  1. No one tell Wisconsin they don't know what they're doing.
  2. I don't know if Illinois is, but the goal line certainly is trying.
  3. It is interesting that in a week where their fans want them to run the ball more they face a team where you want to put as many receivers on the field as you can.
  4. K-state can't win more than five games without him. Their entire research budget goes to discovering the fountain of youth.
  5. And yet members of their forums wonder if they'll win another game. Silly internet is silly.
  6. I've got to agree with that trend. As the week has moved forward they've gained key players and we've lost key players.
  7. Penalties don't correlate much to wins and losses. It just gets talked about a lot. Many things in the game have an inverse ratio in regards to actual importance vs how much they're talked about.Penalty yards cost us a conference championship in 2009. Yeah, they are a big factor. Anything could seem significant in a specific example, particularly in extreme cases. That does not show something to be statistically significant in the general case. It sounds counterintuitive, I know. One would think that winning teams commit less penalties and losing teams commit more; that a team with more penalty yards would be more likely to lose the game and vice versa. Some stats do work that way, such as turnovers. Turnovers have a high correlation to victory. Rushing yards correlate positively, too, though in most cases in the form of reverse causation (teams pass more when they are losing). Penalties do not have such a relationship.

  9. Back when Cally was getting canned and a new coach acquired, the various boards went through an excessive amount of rumors. Everyone had a secret source. So, I started my own rumor.....about a sandwich. No source but it was nearing that time the McRib comes back out. The @&)$ing sandwich rumor spread.
  10. I don't see any way that we'll beat Maryland this year. I bet we don't even score...But the pass defense will look much improved. Always get marry land and rutgers confused, both a joke. Both horrible adds to the B10. Both given more money then NU when they joined. Easy to tell apart: Maryland is a state and Rutgers is make believe.
  11. All I know about Stephenson getting carries is this: coaches lie.
  12. As odd as it sounds, one of the reasons injuries haven't taken more of a toll in the front 7 in terms of production is the lack of a clear set of number ones. There's not much drop off due to a lack of delineation. Not a good thing, but it has given guys reps and in a transition year, which all coaching changes are, it does help lend insight. Nothing more than a moral victory when offenses are driving up and down, though. In general, a lot of success is tied to injury luck, as was stated. Avoiding injuries is the holy grail of sports science. Nobody has a good answer.

  14. Baylor is actually a run first team. Many "passing teams" actually are. So much of the game is hidden when people can't see past the run/pass dichotomy.
  15. If we hire anyone from this board I say we give them 3 years, max. We can't give everyone a chance otherwise.
  16. Hope not. Here is a comparison that will make some folks angry. Some posters (myself) are not to thrilled with Riley after 5 games, based upon performance. Maybe, just maybe, the staff is not satisfied with the RB play after 5 games. Maybe they have decided that something needs to be done in an attempt to get wins, motivate guys etc..... If folks argue to give Riley more time, maybe burning shirts/benching/roster management is his attempt at this. If Stevenson is as advertised, I applaud Riley for this move. Even if it fails, he is trying something. Thats a positive in my book. (Like to see him unleash the Davis twins as thin as we are on DL and DE) Does the guy running the ball dictate the OC's offensive philosophy? It could have a specific impact here. Wisconsin is ultra aggressive in their pressure packages, even in running situations. But, they aren't a particularly fast defense and have been somewhat susceptible to big plays. That's a bit hidden in the stats due to how poor their last four opponents were. A back with some pop could be a key asset this weekend.
  17. Freedom Akinmoladun out for two weeks with a knee scope sucks bad! Bad timing. Stave is the worst QB in the league when pressured. Really needed Freedom to test that young offensive line.
  18. Wisconsin gave them all their points via short fields and had the decency to (literally) step on their own feet to prevent from scoring the would be winning TD.
  19. Illinois beat us so bad last week, they took our nickname, too.
