  1. Maybe we can get a 400+ yard rusher in the game? Imagine Wisconsin with Bo as HC, Papuchis as DC and Tim Beck coordinating the offense. I don't think Badger fans are too happy with the thought.
  2. Agree with the OL SAM MADDEN https://rivals.yahoo.com/wisconsin/football/recruiting/player-Sam-Madden-145554;_ylt=AtuIuSN9IpL_0qz.SvMPXuc_u5B4 DAVID MOORMAN https://rivals.yahoo.com/wisconsin/football/recruiting/player-David-Moorman-151435;_ylt=Av3gMZ0njG_uNzhlS4_CVfQ_u5B4
  3. I would hope that the kids would at least give coach Riley a chance.
  4. I began thinking about this yesterday, how Riley was able to upset so many highly ranked teams with 2 and 3 star recruits at Oregon State. The question that crossed my mind was if given the chance, could Bo Pelini accomplish the same feat (given Nebraska was unranked with 2 and 3 star recruits and we were playing the #1 team in the country at this time, Alabama). I believe that Bo's problem was that he is not a good head coach and cannot game plan for an opponent that is more talented and better coached. The reason Riley was able to pull of those upsets wasn't because he had better players but that he outcoached his opponent and also was able to elevate his players play through his coaching. That 2008 USC squad finished the season 12-1 and ranked number 2 in coaches, number 3 in AP. Crossing my fingers that this poll works.
  5. If it turns into a Bill Snyder type of situation then I agree with you 100%. There's not many of those guys out there though, I'm not sure Riley is quite at that level so I'm leaning towards us needing to recruit more than 3* guys - which is why, though really high on the hire, I'm a little disappointed with the assistants thus far - just from a recruiting standpoint. Seems like we've missed some opportunities to really be able to upgrade our talent. Time will tell whether that is a true statement or not. Im disappointed with the assistants pruely for recruiting reasons. This staff will likely win as many games as Pelini more often than not, but we're not going to beat Ohio State very often with our players. I was hoping this coaching change would address that issue. So far that doesn't seem to be the case. We're probably going to pull in the same fringe top 25 classes we have been. Hehe, tell that to #1 USC when (unranked) OSU beat them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73mBFsc9E8s
  6. When I found out we hired Riley I was one of those asking who the heck is Mike Riley? After reading up on him, seems like he has potential so I am going to support him. I am with many of you, not too pleased with the assistants being hired and I was never a fan of the offense he ran at OSU last season. After reading that article I am willing to give him a chance to prove himself on the field.
  7. I hope we win but after watching what USC did to Notre Dame I don't like our chances that much.

  9. "Three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad"
  10. I'm trying to be optimistic but my biggest fear is that he will try to bring in that pass happy crap that Callahan tried when he was here. Considering what he did this season at OSU raises my fears. Hoping he takes the tradition and history into consideration when deciding what type of offensive philosophy to use. Would love to see some smash mouth, physical Nebraska football once again (and bring back the fullback!).
  11. Well crap, someone had mentioned the Pro Set in another post, guess they meant Pro-Style.
  12. With the return of the pro set, what full backs are left out there that Nebraska can target? Only one I was able to find that is not commited is Luke Sellers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nebraska/football/recruiting/player-Luke-Sellers-159714).
  13. OSU gets a lot of 2 and 3 stars, maybe nothing there but Mike should know. Whether or not he targets his old school (doubtful) is another thing.
  14. At first, I was in shock, who the heck is Mike Riley? After settling down and reading up on the guy he does seem like a good hire, guess we will have to wait and see. I don't anticipate him being able to bring in too many recruits this late in the game but next season we should have a good idea how well he can recruit. He has recruited Texas and California, two places where Nebraska sorely needs to get more from (add Florida to the list and we are golden). The things that impressed me most is his ability to make players better than they are (he only gets 2 and 3 star kids) and turns them into NFL players and also his ability to beat elite (top ten) opponents even though his teams have lesser talent. That is a huge difference between Mike and Bo; given even talent, Bo got embarrassed in those games.
  15. If he brings his pass happy offense here (a la Callahan) then he will be gone (along with Eich) in a year or two.
  16. "Following multiple reports, Florida confirmed that Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain has agreed to become the Gators’ next head coach." Reports: Florida hires Colorado State's Jim McElwain http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/reports--florida-hires-colorado-state-s-jim-mcelwain-154351085.html
  17. Tressel and Meyer failed miserably as a D1A defensive coordinator? That's part of Bohl's route, whether you want to remember it or not. Just talking head coach there.
  18. Biggest concern (and reason why I would not hire him) with Frost is his lack of head coach experience. He could become a great head coach but I would rather see him prove it somewhere first.
  19. Stumbled on this article and makes me feel even more that Bohl is the man for the job. Craig Bohl plants the flag for power football in Wyoming and North Dakota http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/8/26/6005585/craig-bohl-wyoming-north-dakota-state-football-offense-defense
  20. Pretty good article http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/12/2/7313473/nebraska-football-coaching-search-scott-frost-craig-bohl
  21. Why does everyone automatically believe that Craig Bohl has not improved as a coach in the last 12 years? Many of you might admire what Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer have accomplished in the past, well, their resumes (before they were hired at Ohio State and Florida respectfully) were very similar to Craig Bohl's today. Hypothetical situation: Bohl turns Wyoming into a winner, just as he did with North Dakota State, gets hired by some big named program and leads them to the NCG; how would that make you feel? Well, Tressel and Meyer both took the same route to get there. How many schools out there are kicking themselves today for not seeing these guys sooner and hiring them? Not saying Bohl would do that but he could is all I am saying.
  22. I added Craig Bohl to the below list, still believe that he deserves consideration. CRAIG BOHL - Proven he can be a head coach, can develop talent and win championships. Sure it was with North Dakota State but he was able to do it at North Dakota State. Seemed to be able to pull talent to one of the most remote places in the US. Would like to see one more season at Wyoming but we don't exactly have the luxury of time. JIM MCELWAIN - Saban man, turned the program around. Big buyout, might be worth it? JIM TRESSEL - Like everything except for the show-cause and not sure if he would want to leave his president job so soon after taking it. The most proven of the list. SCOTT FROST - Needs to get a HC job at a FCS or lower tier FBS school and prove he can lead a team. GREG SCHIANO - Callahan comes to mind, wouldn't touch him. JOE MOGLIA - Too old (65) JERRY KILL - Health MARK RICHT - Hasn't really made Georgia into a powerhouse though they are better. DAN MULLEN - Probably won't leave TROY CALHOUN - An interesting "option" MIKE GUNDY - Could pull some recruits from Texas but otherwise doesn't impress me that much. http://nebraska.scout.com/story/1486746-hot-board-2-0-the-nebraska-coaching-search

  24. Great post and very informative (love how the Badger fans are worried!). I too am in the same place as many Husker fans where we want to be competing for the league title every year, getting in to at least a selection committee bowl game and occasionally in the playoff. We were never going to get there with Bo. I've been feeling very positive since his firing, just hope now SE makes a good sound decision on the next HC.
