huskerjack23
it's just, nothing against meno holt, but i always think of Brook when i see that number. i think that it should have a special place in nebraska history forever, be it the thing i mentioned or having it retired permanently. Ohio Pete
Runzas! Couldn't get through those cold OU games without a couple of Runzas in your pocket. I guess they don't have Mad Mike anymore, but doing the wave (he taught us how) at inappropriate times could be listed. Oh and of course "Down in front!" Quote Link to comment
Landlord
I forgot to put Runza's, Valentino's and Der Vingerschlinger (spelling?) Quote Link to comment

SOCALHUSKER
And speaking of retired jerseys, here's the list. Nebraska's Retired Jerseys Anyone know why jerseys that are retired are still being worn? Quote Link to comment
caveman99
And speaking of retired jerseys, here's the list. Nebraska's Retired Jerseys Anyone know why jerseys that are retired are still being worn? They are not permenantly retired, only 2 are Novak and Brown. The reason is that on a team of over 100 players, they can't afford to as you would have way too many players wearing the same numbers. So instead they honor those players by "retiring" the jersey and putting them up as such, but make the numbers still available. Quote Link to comment

And the reason just these two - it was the team that voted to retire the jersey. So their NUMBER is retired. The all-Americans and Heisman winners have their JERSEY retired. Quote Link to comment
