  1. I'm not trying to make it a Bo argument. I am saying "which record would you rather have". It's not a Bo/Riley thing. I wanted Bo gone, and I don't want him back.
  2. Adam Rittenberg was on Mike'l Severe's show today, he is a national college football writer, so he isn't just focused on the Big Ten or just Nebraska football. Severe commented that some fans are treating the Michigan State win as the biggest win since Oklahoma 2001. Now, rankings-wise, it might be close. But Rittenberg made a great point. Nebraska has had a number of big wins in the past number of years, in order to get into conference title games that they did achieve. Those games that NU won had a lot riding on them for Nebraska. The Michigan State game had NOTHING riding on it for Nebraska and Riley. There wasn't a trip to the conference championship game or a major bowl at stake. NU was in a no-lose situation. If NU loses to Michigan State, it's record would have been 3-7 rather than 4-6. Those are still very bad seasons, record-wise. I think Riley has been able to pull off a lot of "big upsets" during his time at Oregon State is that those teams really had nothing to lose. In 2009 and 2013, Oregon State was in contention in the Pac 10/12 and they lost when the games mattered.
  3. The Purdue game was an absolute embarrassment.
  4. Purdue blew NU out, and Miami pretty much did too, until Miami stopped playing.
  5. I guess this is a lot better than appearing on some Bottom 10 lists a couple times earlier in the season.
  6. Let's say NU is able to win the last 2 games of the regular season. I know that's a big if, but NU will have finished the regular season at 6-6, but two wins over teams that were ranked in the top ten. But, what if the season was like a typical Bo season. I am not saying Bo is the coach, but Riley is still the coach. Instead of losing to BYU, Illinois, Northwestern, and Purdue, Riley is able to win all of those games, but still loses to Miami, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Iowa (any team with a pulse). The wins are all pretty comfortable wins with 1 or 2 close wins, and the losses are 1 blowout with 3 close losses. As a fan, what would you deem is the "better season"?
  7. I agree with you in that sentiment. The Purdue game plan is probably the worst game plan this year. Completely baffling.
  8. Imani struggles if he has to "pick and choose" on a hole. But, if the hole is predetermined and the o-line makes the blocks, then he is a very solid RB. He was key throughout the game getting 4-7 yards on first down carries to keep the game manageable. As we have seen throughout the season, as soon as Langsdorf sees a negative running play, there isn't another run play called for a number of plays.
  9. 55 points given up to Purdue is the result of an anemic offensive game plan? Purdue has scored a total of 55 points in 4 games against the other Big Ten opponents this season.
  10. I am so sick of this argument. Tommy can just as easily take a hit in the pocket than he can doing some running in the open field. I am not calling for 15-20 carries by Tommy, but 6-8 designed QB runs along with another 2-3 on QB scrambles (on designed pass plays) would be nice to see. Defense is harder to play when it's forced to play 11 on 11.
  11. Tommy Armstrong is not a problem on this team. Yes, he's limited, but he makes a lot of plays out there. I wish the coaches would use him more in the run game, but that's not Langsdorf's/Riley's strength in coaching.
  12. The defense that is built to beat Wisconsin or Iowa isn't going to mean anything if it allows Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, Minnesota, and other teams to roll up and down the field. Smart offenses may say "let's try to establish the run" in the first quarter, but then decide "let's throw the ball every down" after they realize how easy it is to pass against the Banker D.
  13. I am not trying to "defend Bo", but whenever someone has something to "defend Banker" the only defense is how Bo's D fared against Wisconsin and other teams that have punishing run games. I understand what a defense needs to be strong in the Big Ten. However, just because Banker's scheme focuses on the run game, doesn't make it an inherently good defense. The scheme allows for guys to pass it too easily. The scheme allowed Joel Stave to look like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning rolled into one package. I don't like a defense that is predicated on a QB "messing up". QB's are good enough at the collegiate level to make the necessary throws.
  14. I constantly see this argument that the D has been terrible for years. Yes, there were plenty of games under Bo where the D was absolutely terrible, but it wasn't "every game". The problem with Banker's D is that EVERYONE has had big games against the Banker D this year. Almost every opponent has gained more yards against Nebraska than their average total offense for the season. I am not sure where it is in the "scoring defense", but I am sure the past 3 opponents have scored more than their average. Purdue scores 55 against NU in one week, and then 10 points against Illinois the next week. Yes, Bo had complete failures against Wisconsin twice, UCLA, and a few other games. However, with Banker's D they are a complete sieve. Against Michigan State, the Spartans went FG, TD, INT, TD, TD, TD, TD in a span of 7 possessions. That's not good.
  15. He would probably want at least 1 or 2 guys that he's comfortable working with. This question is meaningless because Banker isn't getting fired. Riley honestly thinks it's a good scheme and Banker is putting his players in position to succeed. In Riley's mind, it's the players not fully "getting" the system.
  16. I think the reason for the high substitution rate is that these guys are often running dead sprints in pass routes the majority of the time they are in the game. Then when they do get a reception they are exerting more energy running the with ball and taking a hit. I think it's common practice to rotate the top 4-6 receivers during the game, and then that could go deeper with injuries and other items.
  17. Are guys actually being happy with an "Oregon State" season? I know I'm not. The win against Michigan State was great. It felt really good. However, it doesn't take away the losses to BYU, Illinois, Purdue, and Northwestern.
  18. I'm not going to go out of my way to blow Eichorst for this comment. He knows a new Chancellor is on the way. I do give credit for not talking a new contract until the new Chancellor comes on board.
  19. Cross had a great game. He ran tough, got north-south and his 5-7 yard carries were big to keep the offense humming. I was pissed at Langsdorf for going to 3 straight passes after Cross lost 2 on a first down carry in the 3rd quarter. Yes, one pass was a long pass to Reilly to the 4, but Langsahan didn't go back to Cross inside the 5 and TA threw his pick on 2nd down. Cross got a lot of help from the o-line and Jano had some great blocks at the point of attack. Imani did his job of getting positive yards. Good job.
  20. Bad call, yes. I still don't care. Nice win, boys. GBR!!!
  21. Michigan State got Bankered tonight.
  22. To ensure the players aren't out drinking and partying the night before and they can get the team to the stadium as a full team on Saturday. It's a lot easier to do bed checks and team meetings on Saturday morning in a team hotel.
  23. I always got the impression that Ozigbo and Stevenson were never exactly on friendly terms, mainly from the way Ozigbo reacted when he found out we picked up Stevenson. At the end of the day though, I think Ozigbo may pan out to be the better RB, and he's the one who stuck with us, so more power to him. Yep. Ozigbo was pissed but put his head down and went to work and it is paying off to an extent.Yet there were plenty of fans bitching at Ozigbo for sharing his feelings that he was upset when Stevenson was brought in. I credit for Ozigbo for putting in the work to put himself high on the depth chart.
  24. The teams have to stay in a place with enough rooms to accommodate 70 players, coaching and training staff, athletic department officials, and anyone else the school wants to be in the travel party. The hotel also needs to have full meeting and banquet room facilities. That limits the number of hotels that can be used, and most of those are found in Omaha.
