  1. Shouldn't the horses already be there? I mean this is year 5...Bo should have Jrs, Sophs and Fr in the stable...or did he not realize he had to recruit all day er day? We did switch conferences in the midst of Bo's recruiting efforts. We went from playing high-octane spread offenses to teams who nearly all have thumping runners and huge O Lines. We'll see what happens with the guys he's brought in these last two years. Hopefully next year we start seeing the differences in bodies diminish. Agreed. To further the point, perhaps big bodied DL weren't as much a priority in Big 12 recruiting. DB's on the otherhand were priority number #1. We've had good secondary talent under Bo and continue to see it with Evans, Green, etc. We need to shift the DL and LB size and talent recruiting efforts. Unfortunately, the only quick fixes are JUCO's. I would bet you'll see a couple JUCO's starting next season. We have an undersized slow defense....this defense is not designed for the Big XII this defense flat out lacks talent and difference makers to compete at a high level. Football is football and Bo and Co recruited like poo for 3 years and our now trying to figure out WTH happened. I'm not saying Bo's recruiting hasn't had some misses, but when you look at the talent on offense it's hard to say he's recruited like poo for 3 years, at least for me Honestly, I think Bo's recruiting misses / adjustments can be found on OL, DL, and LB and thats it. Tying this back to the OP though, in 2 years, we should see a very complete team. Had we not switched conferences, I might feel differently.
  2. yes and no. Agree with your points on recruiting. But the Wisky game was over before it started. With Baker out, we cheated everything inside putting players out of position a lot. yeah they could have made plays, but many of them would still been 10 - 15 - 20 yards gains.
  3. This team is just so unpredictable. I would assume Georgia will dominate, but it seems like everytime we have our mind made up about this team, they go the other way. Basically, we should lose, but the jekyl / hyde aspect of this team leaves me with hope that they might actually stand a chance.

  5. When Bo got here he had to fix the defense. He did. Our defense was incredible for a couple year. But, he had to fix the offense. He has. Our offense has been very good this year. It should be a juggernaut next year. Now, he has to fix the defense again. Is there any evidence that he cant do this? What's gonna happen when both are "fixed" at the same time? This. As much as everyone likes to scream about the blowout losses, progress is being made. Match average recruiting with a conference change, some staff turnover, and injuries on the both lines and you can see we are actually sitting pretty good. The blowouts hurt. Bad. but the fact is, we have simply run out of horses on the DL and need help. The staff SHOULD be able to correct this through recruiting, but it may take a year or two at this point.
  6. For me, it's cause for concern that the Seniors we have on defense now didn't progress much over the last 4 years. If we don't see a huge jump on defense next year, just because of the superior talent we supposedly have, then we have very little evidence that they'll progress much over the following 3 years. Basically what we have next year, is what our defense will be the next 4 years. Based on the evidence. Carl is no longer around to turn our defensive tackles in to All-Americans. The only position group I've seen progress on defense recently is the cornerbacks. This is true, and it's the most baffling thing to me. I believe Bo when he says he didn't forget how to defend the run, but presuming this is true, how can anyone explain an upperclassmen-laden roster that gives up a school record rushing yards to a 7-5 team? How can we possibly have two guys rush for 200 yards against us? I have no answers for this. Wisconsin isn't better than Nebraska. And yet the scoreboard is embarrassingly lopsided, and I have very little hope that it'll be any different against Georgia. I agree and disagree. I think for the last year and a half we have seen our secondary, as a whole, develop. However, we have been lacking a stand out safety, which clearly is an integral part of Bo's scheme. Stafford and Cassidy last year, leave a lot to be desired. The single biggest issue for me, is SIZE on the DLine. No matter how much you teach technique, you cant compensate for the size difference we faced several times this year.
  7. just heard this. The beatdown was just part of the plan to bet Bret out of the conference lol.
