What negates it to me is we had 1 hard fought game against them. To me, a rivalry is a long series of games that are hard fought. We've been blown out by Wisconsin 3 times and beat them once. The Iowa games have also been close, but we've won 3 out of 4. A rivalry to me can't have lots of lopsided wins and an unbalanced win-loss record.

I don't understand why you're assigning discrete numbers to these things. If I'm understanding right, 2 teams can get a 0.25 in the same category even if they have different numbers for that category. It makes more sense to me to use their ranking in each and divide by the total number of teams. For example if Nebraska is 25th in pass defense then their number would be 25/118 (or however many teams there are)

Well that's severely disappointing... It's not the case though. If we beat them we'll be 4-1 against them since joining the conference. If we lose then they will be closer to becoming a rival.

Have sacks been factored in as runs or passes in this math? Because if one takes the 24 sacks with the -162 yards and count them as pass plays instead of running plays, it looks like 6.22 yards per rushing attempt and 6.77 yards per passing attempt. That's very true. Nebraska's running game is actually better than the 4.7 number would imply, because it shouldn't be responsible for the sack total. But are you not comparing their running game to your perception of what a good running game is, based on what other teams have done in the past? Teams whose running stats include sack yards?

Starting both of your scoring drives from your opponent's 6 and 32 yard lines helps keep the total yards down. It was a very stingy defense out on the field yesterday, and I hope we can continue to see that against Iowa. They've been in some dogfights week in and week out, which like Michigan State, makes you question how good they really are much like Nebraska's close losses makes you question how bad we really are. As I said with Michigan State in the week leading up to the game, there is bound to be some regression towards the mean: Iowa's more than likely not as good as they've been playing this season and Nebraska's more than likely not as bad as they've been playing this season. Playing at home with a chance to knock off another undefeated team, Top 10 team, and a chance to get to .500 on the year by winning their final three games, I'm thinking this team will be fired up and play a really solid game. One thing's certain: the crowd is going to be into this one, even if it is at 11am. I thnk we are a better team than Iowa, but we shoot ourselves in the foot too often. We can beat Iowa, but I think the game is a toss up. That makes us not a better team. Maybe potentially a better team. Still think we will beat them though.

Here's one very easy and specific example. Multiple studies have been done to show that when looking at job applications with the exact same resume and experience, employers are much more likely to hire someone with a white anglo-saxon sounding name compared to someone with a black sounding name. Look into socioeconomic status, and how important it is in a child's development. Low SES kids start off with less knowledge when they begin kindergarten because their parents are less likely to have graduated high school or college. I saw a study once that showed low SES children at the age of 2 know far less words than children of middle class parents. To see how this relates to the question: Another important thing is how our schools are funded. A large part of it is based on income in the area. So the $ spent on educating poor kids is a lot less than the $ spent on educating middle class and wealthy kids. And again, looking at the chart shows how it relates to some races not getting what "other races get." This is a vicious cycle because, since the kids start off on the wrong foot, and then they go to schools with a lot less funding, they themselves are less likely to graduate high school or go to college. Im not talking about outside of college. Im talking about in college. What are they not receiving that others are? Alot of colleges have standards, especially private ones. If you dont have the grades to get in then thats the way it is. The problem is at the elementary/high school level. I don't know. I don't know whether they are often discriminated against or not, by the universities or by the people they go to college with. What I do know is that there are going to be people who imagine it or lie about it. On the other end of the spectrum, it annoys the crap out of me when people just assume that's what's happening and write everything off by saying "they're treated just as good as we are!" That isn't something we actually know. IMO many of the demands that are being made are for extra help (ex. the increased retention stuff) which I'm okay with because of what I posted about how a large % of minority populations start their lives off. So, are they demanding lowering the standards for everyone? Let's say I am a white student from a home with pathetic parents. Do I get special treatment? Everyone needs to make dang sure discrimination does not exist in admissions and once in school. But, you have a private school that some want to force to have lower standards for black kids? I don't think making attempts to improve attrition for groups that have bad attrition is lowering standards for the groups that have good attrition. Same goes for some of the other things they want changed. One I'm not sure of (from Missouri) is increasing the % of black professors to 10. If blacks consist of 12% of the population and have a poor graduation rate, I'm not sure where that 10% of the faculty is going to come from. Imagine if they wanted that everywhere. If they did manage to get 10% of the faculty to be African American, chances are they wouldn't all be well qualified.

Not sure I've EVER been excited for us to play Iowa...And my favourite Nephew in Law is a Hawkeye fan...I probably get more excited when Iowa State beats them... But I won't miss this one...whenever it is...Black Friday? Me either, but Iowa's never been 11-0 when we played them. I always wanted Colorado/Kansas State/Missouri/whoever to be undefeated when we played them, and then I was excited about it regardless of our record. Iowa's never been 11-0, period. I didn't realize that. I had to go look at all their seasons. I knew they were decent for a few years here and there and always knew who Hayden Fry was. That was about the extent of my knowledge. Their best record before this season as far as I can tell was 9-0. So this is literally the best season they've ever had up to this point. It would be so hilarious if we beat them.

Really think it'll be at 2:30. The other option isn't a good game. I'm guessing they're waiting to see if Iowa is still undefeated after Saturday.

Why do people keep calling for a lot more runs from Janovich? The reason his runs work is the element of surprise. I find it unlikely he'd have a good YPC if he ran it much more than he does.
