  1. Exceptional interview. Good kid. Depending on how Ashburn does I think we should try to get at least one player from JC in recruiting every year. A High School that just bleeds success on the football field. You want winners because the know how to win. Great story about his brother, it's nice to see he has a driving force for his success and to keep his head on the level. I really want him to succeed now.
  2. I liked Zac Taylor and he's probably the number 2 QB of the decade for Nebraska (Crouch is the only one who's better). While I liked Ganz and what he did for us last year, I think he was put into a good situation. Top to bottom our WR core was probably it's best ever (only lost Purify from the previous season, maybe Hardy can't remember), we had an experienced line who didn't have any serious injuries (that made the player miss more than 1 game), and we had a stable of RB's that were probably among the best in the Big XII (Lucky was coming off of a 1700 total yard year but got hurt, Helu showed that he was a great back, and Castille was a bruiser). A lot of things went right for the offense last year and Ganz was the best person to run it. Taylor took the reins of Nebraska's offense in the transitory period and showed us that the WCO/passing offense could work. In the process he probably took an average Nebraska team to 8 wins, and another to the Big XII championship and the Cotton Bowl. He was the only one besides Lee (who road on the coat tails of the defense) to take Nebraska to the Big XII title game this decade. Sure Crouch played in the National Championship, but they backed in when no one else decided they wanted to play Miami (seriously there were probably 3 or 4 things that needed to happen in the last week of the season that did happen). How many good teams did Nebraska play that year? I know of Oklahoma and Colorado, but were there any others? Were there any North teams that were up besides Colorado that year? Oh yeah my decade team would be QB-Taylor RB-Cory Ross RB-Marlon Lucky- even though we wanted him to do more, he had a better career than B-Jax RB-Buckhalter WR-Swift WR-Purify TE- Herian or McNeil DE-Carriker DE-Kelsay DT-Suh LB-Barret Ruud LB-Demarrio Williams DB-Josh Bullocks DB-Daniel Bullocks DB-Dujuan Groce DB-Amukamara I know I don't have a full team but those are my picks.
  3. Last time I voted (less than 5 minutes ago) it showed we are now at 51%.
  4. I don't think Suh had the number 2 performance, it's just listed that way. The writers probably just picked their best performances and threw them together in no particular order. That said it's nice to see him mentioned, but just looking through the list reminded me of how amazing Bush's performance against Fresno was. 513 yards by a player that doesn't play QB is just amazing. No matter how much people say that Vince should have won the Heisman that year, they better not bring up the fact that Bush wasn't a deserving winner.
  5. The whole point of the article was the fact that schools are more looking towards the win now point and firing coaches that aren't winning on the field, but they had improved the student part of the student-athlete. Or if they're Notre Dame, lowering their academic qualifiers so that they have a larger athlete base to look at.
  6. I thought last years Cincinnati defense was one of the better ones in the nation (maybe top 20). This year they lost 10 starters from last years defense which is the reason they've gone from good to mediocre/bad.
  7. One of the things we could use him on would be as a Kickoff returner (didn't see any punt returns). You see in every single one of his returns he sees a hole and he hits it and keeps going, no dancing around just running downhill. That seems like what Paul has done this year to great efficiency, also throwing out what Harvin has done for Minnesota. They keep going forward and get yards for field position instead of trying to keep the play alive to try and break it (most of the time those plays don't go anywhere).
  8. Chris Martin decided to go to Cal because his mom wanted him to go home and not be far away. So while he didn't have Cal in his top 5 he went their for his mom.
  9. I especially enjoyed the back flip off of the 2nd rope in the entrance.
  10. Do we use him next year in a kind of Barry Turner role (he was a stud as a freshman earned freshman AA honors)? Or do we redshirt him to get some more weight on so that he's more prepared for the physicality of the college game? This goes for practically all of our D-Lineman, who do you think has a chance to contribute emmediatly?
  11. Really one thing I want to see next year is for the Heisman people to either not send out the ballots until all the games are done, or they don't accept any votes until Sunday afternoon after the conference championships if they do send the ballots early. They also need to look at who the votes are going to and try to get some kind of standard going so that every player has a possibility of winning instead of just the QB/RB of the #1 team.
  12. I think the most interesting stat for Suh tonight was the fact that he was on 20% less ballots than Ingram and Gerhart, but still had 800+ points. He ended up being on something like 300 or so ballots. So his average place was at around 2nd. That tells me that unless he was 1st (he had something 161 first place votes) he was more likely to be left off a ballot all together instead of being placed at 2nd (105 votes) or 3rd (122 votes). Really it's too bad that he didn't have a better showing because I think this was probably the best year for a defensive player to win. There was no offensive player that separated themselves from the rest of the pack and Suh had one of the greatest seasons that an interior lineman has had ever. He also played his best in Nebraska's biggest games that had the most national tv coverage. I really think we're going to go a long time without seeing another defensive player win the Heisman (unless the voters decide they want to prove something the next time a defensive player produces a season similar to the one Suh just had).
