  1. A more interesting discussion would have been if TO would have allowed Alvarez to clean house and hire a new young and energetic staff that possibly would have kept recruiting going. I'm thinking....no. TO was pretty committed to those guys. At the point of his retirement, it was to a fault. You are correct, but that is part of coaching, these guys go through so much together that it isn't easy to tell family that they have passed their expiration date and that they are no longer needed at said university.
  2. He could have had 3-4 more if he stayed that long. By that time NU was a well oiled machine only to be undone by lazy recruiting and arrogance.
  3. There was never the right timing, so I won't spend too much time thinking about it. Had Dr. Tom not promised the HC gig...we could have conceivably had both Barry and Frank on the same sideline for us. Or both been gone to Wiscy. Fate's a b***h ! And then TO stays on a few more years and either Gill or Bohl take over as HC. A lot of fun alternate histories to play out. Would have been interesting to see how long TO could have sustained the consistency of 10+ wins as the Big 12 era matured. Both of those would have been disasters. I would rather of had Frank as HC than either of them. And of course Alvarez over any of them.
  4. I wonder if he is aware of the new system that was put into action after his playing days called overtime.
  5. Based on what?Big 10 has done the best against the rest of the power 5Similar to my touble with that argument in favor of the SEC during the post season, that's a misleading stat in that in cross-conference match ups may match a top team against a lower tier team. For example, NU's P5 win was against the worst P12 team. northwestern's was against the worst ACC team. Iowa's was against the worst B12 team. Minnesota's was against the P12's second worst team (who is 2-5 overall). Wisconsin's was against an SEC who is fourth in its division. In fact, only Ohio state and Michigan have wins over teams that would be considered among the top in their conference (wisky's win maybe too, but that was while the team was still headed by a now fired coach). I'm just not seeing that as a reliable proxy for strength of conference. How dare we play who was scheduled for us years in advance. At the time Oregon was placed on the schedule they were competing for national titles and winning the PAC 12. The moral of the story is Nebraska has beaten everyone they've played even it hasn't been "pretty". Michigan beat a Colorado team that has dropped off and Ohio State beat OU who isn't the same team from a year ago. Not to mention that we were originally scheduled to play Tennessee and they backed out of it and requested that it get pushed back a decade because it would make their schedule too hard. They replaced us with playing VT in Bristol, Tennessee which was billed as a "neutral" game. The SEC loves to do this, they play on a "neutral" filed against teams like Oregon, USC, in Atlanta and Dallas. The only people that believe that those are neutral sites are those with SEC edumaicatons and ESPN who has $$$$ involved with that conferences success. So replacing Tennessee with Oregon was seen as a step up in competition at the time. Tennessee still isn't very good either, they don't deserve to be ranked, but they are the SEC where it takes 3-4 losses to fall out of the polls.
  6. We need this more??? Do you think they care? We don't even need a spot in a trophy case for the Freedom trophy. Hell, we don't even know how big it is...because WE HAVE NEVER WON IT. Night game, hostile environment (where we can't seem to do anything right)...Halloween Party...if we win, it'll be because we stole it. We haven't been tested. Oregon sucks. They have. That's the difference. They have seen adversity, looked it in the eye and overcome it. If we win, it will be all on Armstrong. He'll have to go JT Barrett and carry the team. I don't think he will. Hope I'm wrong. What the heck is this? Who knows, this pretty much sums up how I felt reading his post.

