  1. Beck: "We're going to design our scheme around what our guys do best. Whatever they do well, we'll do." #REFRESHING

The only time we did that was last year really, and it was under Bo's direction. I do hope that will change. Watson was always regarded as a guy that played to the strengths, as opposed to Callahan.

Sometimes I think we are all just drawing meaningless contrasts just because. If Beck flops and we bring in someone who has the opposite philosophy for instance, we'll look at this and say "Thank god, now we can have an identity." Or something like that.

Yeah, it's one thing for Watson to say it and it's another to actually see it done. You have to admit it's bad when the announcers are questioning clear deficits in judgment from our offensive signal-caller.

But yeah, these message boards were created by people looking to make meaningless contrasts. Sometimes I go back and look at posts from years removed just to see how hysterical we can all be as fans...

Exactly my point zoogies. There's a lot of things about us that aren't like Oregon, I was being sarcastic. Oregon is Oregon, they're players aren't ours. After reading HB you'd think Chip Kelly was going to be our coach next year. Waaaay to many Oregon references going on...

  2. No prob. It looks like you're trying to keep it cheap, (as we all are) so don't be scared to check out a pawn shop or two. Real Estate is value for them and they're always looking to move product. Downtown Omaha has an old parts/bike place. I can't remember then name or exact location, but I do recall finding some sick, cheap parts there. This is the right time of year to start looking because everyone is moving out old product in anticipation of the new models. I'm sure you won't have a prob finding something you like... Good seeing ya around, Enhance, and good luck to ya!
  3. Mountain bike? Good choice. People don't realize the number of trails there area around the Omaha/Lincoln area. Also, the Taco Ride on Thursday nights is a must... I live by this bike shop and they take real good care of me: The Bike Way 15115 Industrial Road, Omaha, NE (402) 392-2390. The Specialty shops are the best place to go if you're looking for info or trying to compare prices. The only issue with the specialty shop is that it will end up costing you an outrageous amount of money. I try to keep a good finger on the pulse of craigslist because hey always have good deals. There's no reason to pay $1500 for a new bike when you can find a used one with the same components for $750 or less. Not sure how you feel about Pawn Shops, but that's another good place to look because you can barter some with them. I bought a Trek Alpha bike a couple years back and couldn't be happier. As parts have worn out, I simply replace them with parts that are better suited for my liking. Finding a good frame, (new or used) that fits your body size is the key. As an example, my buddy had a super-light, top-of-the-line frame on his $2000 Trek. I rode that bike off a jump and broke the welds on the frame. I'm 6'1" 210, so the smaller frame was too weak for me. I upgraded to a moderately heavier, Alpha frame and haven't had a problem in three years. From there, I think it's best to customize it with all the bells and whistles that you prefer (or can afford). Lastly, front suspension is key. Your specialty shop will sell you hard on fully-custom supsension that has a rear shock in addition to the front shock. While the rear shock is nice, it really doesn't make that much difference unless you're up in the mountains of CO or No Cal. The front shock, though, is imperative (unless you want to break your wrists). The mountain bike I bought three years ago was one of the best investments I've made. It's made for great weekend treks and countless enjoyable adventures. Platte River State Park has the best set of mountain bike trails around. They're pretty intense and you have to know what you're doing, but wear a helmet, bring a partner and you should be fine. So, in closing--don't buy new, find a frame that fits your body well, find a frame that has front suspension and learn how to fix the bike yourself. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  4. Cory Schlesinger...? Figured he'd be on there before any other FB. He had a hell of an NFL career, too. Even got to throw some blocks for Barry Sanders early in his career...
  5. Joe Dailey is a terrible comparison to Brion Carnes. Plus Brion's got the pedigree bleeding red through his veins... There are not enough ways to say it, we know NOTHING about Carnes until he plays. And enough with the "Tommie' nephew" stuff, it mean's even less. The "Tommie's nephew" stuff is funny--that's why I said it. My buddy writes for the paper and we've been able to sit in on a few drills with Brion and the other qb's. Great pocket presence, scrambles well, throws a 5-yard out on a dime and can follow-that-up with a 50-yard bomb. I bet he makes a run at the position, although it's almost impossible to think that he will play against that schedule over a guy with a year under-his-belt. T-mart better figure out that whole "pocket presence" thing (unfortunately that's the last image I have in my mind from the 2010 season)... Great thread by cornfed, though. Spurned up some passionate posts. Things were starting to get a bit mundane around here...

