  1. They can be a good team at times and I like what Wilson is doing. Just not of talent flocks to Bloomington.
  2. Interesting fact: IU uses the crowd, aerial shots from the OSU-IU game for their promo & marketing pics. Only time their stadium is at capacity & full of red. I assume the Nebraska game might be another opportunity as well.
  3. What is the confusion about? I think a lot of people that are in Omaha or Lincoln wait and see if it's a nice day and then go to the game and get walk-up tickets. 60-70K would be a great attendance. Also, compared to previous years there isn't a new coach or a QB competition to bring out additional fans. I think he's confused because he thought the spring game had already happened. Yes I caught the tail end of the conversation and I got the impression the game was last weekend b/c they were talking about a photo of the game crowd but the game hasn't been played yet.
  4. I am cornfused. I caught part of a conversation this morning on Mike N Mike talking about Nebraska's Spring Game attendance at 72,000 and Mike Greenburg referenced a photo of a packed Memorial Stadium. What I am missing if the game is this upcoming Sat?
  5. I remember in the late 1990s (my late 20's and just a few years into my career) when Ohio State scheduled Texas for 2005 and I thought that seemed forever away. Now I am seeing games around 2030ish. That is damn close to my retirement year (if I make it that long).
  6. I was actually impressed with Clemson against OU and give them a shot against Bammer. They say mobile QBs give Bama trouble and lord knows Conner Cook is not mobile. But the way bowl season is going, I say Bama 45 Clemson 10
  7. The SEC is the only conf to slot its bowl based on match ups. Tenn was a bad match up for NW. Florida vs NW and Tenn vs Mich would have been better but the B1G likely goes 2-0 vs SEC which they don't want. Iowa just laid an egg which and is not the first B1G to struggle in the Rose Bowl. They benefited from a pretty weak schedule this year. Mich St got lucky with two wins and had a bad loss. Somehow the committee leap frogged them over OU to face Bama, whose stout D-line is a terrible match up for Mich State. OU vs Bama in Dallas was potentially bad for Bama so they leapfrogged MSU to play Bama instead. I don't think MSU would beat Clemson but they could have given them fits and who knows how the game goes. Also keep in mind that the number of NY6 teams affects all the parings down the line. It likely would not have affected the MSU & Iowa blow outs but the PAC only had 1 team in NY6, SEC 2 and B1G 3. If SEC had 3 and B1G had 2 the B1G would have 2 cakewalks over the SEC in the Citrus (Ohio State vs Tenn), Outback (Mich vs UGa) and a good chance in the Gator (Wisc/NW vs Ark/Miss State).
  8. I checked in at 28-0 then 31-0 then watched more in the second half. I don't think I saw the Oregon D stop TCU except maybe on one possession. Their QB was completing passes at will. I think their D gets gassed in games as their offense scores so quickly or has trouble producing long sustained drives that will give their D some rest. This happened in the NCG last year as early in the 3rd OSU had a t/o and Oregon scored on the very next play on a bomb. Their D had to go right back on the field, after being on the field much of the first half. By the end of the 3rd qtr they were gassed on OSU was imposing their will on them. Sometimes old fashioned football still works.
  9. I guess the B1G get's the biggest share of $, right?
  10. I guess I am pleased at 5-5 but the MSU, Iowa and NW (ranked higher than Tenn) blowouts looked bad. The SEC is strong and deep but they do manage their bowl parings. Why not put Tenn vs Mich instead of NW. NW matched up so much better against Florida. B1G might go 2-0 with Mich vs Tenn and NW vs Florida. Tenn was a tough match up for NW. This is KEY: all bowl match ups are dependent on who is getting into playoffs and NY6 games. B1G had 3, SEC, B12 and ACC 2 and PAC 1. PAC is going to have a big advantage in all its other bowl parings. What if B1G had 2 and SEC had 3 (Bama, Miss, and for argument sake UF - SEC east champ best next record) in NY6. How would the B1G and SEC records be different? You'd have Ohio State playing Tenn in Citrus, Mich playing UGa in Outback, NW playing Ark or LSU in Gator. The media never considers this and does its best to pump up the SEC.
  11. Sparty was very lucky on a couple occasions, lost to a 5-7 Nebraska team and got lucky an average Oregon team did well over the course of the season. Iowa had an easy schedule which inflated their ranking and made MSU look playoff worthy by beating them. There's luck that is needed to get into the playoff (just like BCS) and it stinks that Ohio State's 1 loss to MSU in terrible weather as time ran out hurt them more than MSU loss to Neb or Bama's 1 loss to Miss or OU 1 loss to Texas.
  12. SEC refs explains that. SEC generally can't stand the B1G, more than any other conference. I remember a bowl game with Auburn vs Wisc and IIRC instant replay was new and they had SEC refs doing the instant replay. There were 2 or 3 plays in that bowl game that if reviewed would have gone in Wisc favor but the replay crew never buzzed down to review.