  8. We win this game and we win the division.
  9. yep That should be easy. Just play the gameday guys questioning their validity in the top 10 and show them that they are 9 point underdogs to a team with no QB.
  10. Their starting QB has 5 TD's and 6 INT's on the season. IDK why everyone thinks that they are so unbeatable. It will be a tough physical game, but I wouldn't call it an upset if/when we do win. Vegas having them as a 9 point favorite right now looks like easy money to me.
  11. Huskers 31 Badgers 13 Rush 134 Pass 247
  12. I agree 100%. This would be the ideal year to beat them in Madison and put them out of their misery as far as this year goes. Maybe that will get a real rivalry started.
  13. I don't know but for me, I feels like how we always denied K-State and Colorado games were rivalries. We aren't holding up our end of the bargain. One main ingredient (at least for me) is a relatively even win/loss split and close competitive games. Sure this may change in the future but since joining the Big Ten we've only beaten them once. I do think the potential is there though. I know some may laugh but NW actually feels rivalryish to me. Lots of NU alumns in Chicago, culturally a lot different, come backs, upsets, close games, unbelievable endings. As for Iowa it's interesting how it's rivalry status seems to fade as you go west from the Missouri even between Omaha and Lincoln. I really couldn't give two sh#ts about Iowa. IMO most years they are on the same level as ISU was and losing to them is just as embarrassing as losing to ISU. They hate us for some reason, but most of the NU fans that I know are very indifferent when it comes to Iowa and this supposed "rivalry."
  14. I didn't see this site quoted on here, but I usually go by college football data warehouse for these type of records. http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/misc/div_ia_wins.php 1
  15. I am with you, I don't care how ugly it may be, just get a win and punch our ticket to Indianapolis.
  16. I know people who had the same reaction about the comic, you aren't alone. It is definitely the most graphic scene of the series. But saying it went too far is nonsense. It went just as far as it needed to. If they copped out and did a cutaway and didn't do the iconic eyeball scene they would have been ridiculed to no end. In all fairness it could have been much worse. The fact that one scene of a show can define so much tells me the producers did the scene justice. Incredibly hard to watch, but so well portrayed. It's about time this show got back on track. That was the most brutal thing I have ever seen on television and that is what made it so awesome. Love Negan as the villain, this show is much better when you have a villain and Negan is already the best villain this show has had so far. Glenn needed to die because he should have died two or three times already and was saved by something ridiculous happening. I liked Glenn's character but the way he has cheated death so far it was time for him to go and it followed the comics. Killing off Abraham was just "catching up" with the comics as he was supposed to be the one who died with the arrow through his eye instead of the female Dr. Now only if they would find a way to get kill off Carol I would be really happy with the show. She is by far the worst character IMO.
  17. If that warrents a 1 game suspension then the entire SEC along with tOSU and Oregon should all get the death penality.
  18. A down B1G?????? You serious, Clark? CM claims to be a realistic poster when in reality he could find something to complain about even if we won the whole thing That seems to be a lot of people on this board. They are still Bolievers, who are still butthurt that Bo and/or Frank or were fired. Unless we have TO come back or give the job to Frost, Gill or someone who "is a Husker" they will never be happy.
  19. There is a lot of sh#t in this thread.. Look at Mechicken's schedule, they have played ONE road game and that was at Rutgers. Mechicken's big win was at home (of course) vs Wisky. A NU win in Madison gives them a better resume than they have. They are way overrated due to the Harbaugh hype. They only play 4 road games all year @ Rutgers, Mechicken State, Iowa and tOSU. No matter what I expect tOSU to blow them out like they did last year as UM is the paper tiger that everyone in the media thinks we are. Um. Michigan has a lot more credit than we do. They have dominating wins over most of their opponents, including a Penn state team who just upset tOSU. A fluke win by PSU doesn't make them a good team. How did that win over MSU make us last year? Colorado was kicking the sh#t out of them until UM hurt CU's starting QB. I didn't see a "dominant" win vs Wisconsin. UM is all hype right now until they beat tOSU in the shoe...good luck with that.

Oh man, comedy is your calling, or alternative universe fantasy writing perhaps. Nah you have a hard dose of reality heading your way in the very near future.
  21. Are you even watching college football this year? The B1G is the best conference in the country and it isn't close.

  23. I would say that a 2 loss Florida State is the most overrated team in the country right now. Their big win is against a 3-4 Ole Miss team and they were blown out by 43 points (could have been much worse if Louisville wanted it to be) and at home to UNC. No way that team is a top 25 team based on results. They may be talented, but the results don't match the talent level. They are the prime example that the pollsters don't like to be proven wrong as FSU was preseason top 3.
  24. If we win the next two games we deserve to be no lower than #2. Wins on the road against Wisky and tOSU is better than anyone else in the country has accomplished to this point to include Alabama. But I can see keeping the defending Champion #1 until they lose.
