  1. Huh, I guess there is such a thing as Karma.
  2. Have you ever been to Berkley, Eugene, or Seattle? Yes, Austin is the most liberal part of Texas (not saying much), but it is far from the politics of the liberal think-tank university cities on the west coast. Compared to Seattle, Austin is like the Bible belt. I was stationed in the army 45 minutes from Austin, and we were down there all the time. (Let's see, Waco or Austin - Yeah, we'll choose Austin).
  3. Per NCAA rules the conference has to have 12 teams to have a CCG.
  4. i think this is a much more natural rival, and will be mutually accepted. now for some emoticons: :hellloooo :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh :hellloooo Here is the truth, a rivalry cannot be manufactured and it cannot be started in the first year of annual competition. Let it get going for a while. Do you think that the OU/UT game was called the Red River Shootout the first year they played? It takes years, besides I think that cute names are for second tier football programs (besides this obvious exclusion). Even though I give them a lot of sh!t I think Iowa is above that. I know I am. There is no cute name for Ohio State/Michigan that I recall, nor for Notre Dame/USC. Sorry, but I think a simple Iowa/Nebraska is a better way to describe it. It is more dignified. BTW, it has a better ring to it with Iowa first I feel. Can't believe I just said that. Who brought the good news bear? Get them some honey. Everyone is just having fun, and I seriously doubt anyone is taking it seriously.
  5. The difference is, at least when I lived in Omaha, there was almost a rivalry between the states between native Iowans and Nebraskans. I don't think anyone really cared about Colorado or Colorado cared about Nebraska as a state.
  6. CU was Officially accepted into the Pac 10 today. Per ESPN Radio Seattle.
  7. Here is what I wrote on our Seahawks Forum when people were asking about it: Texas is the touch of death to any conference. They were the reason that the Southwest Conference folded. They are the reason that the Big XII is folding. The reason there is no Big XII channel is because Texas voted it down, because they are starting their own BEVO (UT) channel. Texas needs control and they will do what they have to in order to gain it, that is the reason why the Conference headquarters moved from KC to Dallas, and the Championship game moved being a rotational game around the conference to being anchored at Jerry's World. This has been coming since the day the conference was formed, and here is why: Texas is like the rich "mean" girl in High School. Texas is popular because she has money, and can get the less-wealthy ditzy girls (rest of Big XII, minus Nebraska) that want to be popular to do whatever Texas wants because the girls think that one day, Texas will make them popular. But nobody really likes to be around Texas, because they always end up having to do what Texas wants. After Texas's first set of zombies were backstabbed (Southwest Conference), Texas had nobody left to exploit, so they decided to burn down the school. A couple schools came calling (the Pac10 and Big8) because they saw the money Texas has and wanted it for themselves (at this time Texas was rich, but ugly - she hadn't grown into her body as she has now). They forgot that Texas doesn't share - All about Nebraska who didn't want Texas at their school because of the problems it would cause (Tom Osborne was vocal about the problems Texas joining would cause, and was the only dissenting voice in the Big8). Nebraska is like the popular girl-next-door, she doesn't have quite the money or the control of the mean girls like Texas, but she's just as popular and has even more respect, because she earned it the right way, instead of minipulating and backstabbing her peers. Nebraska's old friends have become the new Texas zombies, just going along with whatever Texas wants because she has money. Nebraska started hanging out with new friends that respect her for her athletics and academics. Nebraska has seen that Texas has started carrying around the gas and matches with her to school, so Nebraska is looking at the invitations to other schools before Texas burns down the Big XII. But now, Nebraska's old friends, who respect her for who she is and not for what she has, are begging her to stay so they won't be left without a friend because they know that Texas is about to burn down their school and they need someone to follow.
  8. Isnt it true that a gopher and a wolverine are really just kissing cousins?
  9. I live in Seattle. Remember the down-and-out Husky team beat USC and nearly beat the Oregons last year. The Pac10 is severely over hyped and the loss of USC for a couple years will not help. Just remember, Arizona was the PAC 10 participant in the bowl last year, and remember how lost they looked all game.
  10. UT tried stopping Nebraska like I tried dating Megan Fox. I may have looked at her and thought, "hey, I'd like to date her," but I knew, it wouldn't be worth the trouble in the long run.
  11. Why would the sources be going to a Rivals site instead of the OWH/Foxsports/ESPN? Something just doesn't add up.
  12. ^^^ That is why I put the disclaimer in there, although I don't see the Big/Pac 10 ever getting rid of the Rose Bowl completely.
  13. I believe there is a standard 2 year transition for the teams. BC recently went through the same thing in 2003 and officially joined the ACC in 2005.
  14. Unless the Rose Bowl drastically changes their contract with the PAC 10 and Big 10, we can look forward to Rose Bowls against Texas, Oklahoma, USC, and Washington. All teams I always look forward to playing. The rivalries may change, but the traditional opponents will always be there. I can't wait.
  15. Texas only cares about Texas. Nebraska is leaving as soon as they are invited and their application is accepted.
  16. Believe it or not, you kind of just proved their point. Being in a smaller conference, they don't have the same resources as the larger schools. As soon as the cash stops from playing the larger schools, BSU will be irrelevant. BSU has to ask for the cash to play the larger schools to stay competitive. I would rather Nebraska give $1MM to BSU than $750M to play Troy.
  17. Troy received $750,000 in 2006 according to the NY Times. I can't seem to find the numbers though for the rest of the teams.
  18. Yes, but that is the norm (I don't know if it is 1MM or less). Generally smaller conference teams generally get paid good money for a 1 and 1 against a larger prestige school. I am trying to google the payouts, but I don't know if they are public.
  19. The problem with Boise St isn't that they are afraid to schedule teams, it is that teams are afraid to schedule Boise St. There is no money in it, and the only positive outcome is for Boise St.
  20. Out of curiosity, where was this sentiment when the Big XII was formed? Where was this "loyalty to your brothers" when votes went 11-1 over and over, with Nebraska the lone dissenting vote? Where was this when Tom Osborne warned the Big 8 about a Texas takeover? Those ears were deaf then, and it screwed this conference. The machinations taking place now are not Nebraska's fault. They are the result of a decade and a half of willful ignorance of the consequences of letting the Texas schools and legislature run this conference. They are the result of the global landscape of college football today, and they are the result of the billions of dollars available in this market.
