Nexus
Here we go again.... Kansas offensive coordinator Chuck Long, a former head coach at San Diego State, has been sued by Nick Sandford, a former player. Sandford accuses Long of covering up an alleged assault by a teammate in November 2008 that left Sandford with injuries, according to a civil lawsuit filed this week in San Diego Superior Court. The suit alleges that former San Diego State offensive lineman Lance Louis, now with the Chicago Bears, assaulted Sandford, a safety, in a team meeting room. The attack left Sandford with a concussion, a ruptured eardrum and facial injuries. Sandford is asking for unspecified damages from Long, Louis and the California State University system. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Louis faces a misdemeanor assault charge related to the incident. Sandford's suit alleges that Long instructed San Diego State staff members "not to report the attack to law enforcement or university officials." The incident happened on Nov. 5 and was not reported to campus police until Nov. 20. Sandford's suit alleges that Long thought San Diego State "had a better chance to be successful if defendant Louis was allowed to play, thus motivating defendant Long to cover up the attack." Long refused comment on the lawsuit through Kansas officials on Wednesday. LINK Quote Link to comment

NUance
Sandford’s suit alleges that Long instructed San Diego State staff members “not to report the attack to law enforcement or university officials.” The incident happened on Nov. 5 and was not reported to campus police until Nov. 20. So this guy is saying that when two guys get in a fight the coaching staff is supposed to call the cops? What a bunch of baloney. If that was the case NU would have had to install an LPD branch office in North Stadium just to handle the Richie Incognito calls. 1 Quote Link to comment

The law must be involved if injuries could reasonably deemed to be serious. A concussion, even if it is only alleged, would be serious. Quote Link to comment
Fuzzy
Very true, but i don't see why they put Turner Gil's name in this... Quote Link to comment
sarge87
Very true, but i don't see why they put Turner Gil's name in this... ....Because it is partly a "hit" piece against the KU program and the squeaky clean Gill. Fact is, the Kansas area sportswriters and fans didn't exactly roll out the red carpet when he was hired. My question is --- Did Chuck Long tell Turner something like this was going to come up during the interview process for OC? Right now, CFB coaches are being tried in the court of public opinion when it comes to their treatment of players, especially after the Leach and Leavitt firings. Quote Link to comment
