  1. We Nebraska fans are so lucky to have a great man like TO. 99% percent of universities have never had a TO and probably never will. I feel bad for Bo, those are giant shoes to fill.
  2. they'd find something. the fact that they haven't found more is fairly impressive considering what is probably going on within the program right now. when the state's leading paper feels the need to bury you - i don't care if your Pelini or God himself...they're going to twist a story to make it negative, and people are going to react in such a way. Yellow journalism? Get's hits. Very true. I guess some of us just dont understand why other coaches at other major unitveristies dont have these types of media blow ups. Maybe its because I dont follow them nearly as much as I follow the Huskers - therefore I dont see them. I dont know, I am just being a concerned fan.
  3. To answer your question, no I wouldnt rather have Callahan. I like Bo, as i have stated several times. I just wish we has a bit more media/pr savy and didnt look like a basket case on the sidelines. I love the passion, but the media uses it to make him look a raving lunatic. Is it his fault the media are vultures? Nope. Can he do something to prevent the media from having anything to blow out of proportion? Yep! Jackson is also at fault a little. He should have contact Bo before going to the media.
  4. Well, I bet he DOES care what they think about him. However, this situation is NOT a win at all costs type of deal. Win at all costs is SMU 1984. Win at all costs is over signing recruits to the point where they have to specifically make a rule banning your practices (a la Houston Nutt.) We ain't anywhere near that. It's been said already, but the focus on Pelini is misplaced when it comes to talking about the integrity angle, or whatever. Bo's great sin was an awkward, unpolished teleconference with reporters. That news is as fresh as the news that mining in China is dangerous. The guy with questions to answer regarding character, integrity, ect is *Marvin Sanders. *Apparently. I agree. I am not questioning his integrity. I am questioning how he handled the Jackson situation, and his ability to progress as an all-around head coach. That includes press confrences, sideline behavior, how he treats the media, etc. Again, he is young and will make mistakes. Just live and learn.
  5. Win at all cost mentality? Would you prefer the "suck at all cost" mentality of Bo's predecessor? Where the hell in my post did it say that? Your just grasping at air, man. What the "win at all cost" fans dont understand, is there are a lot of fans that care about HOW we win, not just that we win.
  6. Maybe because he has 120 or so other guys on the roster as well? Do each get a call? Why just Jackson? When did we annoint him? Bo leads a TEAM Um, ya i think Bo can call the only player Sanders recruited this year. A 3 minute phone call. I expected that out of my coach. Nebula, Sorry, shoudl have said "Bo thinks all players/recruits love him".
  7. This looks really bad on Bo, the football team and the University. As a fan, I feel embarrased today. I understand he may not have had much of a choice to not discuss Univeristy issues with a recruit, but had to be a better way to handle this. How about calling Jackson as soon as the official statement was made? Bo thinks everyone love him, and him alone. Again, his huge head gets in the way. I know Bo is a young Head coach, he will make mistakes. But, he doesnt seem to learn from his past mistakes (much like our QB's), and that is concerning.
  8. Ross Els is in his sixth season as the Bobcats' linebackers coach and his fourth as special teams coordinator. In 2009, junior punt returner LaVon Brazill was named a second-team All-American after being the only player in the nation with three punt returns for touchdown. Freshman kicker Matt Weller made an immediate impact, earning Freshman All-America honors en route to a single-season school record 21 field goals, a mark that was tops among freshmen nationally. Linebacker Noah Keller also led the league with 155 tackles en route to honorable mention All-America honors. Els oversaw the Bobcats' special teams in 2006, adding the title of special teams coordinator for the 2007 season. In his first season as special teams coordinator, kicker Michael Braunstein set the Ohio single-season field goal record and was named to the All-MAC first team. Els' linebacking corps has been a key to Ohio's success in switching from a 3-4 scheme to a 4-3 alignment. During his time at Ohio, Els has mentored three All-MAC linebackers, including two-time first-team selection Matt Muncy. Under Els' guidance, Muncy posted a career-high 115 tackles in 2005 and a career-best 17.0 tackles for loss in 2006. Tyler Russ, the team's leading tackler in 2006, was a second-team All-MAC pick as a senior. The starting unit of Muncy, Russ and Michael Graham all ranked among the Bobcats' top five tacklers on the MAC's stingiest scoring defense. Aside from coaching his experienced starting group, Els was also able to mentor four players that moved from the secondary to linebacker in 2006 that all saw significant time. In 2008, Noah Keller earned second-team All-MAC honors as a sophomore. Els came to Ohio after four seasons at New Mexico State. In his last two years with the Aggies, he served as the team's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. His first two seasons at NMSU were spent coaching the Aggie special teams and safeties. He worked extensively with two-time all-conference selection Siddeeq Shabazz who went on to play with the Atlanta Falcons. His 2001 special teamers finished first in the Sun Belt Conference in kickoff average, kickoff returns and punt returns. Els moved to New Mexico State after four successful seasons as head coach and defensive backs coach at Hastings College in Nebraska. He posted an impressive 32-9 record, leading the Broncos to the NAIA playoffs in 1998 and 1999. The 1999 squad reached the semifinals. His teams finished the regular season 10-0 and won the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference in both 1998 and 1999, and his 1998 squad was the top-ranked team in Division II heading into the playoffs. His success at the helm of the Hastings program did not go unnoticed. He was recognized as the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference Coach of the Year following the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Els was also named the 2000 Lincoln Journal Star State College Coach of the Year and the 1999 Omaha World-Herald State College Coach of the Year. Prior to ascending to the head of the Hastings program, Els spent two years as an assistant with the Broncos. He coached the quarterbacks during the 1995 season and served as the defensive coordinator and defensive secondary coach in 1996. Els also filled the roles of recruiting coordinator, academic coordinator and sports information director during the two-year span. Els got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Northern Iowa in 1989. He was in charge of the linebackers and assisted with the defensive secondary. Beginning in the fall of 1990, Els served four years as an assistant at his alma mater, Nebraska-Omaha, where he coached the defensive secondary. His time at UNO also included strength and conditioning, academic and video coordinator duties. Els had one more stint with Northern Iowa before getting started at Hastings. He instructed the defensive secondary as a restricted earnings coach for the NCAA I-AA playoff qualifying Panthers in 1994. A Lincoln, Neb., native, Els and his wife, Jane, have three children - Julie, Taylor and Bo
  9. Yeah, whatever. We were saying that a decade ago. Except we reloaded and captured a couple more MNCs. Not just top-10 finishes. Ya, because 10+ years ago really matters today? While I love our history, its just that..... history. We are no where near the team or program we were in the 90's, but I am hopefull we are building back up to that. Throwing out NC's from 10-30 years ago as a reason why we are better than another team, reminds me of Michigan/Notre Dame fans (which makes me sick to think about).
