twitter.
  5. Substitution issues can happen. But we're good for multiple ones a game. Always on special teams.. The whole system is just a mess of disorganization. i dont care if Riley completely absolved Read of the 12 man penalty on the first drive against Minnesota. The fact is our defense got off the field to open the game, our punt return team comes out-or defense, or whatever the hell it is-and gets a penalty to prolong the game opening drive into a TD for our opponent and allowed them to set the tone. The point is that anything special teams right now seems like a blunder.
  6. Turman? Christo? Kellogg? Anyone?

  7. Special teams is a funny dynamic. it's not something that you need to be overly successful to win games. Obviously its the 3rd of 3 phases for a reason. Offense and defense are more important. hell, this season is a testament to that very fact. As bad as it's been, we're still 9-2, and our losses cant be blamed on special teams. But, if you fail to execute what are very simple and fundamental basics within special teams (things we have NOT been able to do consistently all year) it can certainly lose you a game regardless how sound you are in other phases. Just execute the basics. Get rid of the damn circus on extra points. make sure there's 11 guys on the field. Block everyone trying to block your field goal attempts. Quit jumpin offsides on extra points-youre not gonna block it anyway unless the kicker kicks it low- and for the love of christ, maybe, just maybe, try blocking a few guys for your dynamic returner. Basics.
  8. When you give up 70 points 8 days later, yeah, great defense doesnt exactly come to mind.
  9. .............. Just your run of the mill, LOL bump. Carry on.
  10. Ive been really down about Oline play and coaching all years. Seems there just hasnt been enough gimmicks and such used to help out a banged up and inexperienced front. it's always been straight up zone/man blocking. But saturday seemed like we utilized some thinks like pin/pull, kickouts, combos, and power much more than we've seen all year. And i just think it's a result of knowing the qb isnt going to be running around. When you have an option/running qb, your main offensive philosophy has to center around the zone game. inside zone. Outside zone. So that it allows your read game and qb run game to be significant factors and prepping points for a defense. So as a staff, if you have to spend time prepping your backs and oline (lots of time spent on timing, reads, mesh points, etc) for the zone read game, you then have to be very well rounded with the zone run game as a constraint. This takes away prep time from a lot of the stuff we saw on saturday, which usually requires more in terms of timing and rythm. Which is why i now think we havent seen as much this year. I'm also of the crowd that that thinks that if what we did saturday is really what we will be moving forward, count me in. Take into account considerable talent upgrades at QB and oline. if you can be multiple and spread folks out and have the CONSISTENT ability to flank defenses with quick throws and bubbles, etc and draw them backers out of certain gaps, then you get to create really nice angles along the front and allow that conventional handoff game to work. it's just something we have experienced much this eyar. I see it now. And before some ppl go off on me about saying we're better with Fyfe than Armstrong, i'm not saying that. i'll bite that in the ass before it gets goin, cuz theres ppl here who dont know how to read and will take it that way. This is all about the future direction of this offensive system. And fact is our OC and QB have not been the best of fits for each other, and now looking back, oline issues and all, I think both have done a really good job finding a way to make it work enough to win games.
  11. Solid Oline play is needed no more or no less for any qb. Yes, Tommy can run around and get away from pressure from the most part, but how does it usually end up? Bottom line is i'm really intrigued to see where we go from here when this offensives staff can really tone down on the qb run game, which isnt even remotely close to their specialty anyway, and really hammer in on the things that are within their expertise and begin the fine tuning there.
  12. he canned a dline coach after one year, went after a legacy who was actually experienced in coaching the position at the college level (unlike some of the stupid ass needs of some who want jason peter or Grant wistrom or whoever the hell else from the 90's to coach just 'cuz) who is appearing to, thus far, be making hay. Im fully convinced Riley will be going a different direction with this guy. He's well thought out. I will not believe Read will not be let go until I see it not happening.
  13. I'm not a big fan of it. It will work well to confuse the defenses of the weaker teams, but the better defenses are more disciplined and more athletic. Some of those wide open guys that were there against Maryland won't be there against the top defenses in the Big Ten. Now, if Cavanaugh is able to make huge improvements to the o-line, and he and Langsdorf can find a solid running game, I will be happier. This is where an accurate qb comes into play. Even Leidner made some really good throws against us into tight windows. Remember Cook in 2013 for Sparty? Yes. Against really good defenses, guys are not open, so they have to be thrown open. sound mechanics, composure under pressure and accurate throws. it can be done.
  14. Any offense has trouble against well disciplined and more athletic defenses.............
  15. Even the most casual of fans already knew what was discussed here. Moving forward our qb's will be accurate passers first and runners second. They will be more accurate and more comfortable in the pocket and making reads under diress than Tommy every will be. There's more than one way to skin a cat, so this is not putting one over the other. But for the sake of comfort (and i've been saying since last year that there is a serious lack of comfort from OC to qb skill an vice versa. The OC is not a wiz at the qb's skill. The qb isnt a gamer at what the OC's bread and butter is) we will be better off going forward. Just looking at saturday it appeared that the coaches knowing full well the qb run game was pretty much not in play our prep time was more utilized on developing the things we needed and ramping up the development of nuances that these coaches are comfortable with and within their expertise.
