  1. I'd like to see Stafford at LB as well. Has great speed and good vision. Doesn't appear to know how to cover. Easy solution.
  2. While that would be totally amazing to have Urban Meyer calling plays for us, it will NEVER HAPPEN! The man has already proven himself as a successful offensive coordinator and head coach. He would never take a step down the ladder to ben an offensive coordinator for a team like Nebraska...or any team for that matter. His next job will only be as a head coach at a big time university....possibly Ohio State.
  3. It's college football. The TE is always open, and there's 3 or 4 blown coverages a game. so yes, pass plays are to be had with proper execution. Fact is, Beck KNOWS what he has in Martinez. Like what has been said many times before, Taylor makes up his mind immediately where the ball is going, no matter what. Beck, like we did, has seen this early in the year. That doesn't mean you have to necessarily abandon the passing game, but when you have a quarterback that gets nervous in the pocket and has trouble reading the entire field, what do you do? You roll him out and cut the field down to size, simplify his reads. Not to mention, by booting Taylor out, he pretty much has a run pass option every time. Taylor does not throw well from the pocket. Taylor does not scramble out of the pocket very well when protection breaks down. I don't really see what the point is in keeping him in the pocket. PERIOD. Notice I'm not saying flat out that Taylor CAN'T throw the ball, or shouldn't be allowed to throw the ball. I'm simply asking the one guy who's paid to understand what he has in his quarterback to scheme around his strengths, and avoid his weaknesses.
  4. I agree-we did some very GOOD things last night. We had Wisconsin rattled. They saw that we came to play. Then...the nightmare began. We became pass happy and our defense went flat. Ok...so that's behind us. What can we do now? I, for one, would like to see Coach Beck become dedicated to the run. It is Martinez strength. It was funny-watching Wisconsin play last night reminded me of the great Nebraska teams of the 90's. I read somewhere this past week that Barry Alveraz (AD for Wisc.-former NU player in the '60's) said that when he was a coach for Wisc. he wanted to model his team after the Huskers. Well, he did! We were playing that way in the first quarter why in the world did we stop?? That is what I just don't understand. Rattled? I didn't see the slightest indication of that. I saw UW answer Neb's first score with a 91-yard drive on the next posession, and again after Neb made it 14-7. I saw UW make the necessary defensive adjustments. I saw UW's offense grind down the Huskers D. Watch the fourth quarter and notice who was delivering the blows.... I agree. I never saw UW rattled. Wilson looked calm the entire time and seemingly was playing in slow motion.
  5. Just a thought. Can anyone name another athletic quarterback that is more inept at scrambling out of the pocket than TMart? Guy turns into Drew Bledsoe when he makes up his mind to run..
  6. Bump. If that is a healthy Martinez NOT getting rattled, I can't imagine what a rattled TMart looks like.
  7. You're confusing me being optimistic on the year and learning from our mistakes in this game for saying "we should have won this game" -- I'm not saying that at all. Yes, we were beaten soundly. Yes, Wisconsin is the better team. I'm simply saying we DID own this game for nearly the entire first half. My disappointment isn't that what we were doing stopped working, but that we for some reason started playing a different game. I'm hoping we can learn from our mistakes in this game, players and coaches alike, and improve. Wow, one loss and most of you are ready to burn your husker gear. You need to learn how to be true loyal fans, not just cheer for your team when they happen to win. Just because I'm willing to acknowledge what I just watched with my own eyes, which was a beatdown, doesn't mean that I'm burning my Husker gear. We did not own the first half. We had 2 good scoring drives that allowed us to keep pace for a little over a quarter, and then the offense did what the defense had done pretty much up to that point....meltdown. We are simply not that good right now. The only reason I felt the need to respond to your post was because I'm tired of letting these falsehoods propagate. This team was beaten badly, and would be beaten 10 out of 10 times by that Wisconsin team. The fact is that there were a ton of questions going into this year. The offensive line is young and patched together. The QB is a good runner when he can outrun the opposing defense, but doesn't have particularly good vision or ability to make defenders miss. As a passer? It's all been said. Not a great arm. Can't read defenses. Forces throws. Basically, the offense will not go anywhere until the QB improves mightily, and I just don't see that happening anytime soon. I definitely think that Jamal Turner will get a serious look in the coming years to replace Martinez. I say that without ever having seen Turner throw a pass, because I can't imagine him being any more inept than our current QB. Everyone thought the defense would be great because we had great players returning at each level. I think we all thought the complimentary players would be much better than they are. Fisher is god awful. Ciante Evans is a tremendous disappointment so far. Cassidy looks like pre 2009 Matt O-Hanlon. Stafford is bad in coverage. Compton is average at best. The few times when the secondary gave the line time last night, Wilson was rarely pressured. This team should have started the year in the 20-25 range, and that's probably where they'll be after this game. That's not horrible, but it's where they deserve to be.