  13. The Heisman guys need to not send out their ballots next year until all the games are played. With the growth of the information age there should be no problems with the ballots being able to get in on time, unlike in previous years where they had to be mailed and had to be sent on the Friday before to be able to get the votes in on time. McCoy was third on all three of the areas where they didn't have a Heisman finalist. I'm betting out of all of the ballots that were cast before the conference championships, McCoy probably won those and then the rest of the people that had a ballot probably didn't go against the norms. It's been talked about, but something needs to be done about the voting.
  14. Just getting ready to watch the trophy presentation and had a thought about what people think should be the standards of production that a Heisman winner should have? Me, I have a QB throwing for 3500, 35+ TD passes, 60+ completion percentage. A Running Back having over 2000 total yards or 20 TD's, as a secondary level a RB with 1500 yards rushing and 20 TD's. WR having 75+ receptions (though if they have that they have to have a near 20 yard reception average), 1500+ yards receiving, plus add a few electric plays on special teams. I'll let the the defensive stats become more of a discussion, but for a DT I think you'd probably need somewhere along the lines of Suh's season, A DE probably needs up to 20 or more sacs, a DB needs 10-15 interceptions with probably 3+ return touchdowns from those interceptions along with some electric plays in the return game. I'll admit it's harder to really give a bottom line stat value for a defensive candidate than an offensive candidate. But the universal requirement is that every candidate needs to show up and at least provide a steady presence in all of their big games. No throwing an egg in your conference championship or your major rival games. Also no exceptionally bad performances in games against top teams. What do you all think?
  15. He looks very good on his video. Good Kickoff returner (something we might need after Paul leaves) and just an overall good athlete. He's someone that could come in and take the spot that would've been Carter's.
  16. I watched his video and found him to be similar to Aaron Green. Shorter than 6', fast, shifty, gets to his hole quickly. Very good in the open field. He'll be a good addition to a class that doesn't have any playmakers since Carter decommited.
  17. We can go OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO for when OO gets some playing time.
  18. There has to be something done for this rule in the future as our game wasn't the only one affected by this type of situation(ND/Mich and FSU/Miami). But that won't change anything about the outcome of the game. It's done and over with, our best shot at changing anything would to keep bringing this up to either the Big XII or the NCAA for them to make it very clear as to what the refs should do in this sort of situation. The way they have the rule right now the refs should be able to review a situation where the clock runs down at a minimum of 3 seconds after the play was over and the ball is blown dead. But by calling the 1 second that ran off egregious, they are opening things up to where every second of the game could be brought up for the clock operators for wasting time. Of course that wouldn't happen because it's make the games 5+ hours, but the fact that there is now a possibility for it to happen should make the NCAA look into things and make the rule clear.
  19. People vote for Offensive players because it's easier to quantify their impacts on games. Whether it be Passing, Rushing, Receiving, Punt Return, or Kick Return yardage. On the defensive side of the ball you almost have to watch the whole game to normally see the impact of a player. Did he plug up the whole and ate lineman, but the linebacker or DB came up and got the tackle instead of him? How much was the offense altered because of his play. You have to watch them play a full 60 minutes, but since the voters usually don't have the time to do that, they stick with the QB, RB, and WR. Now with a guy like Suh it's much easier to vote for him because of the monster numbers he puts up. How many DTs out there that can get 82 tackles and 12 sacks? Those are more rush end numbers than a guy whose first job is to take on blockers so someone else can get the tackles. Add to the fact that there was no one capable of stopping him in the biggest game of the year for the Big XII and you get his hype-meter so far off the ground that it's really no surprise that he got invited to NYC.
  20. Mariotti doesn't have a vote, but I'm pretty sure the other three do. Cowlishaw and Ryan are probably the only ones 100%.
  21. Ryan and Page have Suh at number 1, Cowlishaw has him at number 2 behind Gerhart, but he doesn't have any QB's. I'm sure his number 3 is Ingram.
  22. That's disappointing. It seems like Suh is getting a lot of 1st place votes, but the people who aren't putting him at 1st place are more than likely going to leave him off their ballots all together rather than put him in 2nd or 3rd like they've been doing with Ingram and to an extent Gerhart. I wouldn't be surprised if Suh gets the most 1st place votes this year, which shows that at least some people don't have their heads up their aces. At least Ingram and Gerhart are at least the best of a down year on offense and they probably aren't going to give it to McCoy for a career achievement.
  23. I'm high on Brooks. I think he would've been a bigger part of this offense if he didn't get injured right when he started getting playing time. He could've played very similar to what Swift and Peterson did last year if he stayed healthy. Just didn't get his chance this year. But you're right I think that the biggest problem with this year's receivers were the dropped passes. Got to get that fixed before everything else.
  24. His most impressive play that I saw (didn't watch all the vids) was the one where he split a couple of defenders and was stumbling a bit. One of the opposing players looks like he has an angle on him, but then Lamb got his feet under him and ran by the two defenders with angles. Showed some serious speed and burst. Definitely need a game breaker like him and Carter.
  25. College Football Live is going to get a bunch of people's ballots on today's show, on ESPN right now. Spread the word
