COSGROVE

Well, I personally think that we should package this thread and send it to the coaches office. I mean, there is so much information here that a coach that has been coaching for longer than some of us have been alive could use.

I am sure it would be quite the eye opener and something he has never heard of before. Ever. :thumbs

well Dave, by now as a MOD you should be used to reading these comments. after all, the board is about opinions and thoughts like those through out this thread and are typical and OK. it is OK for the fans to sound off on this issue as well as others. let's face it, coz is not a well proven commodity at this point and the jury is still out on him and his methods.

Grixby has no excuse for playing...Bowman should relegate some of this if healthy, but Grixby is too slow, too short, too anything to compete at the Big 12 level.

It's pretty sad when you can predict the moment he is going to be throttled and put Nebraska in a hole. Happens way too often. :hmmph

Grixby couldnt cover a practice dummy

So you don't like Coz or Grixby, got it.

its not so much not liking him, its the "this is what works" and "this is what you are doing" thing. we go from a lumbering Defense "read and react" (McDufus) to a lights out attack speed D (K.Steele) back to the lumbering read and react D (Coz).........the read and react thing is dying. we lead the country in sacks one year and cant buy one the next with more exp players? 300lb strong side defensive end (Carriker) that alone was a major mis use of talent. just think of Carriker playing NT last year and B.Turner getting a whole season of starting snaps? just that decision alone...1 player made a huge impact on how other OCs attacked our D. Carriker will never play a down at defensive end in the PROs. B.Turner is an AWESOME football player. a real play maker! sat the bench last year while Carriker fell 1 or 2 steps short of a sack. and no offense to Adam he is nails and i wish him all the best in the pros(wish he went to the Broncos) but man, this isnt UNO we dont have time for a guy with TONS of stroke to figure it out by himself. Chiznik laffs at the stuff Coz does.....hes at Iowa state now he wiil pick apart cosgroves D with division 2 players. we are NEBRASKA where the BLACKSHIRTS win championships. this isnt defense 101 for K. Cosgrove. when he was at Wisconson he mannaged to lose one huge game every year...can u say "CHOKE" that prevent D crap he ran last year?????? go look at film, embarrrraaaasssssing!

Having a weak corner trickles through your whole defense and makes you compensate for them. Hence the conservative D.

not really...thats when you need to apply more preassure and force the issue, playing conservative feeds into the opposing teams game plan.

Well this is just a matter of opinion then cause I think that blitzing the LBs to apply more pressure and force the issue is a high risk, high reward scheme, nothing wrong with that, but when you have a huge hole at corner the risk for giving up six becomes to high and its not worth it any more. I'm not saying I'm a huge Cos fan, just speaking to stratagies.

Case in point: in the OU game, we blitz a LB, the safeties don't stay deep enough (I think they may have bit on a play fake but not sure), and Grixby gets beat deep. Blitzing is only effective when the coverage holds and the pressure can get there.

If he makes a big play for the TD in 1.7 seconds or the first down in 3.1 seconds, which is better? There's no silver bullet for which D always works.

The only reason he would be on the hot seat is because a certain faction of fans are putting him on that hot seat. Steve P is not putting him on the hot seat at all!!!!

the D only gave up 305 yard verses OU, that aint half bad. I would take that for a average every game. The days of giving up 250 a game are over. Mcbride is gone, so is the ballsy blitzing.

The embarrassing part was OU throwing at Grixby for about 5 plays in a row. They knew the weak spot. The D as a whole played well, but there is no mistaking the weak spots.

Mc Boofoo never did anything @ NU....all our success in the 90s was K.Steele design.