  7. It's too bad that we're not setting the offense up just like they had it in Kansas. I could see why Warriner wouldn't want to be in the position of relaying plays between qb and Beck. Doesn't seem like a good fit right now...
  8. I didn't even look at this kid's film until today. Dude plays fierce and looks like an animal. Check out the first play in his . Throwing the bones in highschool? Think he was born to be a member of the: .
  9. I'm not sure who the reputable posters are on this board, but all the conjecture is kinda funny. If the program is really making moves right before signing day--look out! I'm going to assume that nothing changes and (although I have very few posts on this board) I'll project that the people with -50 are FOS (wait, is that me?). Actually, I'll assume that they're Iowa fans. My next assumption will be that yogurt will rip her (his) top off and claim players are suffering from kidney illness!!
  10. "The bold is BS. We were up 17-0 with a banged-up run-first QB at the helm. You can NOT lay that loss on Martinez. That was a TEAM LOSS. If the TEAM doesn't fold on OFF and DEF we win the conference and go to a BCS bowl. I can't imagine anyone would call that an unsuccessful year, and it all happened despite this revisionist history hysteria we have cropping up. Again." You apparently weren't in Cowboys stadium to watch that game live. Taylor Martinez and Shawn Watson lost that game for us. It was very, very clear. Sacks, fumbles, hesitation, etc. Granted, ol' buddy was a Frosh QB, so there's that excuse...
  11. Zoogies-- You nailed it. That's the part that was perplexing for me. Ultimately, Bo is the head coach and it would be naive to think that he didn't have influence on the direction of the offense. There has to be some accountability by our head coach. It doesn't take a "football mind" to realize that making a huge change right before the season with a team that could compete for a conference championship and a BCS game is not intelligent. Hopefully he's not so hard-headed that he continues down this path. He needs to learn from his mistakes because it seems that many of the players feel that they totally underachieved this year.
  12. First of all, I think that's Niles' MO. Dude gets off on rising up when the cards are stacked against him. And on to the Watson part... My uncle is an O coordinator for a college football team. He rolls with Watson and breaks down game film, studies tendancies, etc (loves the dude)... Over Christmas I spent a ton of time arguing with him about the Wats. The thing I took from it is this: dude is a very smart guy. Dude also recruits well for the qb position. Unfortunately, dude can't put it all together. It's great to have the knowledge and the athletes to succeed at this level, but you must be effective with the decisions you make for said players. If what Niles said is true (changing offense immediately before the season), then Watson totally reinforced everything people have been saying about him for month. Seems like Watson is in over his head and he may be more proficient as a QB coach...
  13. The article on ESPN's front page about Danny Woodhead is amazing. Quote: "The place where Danny Woodhead comes from is not for wusses." Makes me proud of the people I get to share this great state with... Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2010/columns/story?page=hotread18/DannyWoodhead

I'm glad he is making a name for himself in the nfl. Especially with one of the best franchises in the league.

He's the only Patriot I can like. Flat out travesty he never played for the Huskers.

I was trying to avoid the "travesty he never played for the huskers" part because it hurts... The remark about Solich not recruiting him "although they stood eye-to-eye" was amusing. Now Solich coaches for Ohio and Woodhead could win a Super Bowl. Kinda puts things in perspective...

