  1. This article about Quincy Enunwa gives me hope our WR corps will be much improved and (gasp) dangerous in 2010 and beyond. Just think, if Enunwa turns out to be a great WR, we'll have him & Kinnie for at least the next 2 season. Me likey.
  2. DJ, Mike, and Marcel have done nothing but struggle. I think the consensus on Caputo is that he'll be a pretty solid center. Henry is a mix bag of high energy potential and volatile 15-yard-penalty-maker. Williams is a veritable beast but even he got beat plenty with poor technique this year, I think. After that, you have a bunch of redshirt freshmen - who have earned some positive press, but honestly, a TON of players earn positive press and reports. We feel good about them until the minute they step on the field on do something bad. Although if these guys do, they are still just freshmen. Which makes it okay, but it also makes it such that we are going to have to expect some youth/freshman mistakes. Hardrick will probably be an improvement, but he's also totally new to Nebraska. Hopefully he adjusts, but right now we don't know yet. I'm just saying - when we name out names, sometimes we count the chickens before they hatch, and we tend to assume "a year's worth" of progression for current players when in reality, little progression or even regression are also possibilities. You're right. Naming names can definitely backfire on any optimist. But, what if one of those names was Baker Steinkuhler? I've heard there's a chance he will move from the D-line to the O-line in 2010. Based on what he did as a 5-star OL in high school, I'd say we would see drastic improvement b/c he can flat out dominate as an OL.
  3. Does the name Richie Incognito ring a bell? Yahtzee!
  4. Now hopefully I'm not knocking on wood by saying the O-line's 2009 performance is "impossible" b/c we all know injuries happen. But, based on the experience, the depth, the promise of heightened competition & the addition of a real difference-make, the O-line appears to have the pieces in place & the potential of becoming the stalwart we need. Experience (returning contributors) - DJ Jones, Marcel Jones, Mike Smith, Mike Caputo, Ricky Henry, Keith Wiliams Depth (incoming redshirt frosh) - Nick Ash, Jesse Coffey, Brent Qvale, Jeremiah Sirles More depth - incoming OL recruits and Hardrick Looks good to me! What do you think? Will this group become a stalwart?
  5. As easy as it is to be upset with this kid (if in fact he does go WKU), he's no where near the level of the Gabbert bros. Carnes never backed out of a commitment with us, so we have to at least respect him for that.
  6. thanks miandrital! good to see asante flying around like the wild man we all know and love. and it's good to see dillard in on the action too.
  7. And Carl should have gotten the post-season Defensive Coordinator of the Year award!
  8. Nothing major, but in every game since the '94 season, everyone in my immediate family predicts the score of the game. Over the last 15 years, I've taken a big lead over the others by predicting the exact score and winner of 16 games (mostly between '94 and '01). Most recently, I hit the KSt game right on...17-3 Huskers For bowl games, we used to have 3 other families over (20+ people), and we'd always eat the party platter of Italian Runzas at halftime. Good times, good times.
  9. Football is a game of matchups. That doesn't necessarily mean the matchup between players is the most important matchup. That statement is more based one gameplan vs another gameplan - that's the big matchup. How do we utilize our players in a way that gives us the advantage over the opponent's gameplan? Let's take a look at the 2009 Big 12 title game as an example (painful, I know, but proof is in the puddin). Texas is a big-time favorite coming in. They have great recruiting and a solid coach. This coach produces a gameplan for these players. On the other side is Nebraska, the underdog, which doesn't have the blue-chippers that TU does, but does have a solid coach in its own respect. This underdog coach produces an impeccable game plan that owns the Texas blue-chippers & the gameplan they're following. We all remember how that game ended, but Texas had no business winning that game because of gameplanning.
  10. And that, my friends, is the reason we're targeting dual-threat QBs rather than pocket passers. Tim Tebow was perfect for the college game, so it's easy to see why Bo wants an offense like the one Tebow ran at FU.
  11. Considering all that's been said about the direction of our offense, I think the thing I like most is the fact that Bo is becoming a major cog. He's owning this team, not just the defense. He sees where he wants the offense to go, and he's working closely with Wats to achieve just that. IMO the more Bo makes his mark on this team, the better off it will be because he is a fierce competitor who lays it all on the line to win. He has a chip on his shoulder and coaches with a contagious fire that needs to spread to all facets of this team.
  12. a prop 48 kid if i remember correctly. had to sit out a year while gaining full eligibility. we used to get a lot of prop 48 kids that worked out nicely until texas insisted on banning the practice in the new league (over TO's objections) and the other schools let texas get what they wanted, taking a tool they didn't need away from the other schools and forcing non-qualifiers to go another route. Excellent...just another tidbit to fuel the flame of hatred on Texas.