  8. Lol. Ala Cassidy, Blatchford, Thorrell. Hey, Blatchford has had a solid season. But I'll give ya Cassidy and Thorell.
  9. whether you lose by 100 or by 1 it still only counts as 1 loss. It sucks. Makes you look bad, but at least we still have 10 other wins to look back on.
  10. Spoken like a Buffalo Bills fan... Sorry, I can't subscribe to that. If we're only going to make the CCG every year, to get pantsed by Wisky, Ohio St, or somebody else, then that sucks... Making the championship game is one thing, getting humiliated is completely different. Nebraska should never be humiliated. What's worse? not making the ccg or making it and being humiliated. I lean towards not making the game at all.
  11. As a fan, I can't accept that. Not saying a dynasty in the 90's, but playing for / winning a nc title ONCE in a 15 to 20 year span IS reasonable for this program. Failing to win a ccg in 13 years is not acceptable. I understand that includes Billy's era, but the failure to win a CC is my big frustration.
  12. What if I told you that it is the responsibility of COACHING to come up with a gameplan for success coming into each game? Not to make adjustments during the game for things a team didnt show on film, but have a plan prior to the first snap to gain an advantage. If having an effective game plan going into each week was the #1 priority for our staff what would you grade them? My point is the exact opposite of the OP. Our COACHES have proven this year that they are unable to set our team up for success. I argue that the PLAYERS, through character and will won despite our poor coaching (see our 5 of last 6 wins). Minnesota is the exception. To be honest, I'm more proud of the players on this team than I ever thought I would be. Anyone remember Arky St? Yeah that was the game wrist bands were introduced to the defense. Explain to me how that issue was not addressed until then? Oh yeah, that was following a terrible showing at UCLA. Practice anyone? Why was OSU such a shock? How is it that you give up 62 points and weren't aware of your faults. Same goes for Wisky. There are lots of examples of this this season.
  13. I believe its showing on FOX at 7:17 on Saturday. Get your popcorn
  14. Did we just turn into Wisconsin? After begging for the all whites isn't that what you want?
  15. Knapp I totally agree. With over 25% of his career still un-played it is hard to judge how he will be viewed. Believe me, I appreciate the things he's done and have the utmost respect for the way he's carried himself and our program. I'm just saying that when you get lucky enough to find a player like Martinez he contributes more to a program than just a winning season. It can help set the foundation for bigger things to come.
  16. This is impression I tend to get from a lot of people. The guy has done a lot for this program and I'm not sure he get the respect he deserves.
  17. Ok, so the title is intended to be sarcastic, but in all seriousness, think about what Martinez has and may achieve for this program. As previously stated in countless other threads, Martinez is going to finish his career at NU holding nearly every offensive record barring an extreme injury. Add to that what should be atleast one Big 10 title and BCS birth if not two. Beyond the stats, look at the big picture of his impact. He is Bo's first qb to start consecutive seasons. I feel this has added stability to the program. Something NU was desperately needing after Ganz and Lee. Both Ganz and Lee were good in their own right, just short on elegibility and playing time due to injury. Having a consistant starter for a couple years allows the staff to groom and prepare others going forward. Looking further ahead, it's impossible to name the next qb to start after Martinez, but it will likely be Tommy Armstrong or Johnny Stanton based soley on hype (i have no inside info). Either way, neither will be "new" to the system and will have "some" experience coming in. My point is, NU has a very bright future and looks to be building momentum without having to play a freshmen or start over. Hopefully this is only the beginning for this offense and it continues to snowball. It's kind of funny how 5 to 10 years from now we may look back and see how the much maligned Martinez was the lynch pin for getting this program back on track and to the next level of contending for CC's and BCS bowls consitantly. I can't say I've been a staunch supporter from day 1, but since the OSU game last year I've been onboard 100%. My question is what does HB think? agree? disagree? other? Side note: This is also testiment to the coaching staff as well.
