  1. But DE has no managerial experience......He should be at Kent State
  2. Ugh boy........Hopefully Bo can figure something out fast
  3. Gonna start my training regiment so I can get a jersey next year!!
  4. For some reason I'm thinking this is going to be a special class
  5. Yeah, obviously not pleased that they managed to go down 7-3, but with four games in three days I'd imagine our pitching was a bit tuckered out. Being over .500 at this point in the season is definitely a plus. Ideally we'll sweep next weekend too, with West Virginia, New Mexico State and Minnesota all being mediocre to bad. 7-3 would be a nice record to start the home slate with, especially considering better play last weekend could have had us a 7-0 or 6-1 record right now. As I said last night, the Big 10 is looking even worse than I thought, if we can shore up our rotation AND our pen just a little more, there's no reason to think we won't challenge for the conference title. I really want to be excited about this team, next weekend should tell us where we really are. Anything less than 2-1 will be really disappointing. Also, gotta like the way the bats performed this weekend. I don't think there are any all-american type pitchers in the Big Ten, if we can keep hitting, that's gonna be a big plus. There is no way Nebraska could ever contend for a Big 10 title.....not with DE at the helm You know I never said that......right? It's funny how you know I was talking to you

  7. Excellent argument, now let's examine where it's not remotely relevant. First there's the obvious, that being that college coaches are actually tasked with taking 17, 18 year old kids and molding them into players. Major League managers make in game decisions but have very little to do with molding grown men into players. There's also the complete lack of actual recruiting and player assessment doesn't play nearly as large a role since the GM puts together the roster. While Matheny had no managerial experience he had spent the last several years as an instructor in the Cardinals organization. In other words, he still has more coaching experience than Darin Erstad. And finally, the Cardinals didn't just finish last in the NL Central for the third straight year and weren't arguably at the franchise's lowest point in two decades. They didn't need someone to come in and turn things around. The Cardinals just needed someone they could hand the torch to. The Huskers didn't just win the College World Series, they needed someone who could come in and turn around the program and our AD picked someone who has no idea what that takes. And finally, you're comparing the Erstad hiring to a hiring that could be one of the worst decisions the Cardinals have made in 40 years. I mean it could end up being EPICALLY stupid. The Cubs handed their manager job to a dude who had never been a major league manager last year. Turned out he was in way...way...WAY over his head. So in other words....holy god was that a bad example. So lets recap here.......Your saying managing players that are 18-21 is harder than managing 24-38 year old's?? give me a break If your going to sit there and say that MLB managers have no say in who is brought in then you're even more clueless about baseball then I thought. For example, The Cards starting CF last year Colby Rasmus had talent through the roof, however, he didn't want to take advice from Tony or any of the other coaches. So guess what happened next they ship him off to Toronto for 5 players that ultimately helped them win a ring. It's not like DE is totally in charge of everything...........If you'd pay attention to things he says like "I'll be leaning heaving on my assistants this year to help me out" Your agenda is starting to poke it's ugly head out Oh and if being an special instructor for spring training is better than being an assistant coach for a season then I guess you got me there And seriously, using what the Cardinals did, as an example as to why Erstad was a good hire, when most people were rather surprised they did it AND before you have any idea whether or not it was actually a GOOD idea is just.....dumb I'm a huge Cardinal fan and I think the Matheny hire was a great one..........Just as I think Erstad was If you don't like the Erstad hire then go support a different team

  9. That is EXACTLY the reaction I had when I heard who Osborne had hired Can I ask if you've ever coached baseball before?? I've had the exact same amount of experience as being a paid coach that Darin Erstad has. Let me be clear. I thought this was a bad idea the day it was announced. Us being swept changed my opinion not one iota. This isn't about me bailing on Erstad because we lost. I disliked the hire before he ever put the uniform on. This is not Kent State. There was no reason to give a guy who has had one year as an unpaid assistant on his resume the head job. You guys wanna get mad at me and offer up a bunch of insults because of it? Have at it, I couldn't care less. Gumber You should check out what the reigning world champs did after Tony retired........They went out and signed a former Major League baseball player in Mike Matheny who had no managerial experience If the St. Louis Cardinals can do that.........I'm sure Nebraska can do it as well
  10. That is EXACTLY the reaction I had when I heard who Osborne had hired Can I ask if you've ever coached baseball before?? Prob not. I have and I can tell you, if your knowledgeable in the game like Erstad is, you can become very successful when you find the strategy you like and works. Baseball is a game of strategy and fundamentals. Well, here comes your argument, their fundamentals were terrible! Do you know how long it takes a baseball player to become fundamentally sound if they've been doing things the wrong way (under Anderson)? A hell of a lot longer than the month Erstad has had to correct these issues. Could take a whole year to correct these issues. Don't even get me started on pitching mechanics and trying to correct those issues. I haven't seen this closer or why he has been struggling. Confidence maybe? Sure hope its not mechanics cause Silva will have his work cut out for him trying to break him of bad habits hes been having for years. Takes a lot longer to fix a baseball team that stinks than other sports in my opinion. Give Erstad more than a month of practice before you claim he was a terrible hire. Couldn't agree more

  12. That's something that get's lost in the thinking of some fans
  13. Not trying to sound disrespectful but who cares
  14. He's very close with Paul Chryst, from when Chryst was recruiting him at Wisconsin. I don't see him going anywhere but tOSU though, tought to beat out the home state team for a kid they really want, unless his name is Tyler Moore. I agree, beating OSU is going to be very hard. But at least he is going to make it here for a visit; we stand a chance, even if it is slim. And I guess I should say that this isn't his "final 3," they are his top 3. At least we are starting to make Top 3 on recruits lists.........Now time to get to #1