  8. Seems that every coach that is dismissed has a rumor circulated about him banging a coed. Solich, Bohl, and now Sanders, I'm assuming. I don't live in Lincoln and I don't have any 'sources'. I would assume it was something not related to Sanders' position coaching, but what was it? I don't think bMatthew is being too insolent by simply requesting a response to his direct question that isn't cryptic and condescending. Asses.
  9. I for one, don't want to hear the coach say he is ashamed. Disappointed, yes. Livid? Maybe. But this is a young team without a quarterback. How far should we be expected to go with that makeup?
  10. Corey Raymond should be taking some heat. Our DBs used to have their hands on receivers at the line. Now they're trying to dance with them. How many f***ing times is Andrew Green going to give up inside position on 3rd and medium? Quick slant every f'ing time and it's converted like child's play
  11. Turner seems more dynamic than Martinez with the ball in his hands. He was recruited as a quarterback and threw for a lot of yards at Arlington in high school. He's every bit as qualified as TMart to be a QB and the kid is f'ing electric.
  12. So let's say we're in La-La Land? The game DIDN'T play out that way. Nebraska got absolutely embarrassed on the big stage just like we have for the past 14 years. If we're not executing, we're not fine. We are fine. We had this game under control until Beck started calling on Martinez to throw the ball all around the field. Hopefully, first of all, Martinez learns that he doesn't have to do it all on every play. Hopefully Beck realizes that when he's calling a good game, there's no reason to change it. This is all about learning from our mistakes, and if we can do that well, we can learn a LOT from this game. Up until the interception machine got rolling we were winning 14-13 --- that was with under 5 mins to go in the first half. Take back that 5 minutes of poor execution and we're sitting in the driver's seat instead of playing outside of our game plan. I still say.........we're fine. You're full of s***!! Just like all the fans that thought we were a few dropped passes away from beating UT last year. We were OWNED!! Pure and simple. Take the lump. We are not in the class of UW, particularly their QB. He did whatever he wanted. Feasted on our unbelievably poor secondary play. The few times that we got pressure, he simply sidestepped whatever out of control pass rusher ended up in the backfield and made a play. As opposed to our QB, whom the UW coaching staff was DARING to throw because they knew he'd make costly mistakes. I would be more sympathetic, but we just watched the same game and you are refusing to acknowledge what you just witnessed. Usually a few days pass before the revisionism commences.
  13. This is f-ing bullsh#t. Defense has done absolutely NOTHING to dissuade UW from doing whatever they've wanted to do. Yes, Martinez is bad. Yes, we've not executed well on offense. But 48 f'ing points!! Wake the f#*k up!! The D is bad. Horrible. Dennard has looked bad. Crick has been a f'ing afterthought. David has had a decent game, IMO. This team doesn't deserve to be ranked, flat out. They were overrated from the start, but I didn't realize how outclassed they were until tonight. Time to see what kind of coaching staff we have and how much this team was outclassed until tonight. I predicted a two touchdown defeat, but this is flat our embarrassing. Oh well. Team is young, and this is what we had in store for us. I never thought we were a top 10 team, but I also didn't think we'd shrink under the bright lights like we have tonight. Coaching must improve. Team must improve. And Martinez might not be our best option as a quarterback if this is what we have to look forward to. Maybe look at getting a QB who is savvy and cool, regardless of what his skill set is, because a guy that panics and throws into coverage is going to kill us no matter how much we improve in other areas. Maybe a Major Applewhite type who does nothing special except wins games. Very disappointed tonight. Plan to drink a lot tonight.
  14. The route is on. I knew this team was overrated. I didn't know they were this bad.
  15. \\ Yeah, because the defense has been completely solid all night, right? They certainly have been admirably stout tonight.
  16. Oh right. Martinez is such a good passer usually, and hasn't shown any signs of being turnover prone. A coach putting a QB that is inept at passing in passing situations is culpable on some level. Another 3rd and long conversion for Wilson. Ho hum
  17. Wisconsin is literally doing anything they want to on offense
  18. Screen against our blitz on 3rd down. We're being outcoached along with everything else.
  19. I'm off the Martinez bandwagon. Guy has no recognition. Makes at least a half dozen 'decisions' that makes me want to put my fist through my TV. You're seeing the difference between a real QB and a slot receiver playing QB tonight.
