  1. It wasn't like this though. There were a lot of people that wanted Pelini, yes. A lot wanted Gill. A lot wanted to just argue with the same people they argued with since Solich was fired. Everyone had a source on who was going to be the guy, it wasn't this level of consensus type opinion we see with Frost. Pelini had a Husker connection but he wasn't one of us, and he wasn't building his case in weekly blowouts as a head coach. This time feels much more unified. In fact, I don't feel the Husker community has felt this unified on anything since the early 2000s. Sure, not everyone agrees, but there was that hard line in the sand for so long that feels like its disappearing.
  2. I think Frost was always meant to be a head coach, OC is just that necessary stepping stone. This is what I wrote about it in 2015 after the UCF announcement. I wrote that based on his press dealings as an offensive coordinator. I think he's much better with the press than he was then, but he's pretty quick to stop them if they're trying to lead the conversation in a direction he doesn't like or if they get stuck on buzzwords.
  3. No, the A11 is a gimmick offense. Kelly's offense is as legit as anything else out there. People will say teams have learned how to better defend read option or RPOs. Well, people have known how to defend iso and counter for 4000 years, and people still run those.
  4. If they fire him, someone will snag him, I'm pretty sure of that. He's done well with good QB play and not so good without. The solution seems pretty simple to me.
  5. I think Spielman has a chance to be great if the offense allows him to be, and I look forward to seeing him in such an offense hopefully next year. The slot is the most dangerous receiver in the modern game and he has the physical tools to be good there. Run a jet sweep to him first half that has no chance because they read it by alignment. Then later in the half he beats press man, with inside leverage, no doubt, to make a great catch over the middle. He can do it, just have to put him in the position to make plays.
  6. The Florida job has to be opened first, and it's a lot further from being opened than ours is. They'll probably can everyone if they don't improve this year, because that's what tends to happen, but coming off two division titles it makes more sense to fix what's broken....that offense is really broken and has been for several head coaching tenures. However, if Florida decides to change head coaches again, rather than work on coordinator/QB issues, I think they're making a mistake. The SEC is this big coaching circle right now where every team, aside from Bama is either just recently hired a coach, believing to be firing their coach, or both. McElwain entered the season as one of the safer jobs, along with the low expectation twins of Vanderbilt and Kentucky, and Saban. I don't think he's fired. Personally, I don't care about Florida in regards to Frost because I believe he wants the Nebraska job, but I could be wrong, and if I am then he wasn't going to come here anyhow. In other words, I don't see it as a competition between us and anyone else. There is a question of we offer, and there's question on if he'd accept, but everything else is details.
  7. You're right, Nebraska will never beat them, especially year 2 of a new coach when the performance differential is the greatest. They have a great record against the top east teams, because they play them so much, showing their clear conference superiority to Nebraska. As far as respect for other teams, I know what you mean. Nebraska will never win again until it stops with the ovation for the other team. Other teams will sometimes erroneously write letters and comments about how nice and respectful Nebraska fans were, but that's probably just sample error and best ignored. If they were only more respectful, they'd win more games.
  8. Really? 3 weeks ago we thought we had turnstiles for lineman. 2 changes went a long way. The thing that happens every time there is coaching change is a fresh look at things....guys that were buried with one coach can become stars with another. Shaquem Griffin, UCF's one handed LB, is an extreme example. He's recruited several years ago with his twin brother, whom had offers from higher profile schools, but wouldn't sign unless they took both. His brother becomes a starter while he is mostly on the scout team. When Frost comes and wonders how a one handed player functions he finds out this kid can really play. Changes from Safety to LB and wins conference defensive player of the year. There will need to be roster changes, and one shouldn't expect a lot year 1. But year 2 they should win the west, that bar is honestly not that high.
  9. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Navy, not so much because of the option but because their defense hasn't played as well the previous few weeks.
  10. 87th in yards per carry allowed (4.8 ypc). The downside to yards per carry stats is that because the median run doesn't vary across all backs and teams that much, ypc becomes heavily impacted by long runs. 5 Big Ten teams are in the top 12 in this category. 67th in yards per pass attempt (7.1 ypa). It should be noted last year finished at 6.6. 4 Big Ten teams are in the top 9 in this category, with Michigan and Penn St first and second, respectively.
  11. A little deceiving, since teams don't have much opportunity to run the ball with all those big deficits. 3.7 ypc allowed is ok. You'd like that more in the lower 3s. Below 3 ypc is a pretty elite defense. Nebraska is at 4.8, way too high.
  12. 95th vs 3rd I have no idea why one topic is dominating the boards.
  13. The stars aren't symmetrical. Really turning me off on the whole idea.
  14. He's a football coach, he doesn't wear ties. Maybe a nice polo.
  15. Without Jackson, Louisville is pretty bad. He should win the Heisman again for getting this close to outpacing his own defense, especially with that offensive line.
  16. With all the success the BIG TEN is having, midseason COY is for the team that is crappy, but not as crappy as people thought? What? 10 net yards in the second half vs Michigan 221 yards vs Wisconsin 4 turnovers in the first half of Minnesota Coach of the Year?
  17. You gotta have a nameplate if you're a head coach. Do do you think he has a special frequency on the headset thingy?
  18. He has a desk plaque and everything. He's definitely a head coach.
  19. He might, but I don't think he should answer them. He's a rebel. He's best when he's not in the big corporate structure of football, and that's not the kinds of teams that would be an upper move for him in the SEC. He's one stubborn dude, and he'd just clash down there.
  20. The great thing about Frost is he has a smart, open mind. When you've played under multiple coaches that one could argue as the greatest ever and you've seen so many different styles and you combine all of theses things you can create something special. Anybody that says, "oh he does this today, he can't do that at Nebraska"...that's somebody that is probably best ignored. Frost has been exposed to so much, it's no wonder so many different concepts from these different systems can be seen in what they do. But someone can't see that if they stick to generic labels and preconceived ideas. Thankfully he doesn't, and that's a big reason I think he's going to separate himself from others, and I hope he does that here.
