Gabbert still solid

Recommended Posts

We need a new OC. It's horrible when our offense is so pathetic that recruits are scared to play for him.

idk where this comment came from. it appears gabbert likes watson. dare i say that if watson leaves, so too goes gabbert?

I'm saying that our offensive ineptitude (which falls squarely at Watson's feet) cost us Carter already and I fully expect Gabbert to leave with him.

That said, I will trade a couple Gabbert/Carter decommits for a new OC any day of the week.

you and me both........

i dont know what to think about TG but i think some poeple are putting too much into the CC and TG connection... i dont think TG is just gonna pick up nd leave because CC says so... so they sat together at the game and talked.... i dont know if they are funking BFF's for life.... i think its cut throat and recruits i imagie bullshiet with a lot of other recruits.... whether this develops into a true friend is not a given unless both players end up at the same school... kids will do whats best for them.......

i think gabbert stays.....

Watson doesn't have much this season. That's why you see the shift in philosophy, limiting the offense to minimize mistakes, and not trying to light the field on fire with points and yards, but to consistently keep our team in a position to put away the game.

It's how we won against Oklahoma and how we almost won against Texas, two teams that, let's face it, we had no business beating even at the beginning of the year when everyone was optimistic, and certainly no business beating after we found out what we had on O this year. If we adopt that strategy against Iowa State, no question we come out with a safe win. Texas Tech likely as well.

ding ding ding. our offense was crap this season, but there's a reason we pretty much shut down the passing game and that approach damn near won us the big 12 in a year no one expected it. hopefully we'll see better play and health on that side of the ball next year.

if players can't see through the recruiting pitches to the fact our team is coached by winners that will find a way to push us to the top, style points be damned, then who needs them. it also wouldn't hurt if they understood that we had a great year on offense last year and a myriad of personnel issues this year, but i mostly want kids that focus on the wins. i think the coaches agree with that, based upon their attempt to get kids from winning high school programs.

Big Willie, I think that smell is a freakin snake that strung NU along with Carter to make them think they are going to NU when they planned on goin to MU the entire time just to screw us. I hope I'm wrong and Gabbert ends up wearing the N but that's been the feeling I've had for about 2 months now and I still have it.

Gabbert's whole connection with Nebraska was through Watson. With Wats position being tenuous at best, I don't see Tyler coming to Lincoln. While we are all guessing, I think that Tyler has heard over and over that Pelini is a defensive specialist and that his teams will be known for great D. That's great. But then when you see a coach (rightfully with our personell) play as conservative in the CCG and get 106 yards TOTAL (kinda silly for us to talk just about how we shut down Texas-when they got twice the yardage we did) and you are a QB that wants a wide open offense that throws the rock; you might not be impressed.

The Huskers have to decide what kind of offense they want to run. I think Pelini would be much more satisfied with the option that Johnson at Ga. Tech uses. It suits Bo's temperment much better I think. Otherwise he is going to be in the face of the OC or QB everytime there is a incompletion or interception. If that is the case, then wide outs like Green and QBs like Tyler G are not going to come to Nebraska.

I think if they make up their mind what they want to do first and all get on the same page, I see something of a Carl and Bo making the OC the odd man out developing and together they don't likely know a whole h*ll of a lot about how to develope an offense that will compete. Decide what they want and get it going and then recruit to fill that scheme.

How could a kid possibly believe we know what we are going to run or offense or who is going to be the coach running it after this year. And if you don't know that; would you want to come here?

Does anyone know if we are still getting an in home visit at least? I hope to God we do bc maybe then Bo can go in and make up for Gilmore's dumb ass and actually explain that we do pass the ball a lot when we have the players in place and he could be that player.

what is to make up for? what did gilmore do wrong? i'm pretty sure it was mentioned at some point that we already explained exactly how carter would be used in our offense. his stated problem with this is that he didn't see it on the field. if the kid doesn't have the foresight to comprehend that the offensive strategy we employed towards the end of the year was a stop-gap measure, then there's not much we can do about it. obviously this distinction is flying over the heads of many of our fans as well, so i guess we shouldn't be too surprised that recruits are falling for it.

It happens all the time when coaches have in home visits to shore up some doubt. It happened with Castille just a couple years ago when he was thinking about going to Louisville. We already sat down with him on his official and explained to him how we would use him and the fact that we changed o's in the middle of the season has him thinking that we won't throw the ball anymore, and that's simply not true. It's not flying over my head, what I'm saying is that a lot of times when the head coach and o coordinator explain something in person it eases the recruits mind. Not just a position coach sayin it over the phone. I guess I think Gilmore went wrong bc he should have tried to hold off on explaining anything in depth to him until on his in home visit. Say something to ease his mind then tell him the staff will explain it in more detail during his in home.

so...gilmore shouldn't have explained anything and just told him to hold out for the in home visit? what makes you think he didn't tell him we'd explain it more in person? all we really know is that this kid has been swayed by other recruiters, that he apparently has already had it explained how we'd use him and that gilmore clarified the definition of being committed. i'm failing to see how you can assume gilmore screwed this up.

Yes in a way I think he should have sold him on the idea of just staying committed until his in home, which probably was in a few days. I obviously don't know exactly what he told Carter, but it's obvious he didn't do good enough at selling him on having an in home visit.

your definition of 'obvious' must be different than mine. apparently the word 'committed' as well.

You mean the word "obvious" as in obviously he didnt do a good enough job at selling him to have his in home? Do we still have an in home visit with him? Maybe committed does mean something different, but as long as he is willing to say he is still committed but is a little worried he is more prone to being swayed to not take those visits w an in home IMO.

did we still want an in home visit with him? did gilmore face an impossible task and fail despite an outstanding sales job? i'm not sure you have the answers to either of those, so, no, i don't think it's 'obvious' that gilmore didn't do a good enough job.

Well I guess to me it is "obvious" bc either you get the in home or you don't. You succeed or you fail. To me, it's as easy as that. This wasn't a kid that we just got in on, he was committed for a while and very interested for several months so I would think he'd be pretty willing to let the coaches come over for an hour or two to explain his worries. Do you know any of what was said by either side for a fact?

nope, the only thing we have is what this kid is telling people, which is why i questioned your use of the word...