  16. This is where I'm at as well. It's entirely possible that we're too sensitive to every mistake because of having a dedicated guy making a lot of money. But the other side of that coin is it seems like we should be decently above average if we're making that kind of investment. Especially when we have an All-American punt returner and a pretty good kicker to work with. But we seem to be below average in too many areas, not the least of which is organization. It's not justifying having one guy who only does that and barely recruits. Not trying to diminish the role of special teams but it is "only" 15-20 plays per game. We could have a guy who is coaching a position that is on the field for 80 or so plays per game and recruiting 3-4 guys per year instead of 1. i got in a debate with Mckewon on twitter last week about the notion that he also thinks fans are a little over sensitive to the mistakes bein made cuz his salary is in a bright light. I call bullsh#t. Mckewon's self riteousness of pointing out the obvious of what everyone already knows irks me a little. but to say ppl are just dissatisfied with Read cuz of his salary and that it's really not that bad was a total insult to people who know football, who are able to see the real problems. EVERY SINGLE GAME there's something as a result of total lack of preparation. He could be making 50,000 right now, and this fanbase would still be pissed cuz most of us know football. We can see the ridiculous time spent on some crapshot extra point, waste of time, gimmick, but yet in game 11, we STILL cant get 11 guys on the field. Sub penalty keeps us from getting off the field to start Minny game, allowing them to continue drive for a game opening TD. A problem that's been there week in week out. And like i said to Mckewon, we're at a point that mind games and pure incompetence has just spread throughout all ST personnel. negative punts. letting guys come clean on field goals to block it. it's a mental block now. No wonder we went for it on 4th inside the 15 against minny when a short fg gives us the lead. Riley sees what's going on. There's no trust in anything special teams right now. The whole unit across the board is an insult to pure football right now. The salary is completely irrelevant. "Junior high stuff" Exactly Coach Riley. Exactly.
  17. It's been a long time. i dont even know if it's ever happened. That we've had one particular guy in charge of special teams exclusively. Seems to me that with this has come with an inordinate amount of overthinking, from the stupid little charade we do before extra points (someone could explain why the hell it's called a swinging gate, kthnxby) to all these nuances being discussed about the punt return issues, to the constant substituion penalties. For a while our opponent couldnt kick an extra point without us jumping offsides for whatever reason. I think that with this one guy, there's too much prep time. Too much focus on trying to find an advantage here and there, that focus is lost on just executing the simple basics that make special teams successful. Staying in lanes on covering kicks. It's not rocket science. Put athletes on the field. Stay in lanes. Make tackles. On punt return, perfect the bare basics. Either play for the fake, or play for the return. it's situational. Where int he past with a coach that had other responsibilities (or 3 like Els-ST, LB, RC) there's ONLY enough time to make sure you fine tune the simple basics.
  18. The large one in the north end is getting a little sketch. last week for about 5 minutes, all the stats/scores/ads parts went dark. Only the game feed was showing. regardless of cost, 10 years is an eternity for electronics. This is the 11th season for them boards and the 8th for the ribbon boards.
  19. the sound system was fixed prior to 2014 season. Did acoustics study throughout 2013 with the new addition, and used info to fix it. Ive been there 4 times since this, and my opinion is that the sound now is as good as its ever been there.
  20. and he lost to iowa both times. and even stranger yet, as ridiculously uncommon as the score 11 is, they won the 85 game 11-10 and led this one 11-10 for quite some time.
  21. When you count out California (which wants to secede anyway-bye felicia) Trump won the popular vote. it was that close. It's not like Hillary had 10 million more votes but we got this sophisticated, people's choice screwing system in place to overcome things like that.
  22. Please quit talking playoffs. We were doing this 2 weeks ago and look where it got us. Just stop. We wont make the playoffs. We dont belong in the playoffs. We couldnt compete in the playoffs. Horse before carriage. IF we get to Indy, win that. We need to get a conference championship first. But the first most important step and is getting back to that game and at the very least being competitive.
  23. Quit beating around the bush. Call it like it is. It's part of the anti-Americana disease that is sweeping our country. any sort of "America first" mindset, because of Trump, is quickly perceived by many as racist or whatever the hell it is. Kneeling for the anthem instead of being able to be discussed with any sort of two-way intelligence, quickly transpires into discussions as to why we do the anthem to begin with. it's absolutely ridiculous. This is the road we're heading down. Now we got ppl actually questioning the honoring of people who's kind are the reason we have the freedom to do what we're doing to begin with. it's bullsh#t. I went to the game saturday night. I voted for Trump. I am not happy by the unreasonable and straight up stupid responses, violent and not, by both sides, going on across our country. I was concerned Saturday. I was taking my young kids. I was nervous about what we might come across. Would there be a group of a couple hundred around doing some stupid little protest of the election? Would there be some trouble makers heckling folks about trump? Well, shame on me for doubting the good people of this state. I walked around for about 3 hours before kickoff with my kids. making the rounds. Doin the fun PG family stuff. I never saw a thing. I guess the only thing i saw were the abundance of Jesus signs at Stadium and T. Im a very prideful American. I have friends and relatives that have served. My high school mascot was Patriots. I have a sh#t ton of faith in this nation that regardless what we encounter in the near future and far, we will prevail. Regardless what you are politically or morally, the American spirit will fight on. khaake. i pity you. I really do. Full blown condolences. Your lack of education or lack of understanding of these concepts is really sad. You would do yourself a favor to get it right.
