QB starter won't be named until fall

he was promised, make no mistake about that, his dad knows cally well and he is a proven commodity, unlike Beck or Freeman. like i said, done deal unless something really odd happens.

Gimme a break. Promised? This coaching staff has really never promised anything to anyone, be it right or wrong. Why would they start now? Not to mention that Keller himself said he has to earn it. If you aren't going to take people at their word, then you can't believe a word anyone says, ever.

You must have forgot that Callahan promised Beck that he would be the only qb in that recruiting class and that Callahan had to get Beck's permission (so-to-speak) to give Taylor a scholarship.

 

It is also well known that Lucky and Bowman were promised starting jobs whether you want to believe it or not. Why do you think that both considered leaving this year after very average careers to date?

My recollection of the Beck situation is that it was Beck who said he was told he would be the only QB in the class--and I believe it was HS QB at that. Sort of interesting that Beck bolts when he doesn't get the starting job making me (at least) wonder if he couldn't handle having to earn the position.

 

I don't see the connection between Lucky and Bowman allegedly being promised a starting job and leaving after an average year. If anything having an average year would tell the kid he needs to work harder. Again, thinking about going somewhere else makes me wonder about being willing to compete. Things aren't going to get any easier for a kid at the next level if they don't want to face competition at this one.

 

Disagree with the "intelligence" statement. While I don't question someone's intelligence who looks at things and believed Keller was promised a position, I conclude there is less evidence to believe that than to believe he was not. Concluding Keller was promised the job requires more speculation than concluding he wasn't. I think Keller WINS the position so we all end up in the same place.

He was saying how he felt really good at how the practice went and it was up tempo and very professional. He said he thought he did decent but has a long way to go and he is going to go watch film right after practice then be back to watch film at 630 a.m. He also said he spent two hours last night reading and learning the plays. This guy is a leader and a gym rat. He talked about how Lucky, Glenn, and Mendoza all looked good and how we have really good players at every position now its his responsibility to get them the ball. This guy has confidence on top of confidence (not cocky) This guy IMO is going to be all big 12 and mentioned among the heisman candidates.

The key words in your post, for me, are "speculate" and "I think Cally said". That is a far cry, IMO, from being certain Keller was promised a starting spot. It wouldn't be hard for Keller (or his father) to look at our situation and think he has an excellent chance of playing. On top of that the history between Callahan and Keller's father would probably mean he would trust Callahan to do what's best for his son. You're entitled to your inferences just as everyone else is. Not sharing your inference isn't a measure of someone's intelligence.

I was looking for any clips online but only found some High School highlights..Back when everyone thought he was fer sure going to Michigan.

Just because something isn't published does not mean that it is not true. This AD doesn't let out any information and these guys will give the typical coachspeak/playerspeak. These kids are promised things everyday. I have heard many NU fans say that Stoops promises stuff to recruits and I'm sure like almost every coach, he does. I apologize. I certainly meant promised starting spots, not promised anything in general. After all, that's what the topic is about. You are right, it's well known that Beck was promised he'd be the only QB. Obviously something changed in the staffs recruiting strategy that necessitated Taylors recruitment. Would you rather have the staff hang themselves on their own promises so that maybe, I don't know, another coach would come in? That'd be dandy wouldn't it? The staff recognized they made a promise, so they owed it to Beck to ask. And really, what was Beck going to say? No? Probably not in a million years.

 

Yes, just because it isn't published doesn't mean it's not true. But just because it isn't published doesn't mean it is true. I am sure kids get promised things all the time by other coaches and as long as we are talking about hear say, we could go on for light years. But promised starting spots is another thing. If kids had been promised starting spots, kids like Lucky, Culbert, Jackson, etc would have been starting their freshman year.

 

Now if Sam get's the starting position does that mean "See it was promised to him!!"? No certainly not. I would expect he'd be the starter. If Ganz wasn't able to take over Taylor in Taylor's first year, I'd think that he couldn't take over an as talented or quite possibly more talented Keller.
