  1. I think the sports world is moving in this direction though. There's YES, Big10, BYU... Teams that think they are better off retaining control of their product.
  2. Not just on the edges. I watched the 2nd half and the biggest surprise was the push the UT Oline got.
  3. I'll be shocked if Kiffin is still the coach at the end of the 2012 season.
  4. If you think you were mistreated last year before they knew about NU's departure, what the refs would do in a title game vs Oklahoma has just recently been ruled a constitutional right.
  5. Texas is throwing games to avoid being on gameday
  6. The people that I have spoken to know the faculty personally, and they have stated numerous times over the last few years just how much the academia at ND wanted to join the Big Ten. Furthermore, IF there was such an issue "of dealing with Big#" for a century; THEN I would have thought by now that ND would have taken their talents elsewhere. Instead, there are no less than 25% of your games played against Big Ten opponents annually. Coupled with the losing record against said opponents since expansion came into play, it really makes me wonder where you get your argument? So much for a bitter taste, huh? That's why I said the professors were in conflict with the alumni and students. Maybe they should go to the Big# and teach literacy.
  7. From all that I have read about the situation between the Big Ten and UNL, I don't find this to be the case. Now, this is with the caveat that I fully believe the time table was expedited because of the Big XII ultimatum. If there was no ultimatum, then there is a good possibility that the outcome may have been different. Just for clarification, when the Big Ten approached ND at the end of the last century it was fully supported by the academic staff at ND. The hold-up was performed by the athletic administration, who then decided to smear the situation in the public press. It has truly left an "interesting" taste in the mouth of Big Ten personnel and fans when thinking about ND. I haven't read what LLLLLLoyd said this week; therefore, I can't comment on it. As for destroying alternatives, I guess it's a matter of perspective. A tremendous upgrade to the Graduate and Research programs at ND obviously take a backseat to the football program. I would see that as enhancement instead of destroying alternatives. It wasn't a deparmtental problem as much as a professors vs alumni and students problem. A century of dealing with Big# left a bitter enough taste in the community's mouth that no promise of research money would make joining the conference pallatable.
  8. What leads you to believe that the Big Ten attempted to force ND's hand this time? If anything, the frustration appears to be more from the other Big East schools. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when the Big Ten teams have 9-game conference schedules. I'm hoping that Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State drop ND. It's probably pie in the sky; but that's my hope. It's netspeak for asking us to join and trying to destroy our alternatives. Lloyd Carr said what Big10 fans have been saying all this time this week. I don't think anyone knows the details of what Texas promised since it was probably their private agreement with 'Savvy' Jack Swarbrick. Although after reading this board, it didn't strike me as odd that they could arrange something like that. Above posters are getting the records wrong but no matter. In the era of 10 BCS teams it's unlikely a 2 loss Notre Dame is ever not invited because the spsonsors want feel secure they will get full stadiums. In that light a qualfiying NU team should get frequent invites if you finish 2nd or 3rd in the big10+2
  9. Geographic absurdity for sure. However it was reported Texas guaranteed our non-football sports could have a home in the Big12 in the event that the Big10 tries [again] to force our hand.
  10. Michigan fans could hold up some velcros.
  11. I thought it started as some landmine treaty protest. They announced it on NBC in the 90s and then panned our stadium to show all of 1% of students that agreed.
  12. What are the odds that this will lead to a tuition hike? Well worth it in my mind. (Not that I pay tuition.) Was the tuition not rising otherwise?
  13. As good Locker and the NU defense are, can you match 8th and goal? Husker D should know never to concede anything.
  14. After watching the Mich-ND game yesterday, I think Martinez is faster, or at least more explosive. Really, I thought both Michigan and Notre Dame looked pretty slow compared to Nebraska. there is no way Taylor is faster or more explosive than Denard Robinson. Yes he is an excellent athlete, there is no discounting that, but he is nowhere close to the athlete Denard Robinson is. As far as who is the better Quarterback, at this point I believe the edge still goes to Robinson. Sure, he is a Rodriguez system guy, I'm not debating that at all, but two games into the season he is the clear cut most value player in the country. No other team relies more on any player than Michigan does on Robinson, and he continues to produce in an exponential fashion. Which consequently makes him very deserving of the Heisman praise bestowed upon him thus far. As for Taylor, this week will prove alot as he goes head to head with Locker, but against an average Washington defense. The clip doesn't show Martinez making many cuts so I don't know if he can change direction as fast as Robinson, which was the key behind a lot of his speed that most of our defenders were in the wrong direction, or couldn't get off blocks. Also DRob's throws were fairly vanilla, which makes sense because we didn't guard the WR screens out in flats. So, we need more information obv.
  15. Sparty got IU replacing Penn St as a 'permanant rival' You came out well ahead in the schedule changes, but I predict that you will suddenly schedule impromptu top teams just when everyone think you have the BCS locked up. enough. might want to consider helmets and flak jackets.
  16. Wow. That's the schedule I would design if I wanted Neb out of a title game and BCS bowl. Which is exactly what I predicted when I came on this board . We'll see how the future rotations shape up. Meanwhile UoM gets 2 real games in the first 7 weeks. With Minn, IU, Ill, NW, and 3 commuter schools, even RRod's deserted office could get 7 auto-wins.
  17. If those div are correct then Big Red has a pretty favorable road to the title game in your half of the division, asssuming the inter-division games are balanced.
