  1. I wish I knew a little more about defense to understand what he is trying to do. I know some 19 year old in a dorm room will give his analysis, but that really isn't what I'm looking for. There is clearly a huge open mass of green in the middle of 'D' and it has always been a part of Pelini's 'D'. The difference now is that there is no Hagg, Gomes, Asante or even O'Hanlon to cover that much field and make the play. Wait until there is no LaVonte David (oh no!). He appears to be content with dropping 8 into coverage which has worked in the past, but only when you force the QB to make a decision quickly. It literally looks like backyard football sometimes when the QB stands in the pocket and doesn't move for 6-8 seconds and then takes off for 15 yards. This is one reason why I can't stand people bashing our DB's.......Someone is going to open no matter how good you are (Prince and Blackmon 2010). On running plays, the opposing running back is always falling forward for another 3-5 yards. There is rarely a push up front.
  2. I'm from Douglas County. Yes, yes it is. They have a big game Tuesday. Go Wolves!
  3. I'm not a fan of Taylor and have been very critical of his play. I have also stated that I didn't think he could improve. The game he played yesterday was nothing short of outstanding. If he can continue to do what he did yesterday and keep mistakes to a minimum, I will quickly acknowledge that I was wrong. He looked unbelievable yesterday. His play yesterday has been overshadowed by the hole in the middle of the field when the defense is out there.
  4. I just like how none of this comes up when Rex has 35 touches and they win. It's really been this way for a while.....unpredictable.
  5. Lay off Thorell? I need to get better at proof reading.......................
  6. His situation reminds me so much of Matt O'Hanlon. I was convinced O'Hanlon was terrible. He needed a little time and got better...a lot better. I was wrong. Thorell is being bagged on for nothing more than being a walk-on from po dunk Loomis. The kid is an athlete. He is a sub 50 400 kid from high school. He ran the 110 hurdles in 14.5 (faster than Niles Paul). He is not the problem and I don't see why so many think so. I have been pleased how he has started making plays the last couple of weeks. He has become one of the more reliable open field tacklers we have.

  9. I don't think Pelini has ever had a pass rush in his tenure. Suh was a freak and either made plays for himself or opened up stuff for others. That being said, the talent that Suh has/had will likely not be seen anytime soon. The difference between this year and last year (IMO) is there are no longer two players like Hagg and Gomes that cover the whole field. There was a non existent pass rush last year too. One thing that is encouraging to me is that Martin has brought speed and power to the end spot that I haven't seen in a while.
  10. I was more surprised how quickly he got rid of the ball. It was ugly, like always, but it didn't seem like it was in slow motion. Maybe that's just on the long balls.
  11. This thread is more about identifying and developing talent rather than the walk on program. I actually think the walk-ons have bailed this team out time and time again. What I mean by that is....things would be far worse if they weren't here. It appears to me, atleast during the past couple of weeks, that Eric Martin may be one of the best D lineman that we have. It's great we have been watching him blow up people on kickoff for several years, but where has he been. I also kind of shrug my head when I see that Malcolm Brown is starting for Texas as a true Freshman. Wasn't recruiting really supposed to be a toss up between Brown and Aaron Green? I have been highly critical of T-Mart, but I think he played the game of his life yesterday. All that aside, can we not get a high level QB? We have walk-ons consistently in the O-Line, secondary and occasionally in the LB group.
  12. This is what everyone should be concerned about. Thorell has be getting better all year. He played outstanding against Sparty. He didn't duplicate that performance against NW, but he didn't play that bad. He's turning into a fairly reliable (I know he misses a few still) tackler which this defense needs desperately.
  13. Reverse would have looked awesome as the NW D waited for it because they had so much penetration.
  14. I don't get your logic. I am assuming that Thorell is out there because he is the best we have and not because he is a walk on. I don't see how it makes any sense whatsoever to link an inability to recruit top level talent and the success of the walk on program. Until the dude got hurt last week, Whaley was Oklahoma's #1 running back. He was solidly their #1. He transferred from an NAIA school and didn't even start there. He was a non scholarship walk on from a school that recently produced Demarco Murray and Adrian Peterson. Your point appears to be that the team struggles because of the walk on program which I think is ludicrous.
  15. 1. Taylor Martinez played by far the most complete game I have ever seen (Yep, I said it). I didn't think he had it. a. I have been as critical as anyone of his play. I was totally impressed with how he controlled the game and didn't make any mistakes. 2. Beck is the guy. a. I don't know what everyone wants. They consistently moved the ball up and down the field. Everyone pops a boner when Rex carries 35 times because it works, but it isn't going to work all the time. 3. No pass rush or anyone on the second level to make a play when mobile QB breaks through. a. The only D-Lineman we have are Eric Martin and Baker. I'm including a healthy Crick in the discussion. b. Giving up 4-6 yards on firstdown everytime won't work. 4. The safety play that was there against Sparty was non existent. 5. Enunwa is going to kill someone before the year is over. They should move him to middle linebacker so he can replace David next year. 6. Overall team is not good enough to overcome significant mistakes.
  16. Pub debates? You'll fit in well here. This is a shakedown and as crazy as this sounds.......I think it may work out in his favor. A lot of people are tired of it. Obviously, we will know pretty shortly if I am right or wrong. It still intrigues me that man that is so clearly being beating up by 'left' media and really has very little support from Fox News is doing so well in the polls. The AP articles have always been biased and there isn't a commentator on Fox right now that is really behind him. Fox had the biggest hard on for Palin and Bachman, but just can't seem to get behind Cain? How is it a shakedown? The fact is he has three sexual harassment claims that he settled while working at the National Restaurant Association. No debate on that at all. There were confidentially agreements, but Cain may have violated those himself by mentioning details. And if anyone thinks its going to be much longer before the details on those come out..... Is settling for a cash payout the same as being guilty? Not exactly, but its pretty close, and in the court of public opinion it may as well be a conviction. The one that wants to talk (the one who wants more money) filed the claim shortly after he resigned. I'm sure Gloria Alred is beating down her door right now. The NRA settled which may or may not indicate anything. $35,000 or go to court, I guess that would be their call. I've seen it go both ways.
  17. Cain is being beaten up by Fox News, too. I would hardly call them 'left.' I'm not calling them left. I am saying that he is getting no support from either side. Every strategist they bring on throws him under the bus.

  19. Without a doubt this is the game for me. I remember listening to Matt Davidson and Fiala transition from being speechless to questioning the program. I also think this might have been the last game that Jim Rose did???
  20. Don't they go hand in hand...? The beating is awful. I don't want to minimize it.
  21. I saw this a couple of days ago and I think it is really sad. The beating doesn't bother me as much as thinking about how terrified that poor girl must have been.
  22. After much debate, President Obama decided to send in Seal Team 6 after Osama rather than Rex Burkhead. He felt it was more humane.
