  1. I expect Abdullah to remain healthy, but if he were to miss any time with injuries it will be interesting to see who will step up and be the man behind the man. It was Rex's injury in 2012 that allowed Ameer to showcase the abilities that he carried into 2013. I am not hoping or saying Ameer will get hurt, but things can happen.
  2. I will throw out Tony Veland from the mid 90s teams. Not many guys can tear up a knee, move from QB to defense, and then play at an All-Conference level. He may have lost his offensive QB job to Frazier, but Veland was the QB of the defense.
  3. Among 1980s I-backs Ken Clark doesn't get mentioned very often. He wasn't as fast as Jones, wasn't the all-around guy like Rozier, and didn't have the NFL career that Craig had. All Clark did was produce. His rushing duel against Barry Sanders in 1988 was amazing. Not much defense was played that day.
  4. Always such a what if, if DuBose didn't tear up his knee. Keith Jones was a great fill-in, but DuBose could have been special. The '84 defense carried that team to the brink of a championship. There just wasn't a capable QB after 3 years of Gill.
  5. He never seemed out of position. Like ever. It was amazing. That INT in the 2009 Big XII Title game (should have been) legendary. Gomes also had that sweet INT against Mizzou in the rain where he jumped the out route and took it down the sideline to set up a score.
  6. I might switch to the Titleist NXT Tour ball, just because the ProV1's are so darned expensive. I might also look at the top levels of other brands, but I have always preferred playing Titleist. If I find a Pinnacle or a Rock Flight on the course, I will either throw them into a pond or stash them in my bag for my son to use down the road.
  7. Of course the ball "fitting" sponsored by Bridgestone is going to sell him Bridgestone golf balls. He's not going to recommend your friend that he gets Titleist or Callaway. The average golfer isn't going to tell the difference between the highest level of ball from each brand. The top ball from Titleist, Taylor Made, Callway, Bridgestone, Nike, etc. are all going to feel and react the same. Also, most golfers don't have the swing speed to necessitate the "higher" level ball like a ProV1 or whatever the other brands call their balls. One thing that has led to the amount of time it takes to play golf is that the average golfer spends WAY TOO MUCH TIME looking for a ball in the weeds, trees, etc, when he spent $50 for a dozen golf balls. The average golfer would be better off buying the $25-30 golf ball, and saving us all some time on the course. Myself, I like to play the Titleist ProV1. It's just personal preference for me. I like the feel I get in my short game. I will buy the "logo overruns" ProV1s that some stores offer for $15-20 cheaper per dozen. They are the exact same ball, they just have a logo on the side. Some of the logos are super small, and I don't even notice them. As I said above, I could probably play the mid-level ball and not notice a huge difference. I guess I am a golf-ball snob.
  8. He's one Bad Mother Rucker!!! You could add the Kelsay brothers to this list, as well. NU was certainly spoiled at the Rush End position in the 90's.
  9. I think Steve Warren was underrated. He was an All-Conference player, but wasn't as vocal as Jason Peter, so he didn't get the hype/attention that Peter did. Warren just did his job at a very high level.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. If I think of an underrated QB, Gerry Gdowski is the first to pop in my head.
  11. I love the speculation that just because Gregory took out an insurance policy he is going to turn into a lazy player who isn't going to try hard. Give the kid a break. He did something smart to protect his future earning power.
  12. I think it's funny when some people are thinking the uniform is "too crazy" while I have heard others complain that it's "too plain". If it is bothering both sides, it is probably just right!!!
  13. For all of those who want a basic black uniform, can someone tell me why? That's the lazy route to go with and it's lame. NU's colors are scarlet and cream (red and white for the laymen). Yes NU has used black as a trim color for some apparel and there are the Blackshirts, but the Blackshirts are just a practice jersey. The traditional game uniforms in the modern era have always been red and white. So, IMO if the team is going to go with an alt uniform, the uniform should be primarily RED!!!
  14. I hate black pants paired with red jerseys. It's a terrible look. The pants are best if they are the same color or a "lighter" color than the jersey.
  15. I thought last year's black jerseys were too forced. I don't mind black as an accent color on alt uniforms but NU's colors are scarlet and cream. Also, go back to 1 TV game a year, 1 pm kick offs, no Husker Vision, and get off my lawn!!!
  16. Personally I would like Under Armour, but Adidas isn't bad and their clothes are comfortable and classy UA isn't bad, but they try to get things too crazy. Notre Dame switched to UA this year, so it will be interesting to see how traditional they stay. The kids do love UA gear.
