  1. You've had 6 years of empirical evidence that, outside of 1 month, he can't. And what tiny school in the middle of nowhere has he taken to the NCAA tournament? I have 6 previous to those years that say otherwise. Your point is moot. Colorado State is who he took the NCAA tournament. He went winless at CSU in conference play in year 4. The next year he took them to NCAA tournament. Before CSU he took teams to the NAIA DII tournament appearances on multiple occasions. He was successful everywhere he went GIVEN TIME (read: 4-5 years) I feel good about him being given another year with the roster he has. I think he'll do pretty well next year and we'll be in good shape. Colorado State may not be in a Power 5 conference, but they're a bigger school than Nebraska by about 8,000 students and, comparative to Lincoln, Fort Collins is hardly "the middle of nowhere". While at Colorado State, he had a .477 winning percentage (.359 in conference), and that one trip to the NCAA tournament. At Nebraska, he's got a .466 winning percentage(.367 in conference), the worst for a HC at Nebraska in 50+ years, plus one trip to the NCAA tournament. He has 4 losing seasons, and has finished higher than 10th in the Big Ten only once. That finish was largely on the back of one month when the team got incredibly hot. So, as I said, you have one month of empirical evidence, I have 5 years. He's going into year 6, and he hasn't been successful here. To think that he's going to find a magic formula over the off-season is akin to believing in snake oil salesmen or divining rods. To the last paragraph He could find a way to defend the 3 point better and run some semblance of an offense and then we could make the tourney/have success. That's possibly the most frustrating thing about Nebrasketball for me. If they can defend the 3 better, it could go a LONG ways to improving every other aspect of the game.

  5. Out of curiosity, who would you want to hire? Heart isn't set on anyone in particular, and some of these are outright unattainable. But if it were up to me I'd probably consider Baker Dunleavy from Villanova. Mike Brey from Notre Dame. Jeff Capel from Duke. None of those would have been obtainable, though. I was all in on the Mark Gottfried train. They might be able to get Capel. Duke played awful basketball while he took over for Coach K this year While not the best audition, Capel is angling for the job when K retires, and I'm betting Brey throws his hat in that ring, too. Don't forget Wojo or Collins as well The way he's going though, K might coach till he's 100 There's going to be quite the list of former Dukies for that job when K decides to retire; throw in Johnny Dawkins and Tommy Amaker, too. The job will most likely go to someone with Duke ties after Coach K retires. Dawkins and Amaker haven't been very successful as major college head coaches, although Amaker has been good at Harvard. Jeff Capel was good at OU for a couple years, but his career ended there in controversy. I do agree that he is being groomed to take over for Coach K, whenever K retires. It will be interesting how long Collins stays at Northwestern. He is doing a great job there, and could probably land a bigger job. But, he is from the Chicago area, so he might be loyal to Northwestern for a while. Collins and Brey would be the frontrunners, IMO. The one wildcard would be Brad Stevens; he's been more successful in the NBA than I thought he would, but Duke would be one of maybe 3 jobs that could bring him back to college.

  9. Because of teamrankings.com?? Kansas has won 13 TIMES IN A ROW. B12 isn't that good of a conference. Period. Great basketball is played on the East coast just like football is played in the South. None of that changes the fact that Miles has the worst overall record of any coach in the last 60 years of the program.
  10. Would that make him even more of a black hole on offense, though? /s
  11. *Outside of Omaha. And maybe Scottsbluff.
  12. Let's start with not pooping the bed and build from there.
  13. I hope Eichorst at least put a call into Mark Gottfried, see if he was interested.

    1. C N Red

      C N Red

Rather have Weber or Marshall. But unless Miles decides to leave he will be back next year.

  14. Maybe if they get some Super Devil Juice What about the Secret Stuff from MJ's bottle in Space Jam? Maybe, but I don't like MJ and I don't like Space Jam

  16. http://www.hurricanesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205555851 Without derailing the subject at hand, the hires at NU have been underwhelming to say the least. I stand behind my doubts on Eichorst. Eichorst has made what, 2? And at least one of them, his hand was forced by allegations outside the program.
  17. He had 9 D1 offers... notables such as Wyoming, UNO, SDSU, and Air Force The main knock on kids like this is athleticism, but people always forget about 'how good are you at basketball' Having D-1 offers =/= being able to play at D-1 level. He would have washed out had he gone to a bigger school. Impossible to say. I'm sure if Drew Ott played at NDSU instead of Iowa a lot of people would make the same argument that it wouldn't have worked out if he played in the B10 1. Strawman argument. 2. You're talking about a completely different sport. 3. You're talking about someone who was actually offered a scholarship by a Big Ten institution. Ott also had a Kansas State football offer. Two P5 programs identified him as someone that could contribute as a P5 player. This thread is about Mike Daum, who chose between Wyoming, Air Force, and South Dakota State. Nobody in their right mind thought this kid was a P5 level player out of high school, and if he were at Nebraska or any other Big Ten institution right now he would be a backup role player at best because of his lack of athleticism on the defensive end. Stop digging yourself a hole trying to say this kid is a legit P5 level player. He's a nice story for SDSU and not much more than that. Well, I'll just leave it at I disagree with you on the subject. Anyone at any program who can average over 25 ppg can start on the 2nd worst team in any P5 conference Now? Yes. When he came out of HS, no.
  18. At this point, my completely unprofessional opinion is that Miles is gone, barring a miraculous run through the conference tournament.

  20. That's the thing, historically we aren't a very good program, and Miles has managed to have the worst winning percentage out of all of our last 6 coaches since 1963. On top of that he managed to have our 2 worst home losses in our program history. So he managed to bring a bad program down even further. But he's funny on Twitter!
  21. I think he'll do well in the tournament; he's an incredibly tough match-up with range out of the gym on offense, but he does have some liability on D. Had Thurmond been a better free throw shooter, Omaha would have won last night. My issue is with the false equivalency that he would be anywhere near the player he is today had he come to Nebraska.
