  1. Actually, Buckyville is a net, not a com. Com works when I use by mistake, however.

  3. Ice hockey could be another revenue sport. It certainly is at Wisconsin. The problem is, you'd have to start up two teams - men's and women’s. When Wisconsin restarted hockey in the 1960's it was only a men's program, women’s hockey was added much later. It's a great sport for fans. Last year the men drew 13,226 per game over 22 games at home for essentially a .500 team. In a championship season such as 2006/7 the team averaged 14,440. The season opens tonight against Northern Michigan. In ice hockey many smaller schools, e.g. North Dakota, are major powers. 4. Last minutes of the Badger 2009 win over Duke, the eventual national champs. The Big Ten has won the last two. Now, I suppose, there's a chance for a tie.
  5. I see the OZone has been mentioned for Ohio State and the Gopherhole for Minnesota. The list would be incomplete without those. I really like this board for Michigan and miscellaneous topics: http://www.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?&user=Mabee Better than CNN for fast breaking news. Great off-topic stuff as well as sports. Purdue: (I've been partial to Mr Gridiron, which isn't working today. Haven't been there in a while, maybe it was shut down.) Here's the link in case it was just temporarily down: http://67.15.124.105/forums/MrGridiron/ The best sites for Penn State and Indiana are Rivals. BWI and Peegs. 6. The stats for the game were actually fairly close. Looking at them, (except for the turnovers) one might guess the game was within 10 points. 1st downs were 20-27, yardage was 335 to 486 and return yardage favored Nebraska. Have to clean up those interceptions. Team didn't give up. Almost scored at the end. Probably would have with 30 more seconds.
  7. Later in the game most of the Husker passes were short and out to the flat. Sort of an option pitch, only to a WR. Pretty effective, actually. In no way would I agree that Nebraska "gave up". That last time out was an indication of that. The nice thing is that younger teams tend to get better. Often at a fast pace.
  8. http://www.pbase.com.../2011fbnebraska Thanks to Myles Long. Also - Fan Cam. If you went to the game, find yourself in this photo array: http://www.uwbadgers.com/fancam/
  9. This wasn't a statement directed at NU, it's just a long standing tradition to have students sing the song during the 4th quarter. It starts singing to the track during a timeout or tv break and then it goes to an acapella and bleeds into the game. It's actually really cool to be a part of in the stadium. I personally thought the "big ten football" chant was pretty lame, because well, the big ten is god awful right now.
  10. I've described myself as shocked by last night's result. I expected a one or two score game. 1. Sorry to read that. One of the women in the group I go to NYC bars and watch games with has a good friend who graduated from Michigan. We give her the A-hole chant and then sit down and watch the game and drink with her. Just don't do high fives. 2. 11 players on defense, 11 players on special teams and 10 players on offense are about equal across the two teams, but Russell Wilson is special. We've never had the likes of him at Wisconsin. Not sure he's big enough for the pros, but he certainly has the arm and the head for Sundays. 3. Yep. Barring injuries you do. It's beginning to look like Michigan is your main competition in the western division. Hoke seems to have righted their defense which was truly horrible (and, to be fair, injury riddled) last season. Good luck against the Buckeyes.
  11. Odd stat from UW's loss at MSU last season. Wisconsin was +3 in turnovers. MSU won by only 10, but they would have won by 35 if the turnovers had gone the other way. This is why the game worries me from a UW POV. We had a soft NC schedule and simply weren't ready for a tough game. Could be the same this season. I'd say being able to slow down Martinez missing our quickest DE will be the key to the game for Wisconsin.
  12. Thats not even clever, its just mean. Actually, it started out as a sophomoric mimic of the "tastes great" - "less filling" Miller ad from years ago. Usually starts up when the band plays Swingtown. The various student sections have insulted each other for years. When I was a student, section O was reserved for freshmen. So the chant was O sucks. The kids in O would chant stuff like, N sucks P back at them. When Michigan, coached by Bo Schembeckler, came to town, the chant was O sucks Bo. So now we have the imfamous FU-ES chant that the administration has been trying to eleiminate for years. The aim of the students is to make it loud enough to be heard on national television. Just more fun in Madtown.
  13. Last year, when Wisconsin beat Ohio State which was ranked #1 at the time, they made a big deal about how the Badgers hadn't defeated a #1 team since 1981. True. But how many #1 teams did Wisconsin face in that time? Michigan in 1997, Ohio State in 2002, and probably one or two others, tops. We didn't play Penn State in 1994 and Ohio State was about #3 when we beat them in 2003, even though they hadn't lost since 2001. It's not like you face a #1 team every season and, of course, you're usually not going to win because they're good.
  14. O/U 57 total points I'd take the under as both defenses will be the best either school has seen so far this season. 57 is a lot of points with two decent defenses on the field, no matter how gaudy the YTD offensive point totals have been. O/U - touches for little used soph UW WR, Manasseh Garner - 2. Might go with the over. He's coming off hernia surgury in August and might be UW's secret weapon.
  15. You've got all your talented players back for the first time this season. Scheme - schmeme. Just play well.
  16. Cheese - of course. Porn? Maybe. I haven't seen it advertized along the highways in Wisconsin, but I suppose so. Used to be a nice breakfast place in Madtown - Smut and eggs. Get your day started right. Firecrackers? I doubt it unless the law has changed. You see signs for fireworks in Ohio and Indiana. I don't recall seeing them in Illinois or Wisconsin. I believe the contract with Oregon State was done in 2007 when they were a decent, if not great Pac10 team. NIU has a lot of Wisconsin kids playing for them. They usually play tough in that game and it was a quasi home game for them. They'd played an OT game against Kansas. It was the only NC game this season that mildly impressed me for Wisconsin. Playing a Division 1AA team every year is just plain embarassing. And having a creampuff NC schedule is an invitation to lose the first conference game of the year, every year.
  17. Exactly. In this type of game a 10 point spread really seems like too much so maybe shocking Las Vegas would be a more accurate statement. I'll be surprised if this isn't a fourth quarter game.
  18. That, plus $2.25 will get you a ride on the subway. It's worth nothing. The hype on this game is interesting. Back in 1993 there was little excitment about Penn State entering the league. I had to look up who they played first. I do remember watching their game against Michigan a week or two later. I was in an airport lounge waiting for a flight. I didn't particularily care who won that game. PSU did OK in 1993 and won the league with a great team in 1994. BTW, PSU played Illinois to open their 1993 Big Ten season. Edit - Just looked it up again and it was Minnesota. First game of the season and an easy win for them. They went 6-2 in the conference that year.
  19. If Nebraska wins the West and Illinois the East, the two teams could meet up in the Big Ten championship game. Illinois has a far easier schedule than Wisconsin and hosts Wisconsin in the game this year. Right now it looks like Nebraska has to be the Western Division favorite. Michigan is the only other undefeated team, and by the time you play them, Robinson will be dinged, slowing their offense, Their defense is at least a year away from being effective. Iowa and Northwestern often play stronger late in November than they do in September. They could be stumbling blocks, but I kinda doubt it.
  20. Wisconsin fans (and no doubt the coaches) can see many flaws. One of our starting cornerbacks has been lost for the season, for example. Another is that our special teams have been only so-so for several years now. Another is that the linebacking corps is very thin. Starting offensive right tackle was hurt this week. He had gimpy knees to start with. No proven third wide receiver yet, and neither of the first two has blazing speed. No second pass catching tight end. Jacob Pedersen has been pretty good so far, but we're accustomed to having two proven guys. No second one in sight. Huge drop off if Wilson gets hurt. Still no interceptions and very few sacks on defense. Can't win big games that way. I could go on.