  18. I read that as 2 mil for the 2013 game.... seems a little pricey.
  19. I understand the keeping your comments respectful part but does anyone else feel like penn st has gotten the sympathy card way too much this year? Yeah it wasn't the players fault but they still represent the ugliest and dirtiest program / institution in the country. I never cared for penn st before but I will forever condemn a program that allowed those things to happen. Less than a year from the story and it's not even talked about by the media other than the mention of the "scandal" and how tough their scholly loss will be. I'm sorry but that program aided and covered up unforgivable acts. I have a hard time respecting anyone associated with the program because it is PENN ST. I know that's a ME issue but the media has been kind to psu this season IMO.
  20. Great post! (edited to highlight a few parts) I agree completely. The Tuberville thing got some serious attention too. Especially when he tried to weasel out of it by saying he was just trying to get his assistant off the sidelines. Guy, this really is a great post. It's borderline rediculous how after every game huskerboard has a thread about "biased" announcers / commentators. Makes us sound whiney. From what I gather from reading the posts of those who did watch the segment, its sounds like less of an ESPN issue and more of a Desmond Howard issue. Each analyst / commentator has their own oppinion. To suggest that ESPN has their own agenda sounds like a bit much. That said, I personally feel that Musberger does not like Nebraska, but I don't really have any reason to say why. Maybe its his tone....or maybe its because we lay an egg every game he calls....maybe its just me. Also, I've watched a few games that Brian Griese has called and he is practically having a love affair over Michigan. Its laughable. However, I don't think ESPN has any reason to have an agenda against us. Doesn't mean they don't have idiots with idiotic opinions working for them, but you get the point.
  21. First off, I did not see the segment. I would like to but couldn't find anything on youtube. Anybody have a link? Sounds pretty skewed based on the comments though. The unusual aspect of the Pelini / Stafford exchange was that you usually dont see a player firing back at a coach like Stafford did. I said it in other threads, to me this is a non-issue, but I guess I can see why it might gain some attention. However, just as Accountability has pointed out, it has been taken out of context and even explained after the game by several players. (side note: do you think Howard actually put the skit together or is he just a puppet / messenger for the story?) I do not totally agree with Skersfan, but it does appear that a majority of negativity around Pelini is less about his actual coaching and more about the perception of his temper. If something ever does do Pelini in, I agree it will likely have more to do with an overblown incident than actual wins and losses though.
  22. I said this on the second page. ESPN likes to sensationalize anything they can including mid game interactions. Watching this video clip is like all those Martinez throwing pictures people where over analyzing the past 2 years, there's no real proof of anything because not one of us was there. Ah yes. The Martinez footwork criticism of 2011. Perfect example. Matt Millen of ABC in the Ohio St game. Martinez throws an incomplete pass. Millen points out how bad his footwork is in replay. Couple plays later, Martinez completes a pass. Millen tries to point out how his feet were so much better, but if you watch both plays, his feet are exactly the same. Epic hilarity. Yeah, I noticed that, too. Outside of making it sound like he's slobbering all over the microphone when he's talking, Millen does not have a track record of intelligence as illustrated by his performance as GM for the Lions.
  23. first 2 series then pull the plug. Minnesota is a great game to get heard and cross in.
  24. I've always been kind of puzzled by the negative reaction from people when the cameras catch Bo having a "lively" discussion with a player. He's simply coaching. Would it be better for Bo to stand there like a statue? I sure don't think so. Every coach has their own style and every player responds differently to different coaching. If you asked me, it looks like Stafford happens to be a player that feeds off of confrontation based on the way he played the second half. This doesn't happen every game, he's not smacking coaches or pushing kids. I don't get where the issue is other than you obviously can't please everyone. To me, the Million Dollar coaching question is why do have to wait until half time to figure things out, opposed to coming in prepared and playing well from the get go. Don't get me wrong, im glad they do make adjustments and get things corrected, i just wish we wouldnt be down 2 scores.
  25. No, his offense has always worked well against Sh*tty teams. That pretty well explains Louisville and their success this year. If Auburn was dumb enough to hire Chizek (mispelled but don't care) I wouldn't put anything past them.