  13. Are you saying we have Heisman-caliber QBs and RBs on this team? I'm just saying Lee, Green, Helu, nor any other skill position players on this team are Heisman-caliber. I agree though, the O-line is important to our success. I just don't see us going from what we were last season to the upper echelon of offensive prowess this season.
  14. Here's two more teams that should be entered into this discussion - Notre Dame & Washington. We have a storied history with Notre Dame dating back to 1915 (the four horsemen) and extending through our big wins with Crouch at the helm. Believe it or not, the last two times we've had a home & home series with Washington, the winner of the 1st game in each of those series has gone on to win the National title (Washington in '91 & Nebraska in '97).
  15. Rape did I miss something? I thought it was abuse against women (which is almost as bad) He still held nothing on to the likes of Scott Baldwin (RB) who attacked some girl in the nude and later tried to attack a police officer in Omaha that she had to shoot him. If your asking who hurt Nebraska more I would have to say Pederson he took all of Nebraska tradition threw them out the door just so he could get the glory of saying he was responsible of bringing us back. Look at it this way One guy is paying for his crimes sitting in jail. The other guy got Paid for what he did to leave Nebraska and got his old job back. Is the guy that beat up a women worse then the guy they came up with a Ponzi scheme and bilked millions of people into losing their life savings? Pederson essentially took a meat tenderizer to our tradition, a tradition we Nebraskans are very, very proud of because it is the foundation of the football program. This of course is the same program that jumpstarted Pederson's career. Talk about ungrateful. IMO, he & Phillips are on level ground...as the muck on our shoes.
  16. Good call adding Penn State. They were my 2nd choice behind what is quickly becoming the popular pick - the Canes. Two huge factors led to my choice. 1) they've owned us in the big games (minus '94 title) and 2) they knew they owned us & were cocky as hell b/c of it. I frickin hate them for that! In retrospect, I guess this was much more an emotional vote than anything else. Either way, I can't wait for 2014
  17. That's not the game. I was at that game - it was A BLAST. The game I'm thinking of was played in the daylight. Found the play it was Ahman green first play went for 57 yards in Colorado 1994. Was the game where Frazier almost got tackled but had enough strength to throw the ball to Green on the sideline. I was right about the Maryland I just wrong player. It's around the 7th run in his highlight video. Ha! We're back to square one. That's the initial play that started this whole who-dunnit-vs-CU run. Oh well, kinda fun to remember the Carpenter TD in '89 & watch the Calvin Jones reel.
  18. I think this is the game you're referring to - homecoming Halloween night 1992, both teams ranked #8, and we dominated to the tune of 52-7. And you might just find that Calvin Jones run in this highlight.
  19. I thought Newcombe was the better passer and a great runner, but he had a tendency to fall back and take the 10 yards sacks and run out of bounds that sometimes drove you nuts. That's a maturity thing. Remember was a young QB on the heels of Scott Frost. I guarantee you if Newcombe stayed healthy & kept the starting job, he would've broken that habit and become a spectacle.
  20. Rest of the article here That's why they play the game Kiffin. If pro scouts base their perspective on Dillard simply from practices, then they're idiots. Whoever gets Dillard, even if it's in the late rounds, will reap a generous reward.
  21. I second that memory. That game couldn't have started any better. The Blackshirts force a punt on the Buffs' 1st possession, and the punt takes a Nebraska bounce to the 47. The dominant Husker offense trots onto the field & into its traditional powerhouse run formation. Knowing full well the option was coming, the Buffs show themselves powerless to stop it, as Green gets the toss & flies down the sideline untouched for 6. Needless to say, the game was over right then and there. Was that the game where Osborne mentioned afterward that they had seen something on film, and he wouldn't be surprised if we scored on the first play? I know he said that on the Tom Osborne Show once, and I know it was against Colorado. That play was run from North to South, and we ran it off the left side of our formation, so the RB was running down the East sideline to the end zone, yes? I'm just about positive that's the play. It sticks out because Tom never said things like "we thought we could score on the first play." He was always saying how Middle Directional State Tech was a really tough team and we'd have to play four quarters, then we'd pound them 70-10. I don't remember for sure if that was the game TO said we could score on the first play. Actually, I was thinking it was our first offensive play in the '89 game vs CU - screen pass to Carpenter who galloped 51 yards for the TD. And yes, Ahman's TD was down the East sideline on the option left strong side. Oh & quick correction on what I said earlier. It was a 57-yard TD, not 53. Either way,
  22. I'm all for it. We get the national spotlight in what will be a solid matchup of north title contenders. We get plenty of prep time for our first conference game & the big one after that. The games are far enough part that our players will have no trouble focusing on the game at hand (KSt) as opposed to looking past them at the TU game. This is a win-win-win situation. Hope we can make that a quad-win situation
  23. I second that memory. That game couldn't have started any better. The Blackshirts force a punt on the Buffs' 1st possession, and the punt takes a Nebraska bounce to the 47.
