  1. How about the sweet black high top converse turf shoes? Let's get those back!!!
  2. I'll take terrible offseason threads for $800, Alex.
  3. You are meaning just in football correct? Cause last time I checked, we have been successful in volleyball, GBB, softball, at times in baseball and both track teams seem to be doing fairly well. As far as the AAU, we would have lost it no matter what. We had been fighting to stay in it for 10 years prior to losing it. It was a no-win situation. Maryland and Rutgers were brought in because of TV sets, that is pretty much it. I mean in sports that generate revenue for the conference - football and basketball. Volleyball has been incredibly successful, unfortunately, that doesn't really mean much in the financial picture. It's a hard sell to say that Nebraska creates a lot extra money when the contracts are renewed. I know the AAU thing is completely out of our control and it was inevitable, but I would hear all the time how every Big 10 school was an AAU member. TV sets were exactly the reason why Rutgers and Maryland were added, which makes me wonder why we were added just a couple years before. It definitely wasn't for the number of TV sets in the state. We were told it was because of the prestige the program. That prestige is not trending up right now. You're right, there just aren't that many TV sets in Nebraska. However, there are loads and loads of Nebraska fans everywhere you go. I live in the Denver metro area and every single Fox and Hound is a Nebraska watch site and they are all packed on game days. That's just one city with one restaurant chain. Back in the '80s there was a group in Anchorage that made a long distance phone call each game day so they could listen to the radio broadcast of the game. Back then long distance phone calls to the lower 48 were not cheap, I know, I was stationed up there and spent plenty of coin talking to friends and family. There are Husker fans all over the country. We bring plenty of eyeballs to the TV sets. Hopefully we can get the AAU thing resolved and get back in. We spend plenty of research dollars, we just don't spend enough of them in Lincoln. Doubtful. The AAU considers things like "How Homeric verse influenced the Italian mural painting post-Michelangelo" as being more valuable than say, increasing crop yields so we can eat. We need to start spending some of medical research dollars in Lincoln. We spend plenty, it just isn't in the right places from a geographical standpoint. If we could count all the medical research dollars spent in Omaha we would have never been considered for removal.I think that the problem is because UNMC is considered a separate entity than UNL. Not geography. That and the fact that agricultural research isn't counted for some asinine reason. Nebraska is doing just fine without the AAU, and doing important research to boot. The AAU has some weird rules. I could be wrong on this but I seem to recall that it's because the medical school is in Omaha and not in Lincoln with UNL.You are mostly correct. They don't consider UNMC part of UNL, as its treated as a separate school in the University of Nebraska system. I also think there is an issue that the AAU doesn't "count" the ag research that is done at UNL, which is a bunch of horse hockey.
  4. There were 7 busses that were escorted by UNL police from Lincoln to Grand Island, so I would say a lot of them.
  5. Apparently it's not what it's ALL about, because those sports still exist. If it was all about generating revenue, football and men's basketball would be the only college sports around. Technically it still could be ALL about the revenue and the other sports just exist to satisfy Title IX. If that were the case we'd only have 2 men's sports and enough women's to create a balance.A lot of colleges and universities have cut men's sports in order to comply with Title IX. I have nothing against with Title IX, but they shouldn't count football in the numbers. There isn't a female sport that has the scholarship numbers that football does, so it automatically creates a large imbalance.
  6. Their Aggies, that's why it happens.
  7. If NU loses to Indiana, it's Purdue part 2. #Unacceptable
  8. UNL is my alma mater, so I "support" all their athletic teams. I don't give them extra monetary support, other than the occasional game ticket or apparel purchase. My support is made up of cheering for all the teams and wanting them to do well. I will watch every football game and a lot of the basketball games on TV. I follow the baseball team on Twitter, and pay attention to the volleyball team during their season. As I have gotten older, I have become less critical of the players and direct my criticism to the coaches. To me, the players are kids (yes, I consider them kids, I know a lot don't) who are just playing a sport while they are getting their education.
  9. I would imagine if there was going to be an announcement this week, it has been delayed due to the Foltz passing. It's probably not the right time for all the kids to be freaking out over sweet alternate uni's. Makes sense, I'm hoping they can come up with something to honor Foltz somehow! I'm sure there will be a helmet decal or jersey patch.

  11. Good luck to him. Even if he doesn't latch on to a team after training camp, he will have some cool experiences that not many people get to have.
  12. So much for the "Different campus" each week. I would also think that Nebraska/Oregon would be a lot more hype then anyone playing Colorado. It was a joke schedule. Also, the first road-show is scheduled for 9/24, which is the first week of the conference schedule.
  13. Not a bad idea, especially since ESPN goes to SEC locations for half of their College Gameday appearances.
  14. Nice move and gesture. Maybe all west punters wear #27 and all east punters wear #3 for this year. I understand your thought, but I am not a fan of telling other people how to pay tribute or how to react to these deaths. Let people decide on their own how they want to deal with things.
  15. I agree - I think this fundraiser is sketchy. Maybe well intentioned, but I don't get the impression that it's been well thought out, I messaged the planner and have yet to hear back. I'm sure that in the last 24 hours since the accident the person hasn't gotten UNL and the Foltz family's approval to raise money in his name and there's already almost $1k in the account (unless it's a family member, and from the content on the site that doesn't seem to be the case). I think it's insensitive to the family. It took YEARS before Brook was honored, and that was done by the university to my knowledge. After living through the Boston Strong fund raiser here as well as others that get started after tragedies, it's all too fresh, people will take advantage of others who just want to do "something". Also, I don't think the University was putting up a "Brook Berringer Statue". It was a statue for Osborne, and they artist wanted to include a player with TO. I think it was Osborne who recommended that they use a #18 to represent Berringer. I could be wrong, but I think that's how it went down.
  16. If they want to make a tribute to Foltz, I think NU should add his name to the Berringer Citizenship Award. That would be more fitting than a statue. I think the whole statue idea is an attention grab by the people running the gofundme page.
  17. Not to be a buzzkill, but isn't it a bit soon to think about a statue in Foltz's memory? The guy passed barely a day ago. I know he was a great player and a great guy, but it just feels too soon.
  18. Samuel McKewon ‏@swmckewonOWH 25m25 minutes ago Former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini sent out a statement Monday about Sam Foltz. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/bo-pelini-on-sam-foltz-i-was-privileged-to-be/article_a9342162-52a5-11e6-9f84-d317b9559802.html … #huskers
  19. This sucks. Great player, even better person (from what I hear, I have never met him).
  20. From my recollection, Osborne was still quite involved in that '98 recruiting class. In '04, I believe there was some recruit turnover, and Solich certainly didn't stay involved in the recruiting after his firing. That's flawed logic. You either assign the recruiting classes to all the former coaches, or you don't. You are being inconsistent.
  21. They will regress record wise but they will be competitive. Better on offense for sure. Thorson and Jackson are back, and Justin Jackson btw might be the most under rated RB in the country. I am just not very high on Northwestern. If you look at their record the past 20 years, they spike for 1 season, and then fall back for the next 2-3 seasons. Fitzgerald is a good coach, but I wonder when he's going to leave NW for a big payday. I know that NW is his alma mater, and it may be his dream job. But, one of these years, he's going to get offered a huge contract from a big school or NFL job. Once Fitz leaves, I don't see NW remaining "competitive" in the Big Ten. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Northwestern_Wildcats_football_seasons
  22. Swift was a Solich recruit. He signed with Nebraska after his firing.
  23. Crouch signed in the '97 class and redshirted, so he was an Osborne recruit.
