2011 Uniform Tweak?

Recommended Posts

If I had it my way, we would go back to my avatar, 2001, best uniforms ever. Everything was lined up perfectly.

10 year anniversary throwbacks too. ;)

Adidas logo high right, Nebraska patch high left, and the word 'Nebraska' on top of the numbers, no stripes on the pants, high red socks for home and high white socks for the road, black shoes and laces. The cleanest uniform ever, and it still somewhat set us apart from everyone else. Loved that look.

Not seeing the numbers on the side, or even the shoulder pads, I think is missing a lot.

Now that we will be seeing Wisconsin a lot, is just another reason why to go back to the stripe-less pants.

We will know who our team will be when we are playing them, for obvious home/away reasons and the fact that we will be making more plays than them. ;)

On a more serious note, I have noticed that Wisconsin looks almost identical to us and it's really annoying.

They have their 'W' in the same spot as our Nebraska patch.

They have the double stripe pants, just like us.

They have a one letter logo on their helmet, just like us.

However, their helmet has two stripes while we have a solid, and their logo on their helmet is a block logo as opposed to our simple 'N'.

They also wear all-whites on the road, but in the 2011 Rose Bowl game, they wore red pants with their white top and looked very similar to us.

Hence them being the one of the reasons why we should go back to our 2001 look.

I absolutely fell in love with that look, especially the high red socks. I remember reading an interview with the equipment manager, he said he tried to bring back the red socks during Bo's first year, but the players were quickly to dismiss that idea. So unless somebody can convince the players about the red socks, it will be mid high black socks forever, not saying its bad, its just that EVERYBODY is doing it.

thats why our players want to do it, because its the style right now. i agree with you the solid pants with tall socks looks really slick but its not "in" right now. but look on the bright side, at least we havent completely sold out and we still look fairly traditional. i would hate to think what we would look lke if we wore nike unis and nike did some crazy pattern like they have with oregon. it just wouldnt fit NU

Sounds like the "little things like that" are left up to the Unity Council.

And yes, little differences like that do matter, because our uniform is still classic, nothing outlandish, and yet it is different from the rest. You are correct, everyone else does the same thing. For Michigan games, when it gets cold enough, they wear the tall navy blue socks. It looks great on them too. I hope someday we return to the style I mentioned.

Yes, I am a uniform nerd. :koolaid2::ahhhhhhhh

I have come across it, I think it was linked here too, funny how that works like most links. :)

It is interesting to see subtle or minimal changes to teams year to year. You wouldn't think so, but there are a lot of small things that teams change and it ends up being a big list after a while.

I just hope we never, ever, ever, go the route of Oregon or anything crazy like that. Nike does do some traditional uniforms, but most of the teams that do the crazy things want to get attention and publicity, and that is fine for them, they have to get someone talking about them somehow, Marketing 101. If you can't sell tradition or award winners or National Titles, do something that you can make an immediate impact on, ie, crazy uniforms.

But I think that is Oregon's thing. Good for them. Nothing wrong with what they do at all. I am intrigued to see what kind of things they can do year in and year out, considering Nike is in their backyard.

Just keep it away from us. :)

Alabama comes to mind as a Nike school that's managed to maintain a classic look. I actually like some of what Oregon has; the problem is, for every one or two uniforms that are sweet, there are two dozen that blow.

Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio State as well.

Please no high socks. They just don't look tough, and worse yet, you always saw see the players pulling them up after every play. They need to be thinking about the next play and not pulling up their socks to look nice.

To add even more talk, I have heard from a representative of the UNL athletics store across west Memorial stadium, that it is a major possibility the Huskers will be sporting commemorative B1G patches on the right shoulder of the jersey, opposite of the Husker tradition emblem on the left shoulder.

I wish we'd wear all white again. I loved it back in 07.

Stripe-less pants weren't too bad either. Bring them back as an alternate for look-alike games against Wisconsin.

I loved the all-whites as well, but I liked them more for the red/white trim gear and the long socks, if they would get rid of the black shoes and socks with the current unis i would love them.
