  1. So your offense only needs to score FGs and you should have the national championship in the bag? I think they can find a way to put up at least a 3 spot on the board every game.
  2. #1 What kind of reasoning is that? #2 I know it has been said in the past that he would have gone to OSU but you really don't know. For all we know he could have went to Akron to play ball in college. With everything going on at OSU I am glad he didn't attend OSU. He had more question marks surrounding him and his eligibility in HS than any one of the football players at OSU. #3 Win, lose, or draw for either school....this poll stuff is stupid. Personally I would take the tradition at OSU over almost any other school but that hardly makes it better.
  3. OSU has 29 sports teams to pay for. Football pays for 28 of those since men's basketball usually can post a profit or hold their own.
  4. I don't know about Herron at #4. He will have a hard time getting his starting job back after his suspension. I think there are better backs on the depth chart behind him.
  5. I think what sets the Nebraska fanbase apart from many school is that the people of the state cheer for the team more than for many schools. Many schools have fanbases that are mostly made up of alums, with some secondary interest from "fans" in the home state. Nebraska has a bigger and more passionate following from these non alum fans who either live in Nebraska or have a connection to the state. Same can be said about Michigan, Ohio State and others. The historically great college football programs (Michigan, Texas, Ohio State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Alabama....) have a national draw and a large fan base of which most have never attended a class at said university and for some never set foot on campus. You will find the above to be true throughout most of the big ten.
  6. I don't get it. Just because something happened 15 years ago doesn't mean it still isn't a problem. Even a outsider can see the Big 12 didn't care about the north.
  7. Is that open to everyone? Absolutely. Too bad I don't hang around Lincoln all that much when I am out in Nebraska. I am usually in Omaha or points west of Lincoln.
  8. I'm not sure either. And I don't know how you would really quantify that. I've provided some numbers showing that Nebraska is a big TV draw nationally, and that we are ranked now about where PSU was ranked when they joined the Big Ten. But again, I really don't care if some non-Husker fan doesn't think Nebraska is all that and a bag of chips - and really, I don't expect them to. I am a fan of the UNL campus and I think it fits in well with the rest of the Big 10. Like I said before, the Big 10 saw value in the Nebraska brand or else they wouldn't have asked them to join.
  9. I think I have lost track of the point of this discussions and what is being asked. Are we trying to determine if UNL is >= to PSU?
  10. It almost sounds like this guy want Suh to fail. otoh, this is probably just off-season space filler. I would guess, if he does have a sophomore slump, it would have to do more with the lockout (see less games/team practices) than general on the field play.
  11. Must be a slow news day in Detroit.
  12. Nobody is taking offense to questions about Nebraska. It's only natural that you guys would be curious, and not as informed as we, the Husker fans, are. The only offense that's being taken is to the implications that Nebraska is somehow inferior to the rest of the Big Ten. Wouldn't you take offense to someone coming to your message boards and calling Iowa inferior? I can guarantee you that such comments would not be welcomed with pleasure. Yes but Iowa is inferior. They always have high expectations that end mid season.
  13. It will be interesting when OSU comes out to Memorial Stadium. I don't know if Miller will be ready by then so it could be a long game vs a good defensive team. If it is Bauserman, get ready for the Blackshirts to tee up on the OSU QB.
  14. Do you really think your conference acquired Nebraska so we would deliver the Omaha and Lincoln markets? We're a national draw, man. See here Alaskan Nebraskans – Alaska Chapter. I am sure Northwestern has just as many if not more alumni associations in the US. It doesn't make them a powerhouse. I don't know why you guys are so defensive about everything. The Big 10 leadership obviously sees a value in the Nebraska brand and they made the most logical choice (outside of ND) for bringing the 12th team into the Big 10. Like I said before, there wasn't a value in expanding the BTN into Nebraska so it is something else. The Big 10 loves tradition and they see Nebraska as a power that will compete well within the Big 10. The national games I am sure will be huge draws but with the move to more regional games on ESPN and the such, it won't be the same as it was 10 years ago. The CCG and bowl games will stand alone. I am sure having another team with a shot every year to make it to a BCS game and sharing that money inside the conference has some influence in the decision.
  15. Just wondering how you complied that list. Not that it means anything in this thread. Nebraska will be fine in the Big 10 and will compete for the top of the conference most years in football. It will be interesting if their recruiting footprint will change over the years.
  16. Wouldn't that dispel the notion that Nebraska is not a top program? Sure, we'll likely bung it up somehow and fall short of expectations, but we're not chopped liver. We're not Indiana or Minnesota. We're on par with Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, although we've been down for the better part of a decade. We're rebuilding - everyone knows this - but we have the potential to be great again, and there's no reason to expect we won't be. You want to be on par with a 7-6 Michigan team? You really need to find alternative revenue streams for players to get better talent. Nebraska is a top 20 program with potential to be a top 5 team in the near future. It should be interesting to see how they transition into Big 10 play.
  17. Also, you do know that once you are in the Big 10 you are automatically slower and therefore less enjoyable to watch (lower ratings). I would have thought ESPN would have told you that by now.
  18. Do you really think your conference acquired Nebraska so we would deliver the Omaha and Lincoln markets? We're a national draw, man. Where did I say Nebraska isn't a National draw? The conference makes a lot more money with the BTN and expanding it into larger population bases. There are other reasons than TV market share in play for the overall decision to add Nebraska into the Big 10. If they were going on market share, they would have added a school like Rutgers.
  19. Historically for football Nebraska is a huge get for the Big 10 but going forward it doesn't expand the BTN like it would in other markets. Omaha and Lincoln aren't exactly huge markets to expand into. Saying that, I was very happy to hear the news about Nebraska joining the Big 10. At the very least, it will make the discussion around the Thanksgiving table in Nebraska a lot better since I won't have to hear about the Colorado/Nebraska game. I always passed on going to that game but I might have to take in a Nebraska/Iowa game since I always like seeing Iowa lose.
  20. Sadly, I don't think that is the end of all this. There are too many reporters in Columbus trying to dig up dirt.
  21. Les is filthy rich but does he have that kind of pull? He is the Chair of Ohio State's Board of Trustees and recently gave the university 100 million.
  22. Guys like Les Wexner had enough and that is what made him resign or be fired.
  23. I don't think you will find many OSU fans that think Tressel shouldn't have been fired. Sure, there are a segment of the population that might think that Tressel is somewhat innocent but most fans want to put this situation behind them. Most want OSU to clean house from the top down. I don't think you will find anyone happy about the rumors and allegations. If the NCAA comes down hard on the football program, so be it. You can't do anything about the past but learn from it.