  10. Lol, game over! Nice response.
  11. ah, didnt even think of Mike Singletary for LB coach, nice choice!
  12. Offensive Scheme: Spread Option Offensive Cord: Gus Malzahn Line Coach: Mike Munchak QB Coach: Scott Frost RB Coach: Tim Beck WR/TE Coach: Erik Campbell / Bruce Walker Defensive Scheme: 4-3 Defensive Cord: Bo or Carl Pelini Def Line Coach: Rick Petri LB Coach: Dat Nguyen DB Coach: Marvin Sanders Head Recuiter: Tommy Thigpen
  13. With all the coaching posts and the amount of arm chair coaches we have here, I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of staff they would put together for N next year in the B10(12) Offensive Scheme: Offensive Cord: Line Coach: QB Coach: RB Coach: WR/TE Coach: Defensive Scheme: Defensive Cord: Def Line Coach: LB Coach: DB Coach: Head Recuiter: I just thought of this question, so I will post my list once I get it completed. This is just for fun!
  14. Junior - Yes, both OL and DL did get man handled. I was utterly speechless when a single guy was pushing Crick around. But again, same linemen that played against UW the first time, KSU, etc. You can’t tell me that SDSU had better linemen then KSU, UW, etc. So why the huge difference? Look, I don’t think it’s all Taylor's fault for his crappy games. This is a team sport, it takes 11 men doing their job to be effective. How many times did we see missed blocks, receivers dropping the ball, running backs fumbling? Everyone makes mistakes. I think with Martinez (like you said earlier, Junior), we didn’t see any progression from start to finish, and that worries some people, including me. Honestly, I am just tired of people making excuses for Taylor. He sucked it up in about half his games, plain and simple. It’s part of the game and part of growing as a freshman QB. I don’t think he should leave or be moved to another position. I just hope that he really does learn from his mistakes and gives Cairnes, Green and possibly Turner a run for their money in fall camp. Competition breeds excellence!
  15. Kapplc - nope. Just clarifying that he didn’t stun everyone until he was hurt. Everyone blames it on his injury, but what was the excuse for SDSU? He said he was playing devil’s advocate, I was just playing along
  16. BIG RED HUSKER N4Life REDPWR Lil Red f#*k TX SUUUHH just a few off the top of my head
  17. "The first game of the season Martinez as the starter he stuns every Husker fan in the stadium with is spectacular performance which he carried that through 7 games until his 8th start against Mizzou when he got hurt" Umm, maybe you didnt watch all the games? I was at the SDSU game this year and he didnt "stun" anyone with his "spectacular performance".
  18. 1. Jimbo 2. Dan Mullen 3. Mulzahn 4. Tubberville/Patterson/Peterson/Spurrier 5. Pelini
  19. Someone had this pic of him on page 2........ made me spit out my coffee through my nose. Burned a little, but damn funny.
  20. Not sure how they do it in Ohio, but here at N a mans word actually means something. I bet if Tom O. made that promise, it would have happened. We aren't Missouri, this isn't Texas. Doesn't matter if its a big deal or not. If your word doesn't carry any weight, its worthless. Personally, he should have just given the Sailor the field pass and the jersey and left it at that. He put himself out there (joke or not) and is now paying for it. Dumb, dumb, dumb! I love Bo as a coach, but he needs to understand, he is a head coach now. He need to control his temper, stop being snarky with the media and think about what he says. He is a young coach, he is going to make mistakes. I am fine with that as long as he learns from it and moves on (the same as he expects out of his players)
  21. Well, loyalty is a double edged sword. Pelini and the Huskers are built on loyalty, but us "fans" want him to go against what he preaches to the kids - to fire Watson. Its a no-win situation for Pelini to fire Watson. He keeps Watson = He looks incompetent to fan and recruits. Questions come up (does he have the balls to fire him? Is T.O. running the show?, etc) He fires Watson = He looks like a hypocrite (extremely detrimental to his image among players, recruits and some fans) There is only one happy ending for everyone involved, and Pelini is doing just that. Stay loyal to Watson until they can find him another job. While I agree Watson, Cotton and Gilmore need to go, it needs to be done the right way. It needs to be done the N way. Rome wasnt built in a day.
  22. I highly doubt this would happen, but an interesting thought... Beck goes co-OC and stays with RB's, and Frost comes in as QB coach and co-OC. Again, I dont think either has proven to be a capable OC. But it would be an interesting situation, to say the least.
