huskersrule95
Fitzgerald Toussaint suspended Updated: July 23, 2012, 3:05 PM ETBy Chantel Jennings | WovlerineNation SALINE, Mich. -- Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint has been suspended indefinitely from the football team after being arrested for a DUI charge on Saturday evening. Toussaint, a redshirt junior, ran for 1,041 yards and nine touchdowns on 187 carries as Michigan's starting running back in 2011. The total was second on the team behind quarterback Denard Robinson. "Fitz made a poor decision and has been suspended indefinitely because of that action," coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. "There are expectations that come with being a football student-athlete at the University of Michigan and those responsibilities were not met in this instance. We will use this as an opportunity to educate Fitz and make sure he understands the high standards that we have established within our program." Saline (Mich.) Police Chief Larry Hrinik confirmed Toussaint's arrest. He said that at the time of the arrest Toussaint's blood alcohol level was .12. Michigan's legal limit is .08. Hrinik explained that the Saline police officers were working a high-visibility enforcement in Ann Arbor Saturday evening when they witnessed Toussaint go through a red light at the intersection of Forest and Washtenaw. "The officers could smell intoxicants on his breath," Hrinik said. "They had him take a PBT and ended up arresting him and brought him back here to process him." Toussaint was taken into custody Saturday evening and released early Sunday morning on bond. His court date has yet to be determined and the police report didn't specify to whom Toussaint was released. Toussaint was driving a white Ford 150. The police report didn't indicate that anyone else was in the vehicle with Toussaint at the time of the arrest. "It was a cut and dry report," Hrinik said. "The nice thing is that he was very cooperative." huskersrule95
He probably wont miss that many games but Michigan doesn't open season with a cupcake where a suspension wouldnt make a difference. Michigans opens the season against Alabama so he would be a big loss to Michigan if he is suspended. Quote Link to comment
Excel
What a shame but at least Hoke is doing the right thing about it. It'd be nice to go a week without something bad happening in the Big Ten. Football needs to start already. Quote Link to comment

Mich's chances against bama weren't that good to begin with, losing Toussaint makes them rather slim. Quote Link to comment
VectorVictor
I could see Toussaint being allowed to play against Alabama, but then being suspended up to, say, September 20th, when they play Michigan State, or the 27th, when they travel to Lincoln. That way, Hoke can have his cake and eat it too--his team is competitive for the important non-con games (sans Notre Dame)...but he looks like he's a disciplinarian. Quote Link to comment
BlueInTheFace
He won't play against Bama and shouldn't. God damn idiot. The worst part is that with a DUI you aren't only endangering yourself, you're endangering other people. Quote Link to comment
mrandyk
He should be off the team. I hope some Penn State style sanctions come down on Michigan for letting him play. Winning at all costs is not to be tolerated, the NCAA just made that very clear. Quote Link to comment

How much do you want to bet that, between now and the end of the season, Toussaint is allowed to preform some rite of contrition that Hoke deems satisfactory, and he plays against 'Bama during the opener? This 'Bama game is big for Michigan. Too damn big. --- And yes, I agree with your views on DUI. Stupid, stupid thing to do--but remember, we don't have all the facts. IIRC, even Nebraska had a case of DUI where the kid was busted in the passenger seat, passed out drunk, and was cited because the car was left running due to the cold weather. Not saying this is similar--I don't know. But I don't see where all of the details have come out, either? Quote Link to comment
BlueInTheFace
I think he'll miss the first 3-4 games of the season at the very least. Including the Bama game. Our odds in that game just got a little bit slimmer... Quote Link to comment

Michigan's motto for the Alabama game, "Win one for the Big Ten." http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/19671561/michigans-motto-for-opener-opposite-alabama-win-one-for-the-big-ten We certainly do need a good showing. Unfortunately we may need to invest our hopes in the MSU Boise game. I don't see UM winning this one, even with Toussaint. Quote Link to comment

KJ.
Not trying to start a troll here, but did all the Husker fans with the "yeah he needs to be suspended for a few games" attitude feel the same way when this was Niles Paul or Baker Steinkuhler? Quote Link to comment
