  1. So you think its fine to punch a guy? Cool. I agree we got our asses kicked. That doesn't make the officiating ok. We would have lost even with great officiating. The officiating still sucked.
  2. Not all of it. We definitely stunk it up. But I feel like it would have been a lot closer. As in a respectable loss, not a blow out loss.
  3. It might be the whiskey talking, but dang. Holding could be called on almost every one of their of their offensive plays. Also, there seemed to be a lot of extracurricular sh*t going on. For example, I believe it was their second touchdown, when the running back punched Fisher (not 100% sure who the defender was) in the helmet. If the officiating is going to be this bad every week, we would have been better off in the Big 12.
  4. I think what they mean by "big ten football" is all of the holding....
  5. Really? Because a 50 yarder at an angle is easy?
  6. If you do go that route, let me know. I can try to help you find tickets. I have a lot of out of state friends who usually sell their tickets for about $25.
  7. If you don't mine standing the whole game, & sitting in the student section, student tickets will be cheap. A lot of students leave Lincoln for Thanksgiving, so it would pry be about $30 per ticket, plus $50 to validate it.
  8. The athletic department knew about the violations months ago. There were student-athletes who had to pay a couple hundred dollars to charity within a couple days or miss athletic contests (I know baseball and track and field athletes were in this situation, I don't know about any other sports), because once the athletic department had knowledge, the athletes were ineligible until the money was paid to a charity. I'm assuming they didn't release the story right away because they wanted to find out who should be held responsible before self-reporting.
  9. The "recommended" and "required" text book designation is just stupid. Its up to the individual professors as to what is recommended and what is required. One professor may say a textbook is the only thing required while another may require the textbook and solutions manual. Any other textbook scholarship allows you to get recommended books using the scholarships. The athletes really got no extra benefit, as most recommended books are available in resource centers - you just can't take them home with you. This whole issue was just messed up. Any student can go into the bookstore and ask for help finding books for a class, it was the bookstore employees who mistakenly gave the athletes the recommended books, even when specifically asked if they were covered under athletic scholarships.
  10. I don't know what his major is, but Sean Fisher has been in several different science classes (Biochem, Organic Chemistry).
  11. The statue is currently sitting on the north-east side of the stadium, by the flag poles if you want to check it out.
  12. I hurt my ankle pretty bad playing basketball almost 8 years ago. I must have tweaked it when I was walking to class yesterday, because it was hurting me to the point where I was limping for a while. Ankle injuries are something that can stay with you for a long time. I can't imagine Martinez's ankle standing up to the kind of stress football entails; making cuts, twisting when getting tackled, etc. Most people fail to realize the lingering effects of ankle injuries, once its been injured, its much more likely to become re-injured. While I'm sure that's very interesting, your anecdotal experience does not mean Taylor Martinez will re-injure his ankle. I was attempting to show that even with months of rehab and time, it is still extremely difficult to get back to pre-injury health.

  14. Harvey also broke his hand in practice a little over a week ago. I didn't get a good look, but he had either a small cast or a brace of some sort on his right hand.
  15. I believe he won the award for the MVP of the scout team. So he did back it up there. He was my favorite signee from his class based on his video from high school. Looking for big things from him for 3 to 4 years. I remember reading a quote from his HS coach and he said he is the fastest player to ever play at his high school or that he has coached. Doesn't mean much but he must be pretty fast for that label or words of praise. It's all just words until it shows up on the field. I remember how Zac Lee was going to make us all forget that we'd ever heard of Joe Ganz. Show me. He was pretty darn good, 73% completion percentage when he was healthy...all of 2 games. Against crappy competition. Joe Ganz was not anything special, he threw his share of INT's too. Zac played pretty darn good in the Holiday bowl a couple years ago as well. Injury prone ever since he got here. My buddy used to work with the QB's while he was on staff with the huskers as a student manager. He always told me that Zac Lee had the best TOOLS to work with. The only thing that held him back from being great was the injury factor, and dumb decisions on changing the play before the snap. Right . . . Edit: Ganz 65% completions, 44 touchdowns, 18 interceptions, 157 qb rating. Lee 58% completions, 14 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 124 qb rating. The facts don't seem to support your downplaying of Ganz and exaggerating of Lee. Carlfense: What did Streeter say that you disagree with? He said that Lee had the best TOOLS, not necessarily the best career.