  13. Not a Baylor fan (actually can't stand them) but pretty impressive with the win with all the back ups.
  14. How does the SEC get a lot of these favorable match ups? In most cases their W-L record and/or ranking is much better than the team they are paired with. I know the SEC is the only conference where the conference determines the bowl match ups. There's a lot of chatter about the SEC not having A&M play TT in Houston for fear of losing. Instead they sent A&M to Nashville where they just played Vandy a month ago.
  15. A future NFL early rounder and a big time program should have the girls lined up outside his dorm room. Some Bama student on another board said this was true about Eddie Lacy - he basically had a revolving door.
  16. LOL "I don't even really work here!" "That is what makes letting you go so difficult." Unfortunately she did work for me and letting her go was REALLY difficult b/c of her weekly disability claims
  17. What's with the repeated use of "USC kicked Steve Sarkisian to the curb" on pg 1? I didn't think complaints included wording like this. After he was terminated, I assumed a lawsuit was coming since there's always a lawsuit in coaching terminations and b/c his drinking "disability". Cool story bro - as a new manager, I quickly learned how useless employees will protect their job. A double protected class employee that worked under my supervision hardly showed up for work and when she did the work product was abysmal (it was like she had no business training at all - Seinfeld reference) and she would complain others were treating her unfairly. She made up disability after disability to protect herself.
  18. Call me a conspiracy guy or anti-sec guy but wonder how much putting MSU over OU was done to help Bama and or set up a possible OU-Bama finals to make ESPN more money. MSU is a much better match up for Bama and just don't think they have the athletes to go toe to toe with them for 4 quarters. It will not be cold, rainy & windy like it was that day when OSU became 1-dimensional. Go read the Bama boards and their fans are most pleased about not playing OU in Dallas. If MSU can only score 16 against Iowa they aren't scoring that many against Bama's D. Bama's O is solid enough to pound and get flashy when needed to score on MSU. 24-13 Bama
  19. This has happened in the past where B1G gets an extra NY6 (BCS) b/c of money (fan following fills the hotels). This ends up having a trickle down effect on the bowl match ups which could affect next year's polls & hype. B1G might get 3 wins but what if they were: MSU-Bama (no change) Iowa-Stanford (no change) OSU vs Florida Mich vs Tenn NW vs USC Wisc vs UGa PSU vs Duke IU vs C Mich Minn/Neb vs UCLA B1G probably goes 3-0 vs SEC and like 7-3 overall. I think the opposite will happen for PAC since they only have 1 playoff-NY6 team. They are going to have very favorable match ups.
  20. Wonder how much $$$ (net worth) guys like Richt, Miles, Mack Brown, etc have saved up after long coaching stints making $2-$5 million a year? Miles could easily retire today right? I saw somewhere Saban's estimated net worth (something like $7-$10 million) and I was surprised how low it was considering his salary & other booster "on-behalf" payments.
  21. Really the only possible chaos is Clemson losing. Alabama is a 17 favorite over a terrible Florida team. OU and B1G winner are locks. If UNC beats Clemson how would the committee choose between UNC, OSU and maybe Stanford? UNC - + win over #1 Clemson, ACC champ - 2 FCS wins, loss to 3-9 SCar team OSU + win over ranked Mich, no FCS, close loss to playoff team MSU (assuming they beat Iowa) in terrible weather, subjective "eye test" over UNC & Stanford - would be easily favored by Vegas - only 1 quality win, loss is late in season, not a conference champ, would committee put two teams from same conf in and leave 2 conf out? Stanford (assuming they beat USC) + wins over ranked teams - USC(?), ND, any others?, PAC Champ - 2 LOSSES, loss to middle B1G team The committee's job is to put the best 4 teams in and are they comfortable saying UNC or Stanford is better than OSU? Would they want Alabama playing UNC or OSU in round 1? Bama beats UNC by 21+. I think they would take the easy road and put in the conf champ from ACC or PAC. Things fell into place for OSU last year and just not sure it will happen again this year. It would be something tho if the same thing happened and OSU snuck in and won it again.
  22. He's right but don't do it publicly. The play calling was awful and the O-line was getting whipped all day. Certainly not the nasty unit from last year.
  23. SEC bye weeks are tougher than B1G bye weeks. Wisconsin coming off a win, stayed at #25 after the bye week. Mississippi coming off a loss (to 5-4 Arky) moves back into the Top 25 at #22 after their bye week.
  24. Too often scheduling plays a role. Iowa does not play any of the top 3 from the east. Who really thinks they are 10-0 if they do? Ohio State got lucky with a down VT (OOC) and playing Illinois and Minn from the west. Bama a few years ago were paired with Vandy, Tenn and Missouri (not their SEC East Champ year) & Tenn. Then they got lucky how the chips fell with a NCG over a crappy ND team and a rematch with LSU. I guess that is more luck on how the season plays out.
  25. Playoffs are a huge step in the right direction but there's always going to be subjectivity until we take scheduling out of the hands of the individual schools and have a parity based scheduling system administered by a centralized organization. Also there is absolutely no reason to create your schedule 8+ years down the road. It can be done the season prior. I am not a fan of the NFL but they seem to have a good scheduling system down.