  17. I like NU's partnership with Adidas. Nike has "too many" schools under their belt, and NU wouldn't be special like they are with Adidas.
  18. Teach, we have your intervention scheduled for this Saturday.
  19. I really like the matte red helmet. It's a nice look.
  20. These are my favorite of the 3 alt uniforms that NU has used the last 3 years. I wasn't a big fan of the black jerseys last year.
  21. Did anyone on this board ever get their haircut at The Captain's Chair in downtown Lincoln. Man, I loved that place. They were great barbers, and their prices were reasonable. They would have magazines that you could read before/during your haircut, and they included Playboy. A friend of mine and I would always joke about being too shy/embarrassed to read a Playboy while getting our hair cut.
  22. Is it really that much of a surprise when a band's/artist's first album is their "best" album. The song writer has had years of angst, experiences, and other items to pull from when writing songs for their first album. Then, if that album is a success, the record label starts pressuring the band to produce a follow-up album within a year or two. Then if the band is also touring, it's not a shocker that band's 2nd and 3rd albums are considered a "weaker product". Look at Pearl Jam (my favorite band of all time) for instance. Ten was released in August 1991, but wasn't a smash hit until early 1992. That album had a number of singles (Evenflow, Alive, Jeremy) that were boosted by MTV, when they still showed music videos. Two of my favorite PJ songs (State of Love and Trust; Breath) are on The Singles soundtrack, and have never been on a Pearl Jam album. The Seattle grunge era was at its full boom at that time. Pearl Jam's next 2 albums were released in October 1993 (Vs.) and December 1994 (Vitalogy). That's 2 more albums in just over a year from each other. While, those albums have some great songs, they don't have the overall "depth" that Ten did. After Vitalogy, PJ got in it's fude with Ticketmaster and their record album. They didn't put too much effort in their work, and their albums suffered. I lost interest in PJ, and I didn't even buy No Code, Yield, Binaural, and Riot Act. I was still able to hear the best songs from those albums on their greatest hits album released in 2004. However, in 2006, Pearl Jam was finally away from the contract with their former record label, they were able to spend time and effort in producing their own album. Their self-titled album released in 2006 is a very good album. I also think their 2 most recent releases (Backspacer in 2009 and Lightning Bolt in 2013) have also been pretty good. The most recent albums from PJ are a testament to the band staying together for 20 years, and developing as song-writers. Most bands will release one good/great album, put out a couple more follow-up albums that aren't as good, and then they break-up.
  23. Cool thread!!! First job I had was as a bus boy in a steak restaurant in Omaha. Took that job after I threw a huge party when my parents were out of town. I basically got grounded and was told to get a job to repay my brothers who had stuff stolen during the party. It was on ok job, other than working pretty late on Friday and Saturday nights. I am sure that was against child labor laws, as I was 15 at the time. I lasted there about 8-9 months before I got sick of it. I then got a job at a hotel in Omaha, setting up tables and other stuff in their conference and banquet rooms. There would be some LONG Saturdays where we had conferences all day, and then had to set up for a wedding reception. It did have a lot of down time where I would talk to my supervisor about gambling and other stuff. My senior year in high school I started working at Finish Line in the Crossroads Mall in Omaha. That was a pretty fun job, and I really liked getting the employee discount on shoes. When I went to college, I was able to come back over Christmas and the summer to work there. I also worked at a different shoe store in Lincoln during college. Everyone would show up on Sundays hung over, and I actually met my wife when I was working there. Also during college, a friend of mine was able to get me a job at a par 3 golf course in Omaha. We would work during the summers in the pro shop. Basically, we would be the starter, concession stand guy, and watch the course. Weeknights were easy because there would be leagues going, so I just sat there while the league took care of itself. It was also nice to get my work done early, and then putt and chip on the putting green while I was waiting for all the golfers to get off the course.
  24. The only time I ever did not tip a server was one time I was out to dinner with my girlfriend in college. We waited forever for our food, and then our server walked by our table and then gave us a look like "Oh Sh%t, I forgot about their food." On the receipt I wrote something like "We know you forgot to put our food order in, that's why you aren't getting a tip." She tried to come explain herself as we were walking out, but it was too late.
  25. I am generally an easy going customer, as long as the server is attentive. It's awful when I am at a bar or restaurant and the server never stops by to ask if I need anything. Yes, I do need that 3rd glass of Coke, thank you!!! If I am with my friends, I will have witty banter with the waitress (Teach can attest to this), and then I am sure she spits in my food or worse. I tip around the 20% mark, sometimes more, sometimes less. I usually don't complain unless the service or food is absolutely terrible.