  16. The number it takes to get a scholarship varies year to year based on how many applicants there are from in-state with high ACT scores. Really you'd need a very strong profile outside of the 30 to get it. You would be well off to get a 32+ to improve your chances. I know people with 32s who were not given regents scholarships. That is simply not true. My daughter averaged a 31 and got one. I believe it is ACT and class rank alone. There is not a set amount of scholorships. On UNL's website (http://www.unl.edu/scholfa/All-University.shtml), I didn't see any actual requirements, but this is the information given: "Incoming freshmen will be awarded scholarships based upon their academic profile which takes into consideration their high school rank in class at the end of the sixth semester as well as their highest composite score on the ACT or SAT examinations." If I remember correctly, a 30 on the ACT is the minimum for a Regents, but a higher score will improve chances of receiving the scholarship as a limited number are given out to students of a single school (for example a student from a class C school has a better chance of receiving it due to less competition than a student from a class A school). Class rank being in the top 5% is a requirement no matter what the ACT score is. Another thing to consider when looking at average ACT/SAT scores is that UNL does not require an SAT for admission, or scholarships.
  17. Unfortunately, from what I've gathered, Alex has actually possibly dropped his draft stock during the post season events this year, so he could've performed his way out of getting drafted. I've heard the same with Pierre Allen... Was unimpressive at Senior Bowl, didn't work out at combine (IIRC). Out of all the positions though, teams should put the least stock into the off the field performances of kickers. It's all about what you can do on the turf. You can either put the ball between the pipes or you can't. Alex has definitely proven he can (moreso than any other kicker we've ever had, anyway), so if I'm a GM, I'm definitely looking at him in the late rounds... if I've done my homework. They don't call him the Skinny Assassin for nothing. The NFL does use a different kickers football, and I think Alex has had some trouble adjusting to it. It will most likely just take some time for him. I feel like the two biggest positives for Alex are that he is clutch, and he can also punt.
  18. The players will still be allowed to practice, just not play. It looks like Tressel will be able to do everything except coach during games.
  19. Our bowling team is actually very, very good. Although that doesn't really answer your question.
  20. As far as the posts that have suggested poor ACT scores mean that Heard will struggle if/when he gets to UNL, there are tons of academic resources for student-athletes. There are academic counselors, tutors, etc. Never underestimate how much it helps to spend two hours a week with an excellent tutor. I had a high GPA and ACT out of high school, but struggled a lot with Calc II at UNL. Luckily, my roommate is a math major, & was willing to help me out. Even a little bit of help can make a huge difference.
  21. I'm about 95% sure its Bree-on Car-nez. I don't know him personally though. As a side note, people from Aurora usually pronounce it Brock-uh-myer or Brock-a-myer.
  22. The bolded part is spot on. I heard a story about Eric Martin signing a poster for some benefit in Lincoln; he used a black sharpie. Some of you may not get why that is a justification for me saying is isn't the brightest bulb, but he signed the poster on the black border around the poster and didn't understand why it was a big deal. TMart is his biggest fan. TMart likes TMart. To answer your question, I have heard great things about Carnes. His teammates say he is like a Michael Vick. Which is very high praise. Who cares if Martin isn't the brightest? A good friend who lived on Prince's floor last year said he was a really nice guy, but not exactly the sharpest crayon in the box. I think we would all agree Prince is doing alright for himself.
  23. You mean like flaming on a Husker board? That type of emotional childishness? He's not a multi-million dollar head coach of one of the most prestigious football programs of all time on national TV. The venue is slightly different. Hypocrisy is hypocrisy, at whatever level. You are calling me a hypocrit? I think not. I coach at the high school level here in Nebraska, and I would NEVER act the way Pelini does, and if it ever were to happen, it would be in the locker room. You are a baby, and are really in denial, go back to your mothers teet kid. Are you a head coach or an assistant coach? The head coach has a lot more leeway with how he acts. If Carl had been acting like Bo, I bet Bo would have gotten on his case.
  24. Hopefully Bo is sacrificing to the football gods right now cause they apparently despise us. Its Fr. Matya from the Newman Center. He is the team chaplain (I don't know what the official title is), but he is on the sidelines every game, & travels with the team to away games.