  14. Looove it. That's the second quarterback coming in next year that thinks he can perform better than T-mart. Bo loves competition at every position--so bring it on...
  15. Knapplc-- Heisman trophy candidate? Yeah, so was shoelace and a litany of other people that fell off the planet. That's why you don't pay attention to that stuff until you're 2/3 of the way through the season. Did you just compare T-magic's stats to those of Tommie Frazier (one of the greatest college players of all time)? First of all, they played in two totally different offenses and I hope you recall Tommie suffering through life-threatening blood clots that season... I'd hope that you won't compare T-magic's limp (that was only evident when he played poorly) to Tommie's medical condition. The only "crazy talk" I see on this thread is from some guy professing that T-magic is a future QB for our program. Cody Green couldn't hit a receiver to save his life, but he had an immediate impact on the o-line by simply stepping up in the pocket on Thursday. Did you watch that game? Have you ever seen a succesful qb on any level with that throwing motion? I drove 11 1/2 hours to watch some guy prove down-after-down that he's so far from being a qb that he will literally lose a game for you when you have a 2+ touchdown lead in the first quarter. He's so far from being a qb that you will honestly believe your running back is your best option at the qb position. Hell, did you even watch the Huskers lose 4 of their last 5? Did you see him flicking the ball across his body to receivers during the bowl game? Not only did he pull that stunt once and almost get picked, but he tried it for a second time. On the second occassion he actually flicked the ball across his body into the chest of a linebacker. The ball deflected off the linebacker back into T-wide receivers hands. He made a great grab and I truly hoped it was his attempt at auditioning for Niles Paul's position next year. I don't even have the time to go into the "intangibles" that he is clearly lacking.
  16. Although that would be the obvious list, I disagree. T-mart is done and done. He is not a qb and I can't see the coaches risking their jobs by trying to coach-him-up for another year. From what I hear Brion Carnes is the real deal and he could potentially make a run at the starting job. I'm guessing you're right about Jamal Turner redshirting, but there is absolutely NO WAY that Bubba would turn down 6-10 million dollars to redshirt. That dude is a freak and if he arrives, he and Brion will battle for the starting job. We have officially seen the last of the Green y Taylor show. With the QB talent we have coming in, I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them considered for a position change.
  17. "We can only hope that the rumors about Tressel are true and that they want Pelini bad....the sooner we get rid of this Pelini-Martinez luv affair, the better it is for the whole state of nebraska" Panhandle-- Seriously, bro? That is the single dumbest statement I've heard in all of 2010. I'm glad that I can officially absolve myself of it and start clean in 2011 within a few short hours...
  18. This thread is exactly the type of thing that Bo hates. Hopefully he reads it and it becomes the final straw that compels to to get the f out of town. But seriously, the thread is crap and makes Husker fans look like lunatics. I would find a place to hide it that's far, far away... Although I do like the idea of Denzel being coach. Al Pacino as O coordinator? Adam Sandler as D coordinator? Seriously, the thread is crap...
  19. I was in section C107 about 19 rows up from the field. The crowd around me was great and I know I stood the entire game. I honestly think my consistent refusal to sit during TV brakes compelled many around us to do the same. In front of us, a lady was there with her parents (who were in their 80's). I know that her father couldn't see the game on the field that often because our section was committed to getting loud, standing up and drinking heavily. I felt bad for the older couple, but I thought that they probably still had a great time because we had a great look at two of the Mega screens. He never said a word, although his daughter (in her 40's) was boozin' and jumpin' and high fivin' the whole time. On a couple occasions I know I delivered a gentle nudge to his back accidentally. He sat there as cool as a kitten and slapped high fives during touchdowns (well, I guess like two high-fives, then...). I hear what people are saying about the "blue hairs" and I get just-as-pissed when I hear "down in front" at Memorial stadium. But there are old-timers out there that aren't "as good as they once was," who still know how to go to a crazy football game and bathe in the warmth of 50,000 Husker fans (and 70 degree Texas heat) and have a great time. I had great seats and a no complaints from that game. Well, aside from...
  20. A couple things: 1. A recent article by Dirk about black/white and the gray area corresponds well with his coaching philosophy. 2. Bo's method of coaching kids and "gittin' up a kid's ass" is interesting considering recent media scrutiny. It goes to show why his players will "run through a wall for him." Great find. We rarely get to hear the x's and o's side of Bo.
  21. They're patio tickets above the box seats in each endzone. Jerry added them to the stadium to ensure that no fan would be turned away. I would arrive at a good time because you might be battling stinky Sooner fans for a standing spot...
  22. I just found out this morning that I'm heading down to the game. Leaving early on Friday to hopefully be in Dallas by 5 or 6p. We are staying 1.2 miles from the stadium and it sounds like there will be a strong husker contingent at that hotel. I heard a couple mentions earlier of tailgate passes being available. Where would a person get tailgate passes? I also heard that parking is expensive, so I see us walking over from the hotel. Anyone able to recommend a good tailgate spot? And if not, are there any bars in the area that people will be at before the game? Lastly, when we got tickets, we were told that one of the Husker sections is in the NE corner. We're 20 rows up on the 20 yard line. Is that where others have their tickets? thanks.
  23. Also confirmed by Niles' family and high school coach last night. Hate to hear that he's not going to be able to play on senior day. Additionally, this story wasn't on pedia, max or RSS last night before the OP. So once again, huskerboard breaks the news before all of them. Unfortunately it can't always be good news...
  24. I just heard Niles broke his foot today at practice. Apparently the local paper just confirmed it... Anyone else hear this?
  25. Bo Pelini has our team's best interests at heart. He's a relatively young head coach that will experience some growing pains. I think it's stupid that he had to apologize. Fire Watson.
