  1. Speaking of which, I read somewhere that Todd Peat Jr has a nasty forearm shiver, best on the team. Good at stunning the OL guy.
  2. Unless you get hit under the chin or speared in the side of the helmet you're probably not going to get a concussion form hitting heads on the line. You really dated yourself with the head slap comment, that's been outlawed for a long time. It's probably a better way for someone to get a concussion than "head butting", which is probably a poor choice of words by Cam. I think they are probably being taught to make first contact with the helmet more so than head butt the guy. If you look at any outstanding middle linebacker or D lineman you'll notice that there helmet is scarred up pretty good and it's always from making contact with the other guys helmet. We were always taught that when shading a man to attack the offensive lineman in the V of the neck in the direction we wanted to control. Essentially attack leading with the head up into the armpit just under the chin and your hands on his breast plate inside and outside, once you make contact you basically bench press them to get separation and control, and shuck him when you know where you need to go. The point of leading with the head is to gain more leverage. If you come in lower than your man with your head up you have all your momentum concentrated in that small area and it's much easier to drive up and through him and hopefully knock him off balance so you can have your way with him. So jsneb83 is right it helps to create separation and reestablish the LOS, but I would argue *WARNING SCIENCE AHEAD* that you generate more Power (Power = Work/Time) by engaging with your head and then pressing the defender away because you have increased the amount of Work (Work = Force x Distance) done by increasing the distance over which the Force was applied (Force = Mass x Acceleration). Nerdy I know, but football is all about physics. To add to that one of the sport labs show demonstrated how much more power a lineman had when he had a 45 degree angle when engaging the opponent.
  3. Thanks for the link. Those are some good state to get into. I really like this hire, good hire by Bo I think. Welcome Coach Joseph!!!
  4. That's really dumb. Making contact with the head, hello concussion and more head injuries. Also, allowing a OL to get into your body makes it easier for them to hold you and get away with it. Our DL should be firing off the ball and using their hands to keep blockers off of them. It's no wonder our DL essentially sucked last season. Head-butt is contact with the forehead area, which is pretty hard bone, so I don't think your as likely to get concussed using that part of the head? I do agree that I would rather see them using their hands moreso than their head.
  5. IMO I would prefer a secondary coach that teaches fundamentals and concepts. It fits in with Bo's philosophy to get the kids to know what they are doing and why. Worry about the how later after they are well versed.
  6. I like this guy, make him an offer he cant refuse!
  7. I think we will be in great shape with LB's. I think we have a great shot at Banderas and Ramirez. I think we have a good chance for Courtney Love as we have a commitment from a fellow teammate. I'd love to get Beisel but that's wide open there. But for me that's besides the point. I think Chans is GREAT on the offensive side of the ball and that's where he could make the most difference.
  8. I would love a Ron Zook hire. Great recruiter, tons of experience. Put him up in the box along with Coach Kaz. Zook would be great feeding info down to the sideline. He's seen it all. Put Els on the sideline to do ST coordinating.
  9. Dont think Mike Brown has any coaching experience, but he would be a dynamite guy up in the box. Can't remember how many times coaches have said or I have read that he is great at getting the secondary lined up and diagnosing what they are tying to do. Unfortunately he has no coaching exeperience or recruiting ties. I think we need an ace recruiter. Wouldn't mind getting a guy that could take over recruiting duties so that frees Els up some.
  10. He has pretty good hands could be a WR or DB.
  11. Bench is not that useful of an indicator IMO. They should get rid of it. Jones has had back issues for how many years? Can't workout with back issues.
  12. I think this will take a couple of years to get rolling. I just look for them to keep battling and improving on their execution as this coaching staff converts them into hardcore gritty grinders. Grow some of those younger players, recruit some Stern/Strong speed and more talent on the mound.
  13. About what I expected. I am glad they got some time in for some of the younger kids. Rivers is having a mental block I think. He just can't seem to score. I want to see them give Christopher on a medical scholarship. His knees are gone. Bring in Biggs. If Diaz is back give Fahro's scholarship to Almeida. If not let Fahro in 1) Biggs, Parker, Hillard 2) Young, Moore, Gallegos 3) Talley, Shields, Rivers 4) Ubel, (fahro) Coleman 5) (Diaz), Almeida
  14. It's been years and I don't remember how it went, but there was talk on campus that Crum put out feelers and was interested but our administration decided against it. I think there was concerns about if he ran a clean program or not????....I can't really say I guess. I don't remember for sure.
  15. My guess is more of a kansas offense 50/50. Gets back to his balance comment...
  16. It's awesome to hear that Coach Raymond & Family are loving their experience in Lincoln. Great place to put in roots.
  17. Yes, Nebraska is not a basketball power and has some unique challenges, but it can be done as we have seen a glimpse of that with Coach Nee. I think you have to think big and work your way from there. Just like his previous players T.O. will need to recruit a coach and sell them on the advantages of coming to Nebraska. I think it can be done. Just think Denny Crum was interested at one time, he was a pretty big name at the time.
  18. Here's a far out plan. Not sure if it's a good plan. Tom might want to decide to get some fishing in. He would retire and Boehm would take his spot. Doc would take Boehm's spot. Some of the assistant coaches would move into compliance areas. New coach & some new assistants would be brought in. Not a likely scenario but kind of interesting. I am not so sure T.O is looking at wins & losses but like others have stated, he would be looking at direction. Tangible recruiting results would be number 1 for me. Are top players interested? We should be seeing top 100 type players on the radar and talking about visiting....
  19. Uggh, thanks I think..... This won't be a very close game. NU doesn't match up to MSU at all, they are struggling on the road and they have a fragile psyche. I am guessing MSU will sub early and often. Wouldn't be surprised to see 30+ spread.
  20. There is a lot of merit in this train of thought. The assistants at some of the traditional power basketball schools often have the best recruiting connections. Plus they can name drop to build an association between their background and Nebraska. For example Duke has 2 assistant Head Coaches. Coach K isn't staying forever, one of those guys is probably going to be the heir apparent. They probably know which one it is inhouse. I would try and talk to both of them. The one that is 2nd fiddle, might be interested in starting his own legacy and not want to report to a former peer.
  21. You should keep living either way. Resist the obsession!! Ooops. That was suppose to be an O not an I. I was on the ledge and didn't even know it.
  22. Looks like he would be a very good corner for us.
  23. DB's is a priority for this class. This guy would be a great one to start with.
  24. We have a bigger class to fill, so IMO we are offering more kids and hoping to get more early commits.
